Is there such a thing as an edgy waterproof coat

I'm looking for something properly waterproof with taped seams, not a boring colour, not North Face or didriksons or anything from GO Outdoors. Rains jackets look ok but I think they could be sweaty and I'm not sure how I feel about that rubberised material. Budget of £200. If you can help me I will give you a big fat snog.

I have an Aigle long parka style waterproof from some years ago, very similar to the Arket parka but properly technical. Can't see it on their site and I don't think they are trying to be an edgy brand but might be worth a look.

Also Hunter do waterproof coats, they have a sale on at the moment with lots half price. I wouldn't touch their wellies with a wet barge pole any more, but the coat style at least look a bit trendier than the usual offerings.

Just saw your last NAP link, you might like Hunter then, they have a rubberised coat in lots of bright colours for half the price of that one.

The Stutterheim coats look just like the Joules and Seasalt ones.
The green one you really like is similar to the ones that were being sold everywhere in late August/September. Quite often unsold stock is out on eBay, you could try searching on eBay for generic 'rubber rain mac'
Bit if you really love it maybe you should just go for it or you'll be thinking about it forever 😁

RiddleyW · 07/11/2018 08:44

The protected species mac is fantastically practical. Keeps me completely dry in driving rain. I agree on the colours though. If they did some nice bright colours I’d declare it the perfect coat.

Have a look at the Swedish brand - Fjallraven, same as do the trendy backpacks. Their jackets are brilliant! Warm, waterproof and light and can also be machine washed.

Love this one

Its all about Patagonia, they are pricey but you might have luck on ebay. I also have a cool Berghaus one from their factory shop.

I bought the Ilse Jacobsen raincoat 71. It's edgy, beautifully cut in a flattering slightly A line shape and has a detachable hood with a cute little strap. I bought it on impulse, wore it once and have realised the colour (khaki) does nothing for me weeps 🙁

Protected Species fan here.

Protected species coats are amazing. The rust colour is lovely.

TheChineseChicken · 07/11/2018 13:54

Why did I click on this thread? Now I want a Hunter bomber jacket for £285 Hmm

CremeDeSudo · 07/11/2018 20:06

@TheChineseChicken me too! Been meaning to replace my Trespass Parka for a while and now have my eye on Hunter! Just wondering how warm they are..

TheChineseChicken · 07/11/2018 20:14

It looks pretty toasty so I think you should definitely buy it Grin

I am going to be naughty and order it tonight

Veterinari · 07/11/2018 23:19

Lighthouse do colourful rain coats but also a beautiful waterproof caped trench which might suit. 15% off with MN code too

GenericHamster · 07/11/2018 23:20

Danefae? I’ve bought direct from there before if you can’t find a UK seller of any you like

CremeDeSudo · 14/11/2018 08:45

How did you get on op? I ordered one from ASOS but it's shapeless and does nothing for me. I think I'm after something similar to you, but needs to be warm too!

TheTeaFairy · 27/11/2018 09:35

Drizzly bump Smile

CremeDeSudo · 27/11/2018 10:15

Hammering down bump!

I've found a nice one in Fat face but it's another green parka and wanted something different this time!

TheTeaFairy · 27/11/2018 14:07

Agreed, @CremeDeSudo!

The hunt continues. Very damp now (Puffa + umbrella = no match for UK rain ☔️

CremeDeSudo · 27/11/2018 18:38

I'm now considering a Helly Hansen Thermal Waterproof Trench coat..but they're only in black or khaki. Yawn. I think that's the main contender now..although I do wonder if I'll miss my parka when I chuck it and end up getting another anyway!

CremeDeSudo · 28/11/2018 07:42

Right I've ordered the Trench Coat. Watch me hate it after I've taken so long to order something!

tierraJ · 28/11/2018 11:35

My sister has a Hunter rain coat it looks very fashionable & obviously keeps the rain out well

CremeDeSudo · 28/11/2018 12:01

How warm is it? That was what put me off!

CharlotteBMumsnet · 28/11/2018 13:27

For anyone thinking about buying a Protected Species coat, you can nab 30% off with code MUMS30 - ends next Wednesday!

tierraJ · 28/11/2018 13:32

I don't think the Hunter coat is particularly warm for winter, it's water & wind proof but not warm.
