Here we go again!

Special edition: Eugenie wedding thread

Harry and Meghan have 2 days more in NZ before they head back to London and, if I was her, I'd put on pyjamas, get Netflix fired up, and not leave my bed for several days! William and Kate will be out for a sporty engagement in Essex tomorrow and I'm sure we'll start to see them more as she's now officially back from maternity leave..

No idea what the continental royals are up to but New My Royals (does that title even make sense?) is my go-to link for them!

I think that’s right Horsemad

LimpyLampy · 03/11/2018 10:57

When Kate wears Zara and everyone crushes to buy the same dress and jacket, they fail to remember that Kate’s alterations team have taken that Zara dress and lined it, custom altered it, sewn on the loosely sewn buttons and hemmed it. So when we marvel at Kate’s ability to pull off a cheap Zara dress, we fail to acknowledge we are looking at an almost entirely different dress to the one we pick off the peg!

That said, with the increasingly bad publicity being given to fast fashion and it’s impact on the environment, she doesn’t seem to be wearing so much of it now......

Releasing photos of the past seems to be something the RF do. Perhaps it is to throw a few photos to the public so they can continue without so much emphasis on their day to day lives.....?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/11/2018 11:00

I don't think Meghan is anything like Fergie. She is infinitely more sophisticated.
However the press; DM if you will, love to compare them. Kate is firmly in the archetypal Duchess slot; but she was slated for "many" years. (Waity Katie; the Wisteria Sisters (Kate & Pippa in Tatler) etc.)

Meghan is very tough; but her strong ideas & character (hence the Di2 reference ) will not endear her to.the old guard; if there is anyone left...

owlshooting · 03/11/2018 11:04

I think M is confused in her dressing. I think she is used to L.A. and the way actors behave and dress for publicity, and is trying to reorientate to how the Royal Family are expected to dress, which is entirely different.

Spending too much/flash labels/ showing too much flesh/being appropriate are all things she is struggling to understand I think. Kate is familiar with all of that, she has a mother who was brought up to be frugal, plus she isn't particularly into clothes for their own sake I think.

Plus the norms in this country are different from the US, i.e. when to wear hats , the need to wear tights, etc.

frugalkitty · 03/11/2018 11:05

When Fergie was expecting Eugenie and people were placing bets on the name, I remember only one person got it right. Queen Victoria's Beatrice has a daughter called Eugenie (I think) and Fergie was a bit obsessed with QV at the time. Chap must have made a fair few quid.

LimpyLampy · 03/11/2018 11:06

The DM is shite, the comments are clearly written by uneducated, racist, bigoted people. The DM write (and I use that term very loosely) for that audience. MM is nothing like Fergie. These people love to hate. They must always have a villain.

missclimpson · 03/11/2018 11:18

Yes that's right frugalkitty. Quenn Victoria also had a daughter Helena. Princess Beatrice's daughter was named after the Empress Eugénie and married the King of Spain. She was known as Ena.

missclimpson · 03/11/2018 11:19

Queen not Quenn 😊

missclimpson · 03/11/2018 11:30

The Victorian Beatrice and Eugenie both carried the haemophilia gene which passed into the Spanish royal family (though not to the current descendants).

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/11/2018 11:31

@Want2bSupermum No I meant a U.K. 8, as in a J Crew 4!

Want2bSupermum · 03/11/2018 11:41

queen I'm not a fan of j crew. I find it's terrible quality for the price. Everyone gushes over it saying it's affordable designer. No it's not. It's expensive H&M.

DH got me a lovely coat but it went back when I checked the credit card and it was $395. It was exactly the same quality wise as the H&M coat for $125. It went back.

Their suits are awful. I don't know who they are cut for!

SenecaFalls · 03/11/2018 11:49

Princess Beatrice's daughter was named after the Empress Eugénie and married the King of Spain. She was known as Ena.

And with the Spanish naming convention of honoring the mother's name that Queen mentioned above, their children had the surname de Borbon y Battenberg.

For anyone who enjoys the terrible pems of McGonagall, this is a real gem.

Poems (bad stylus day 😊).

AhoyDelBoy · 03/11/2018 11:54

I think she is used to L.A. and the way actors behave and dress for publicity

I thought this in their engagement announcement when she is wearing the white coat. The way she was standing side on to Harry with her back kind of arched looked awful and not very Royal at all IMO.

AhoyDelBoy · 03/11/2018 11:55

LimpyLampy good point about Kate’s Zara clothes, I never even thought of that.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/11/2018 12:40

@Want2bSupermum I'm not either, was just passing one day and randomly spotted a dress I liked in the window. It's very overpriced for what it is.

The reality is that DofS was never A list. On the rare occasions she did the red carpet she wasn't the focal point actor and designers didn't want to dress her. She wasn't even on the list to be Z list.

This isn't a criticism, just a reality of her background. Also, this rubbish of her having money, agents take a lot of the money and she was paying for everything. Ironically the actors who are more successful pay for less. DofS would have been paying for her apartment in Toronto herself, which btw is significantly cheaper than rentals in LA or NYC. My brother has bought a place in toronto and i was shocked at how cheap it was. It would get you an old studio the size of a box room here in NYC.

I think she did well on her first tour but her lack of experience of dealing with publicity showed.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/11/2018 13:33

Thanks for that, missclimpson, matchless.

frugalkitty · 03/11/2018 13:54

I always fancied getting married at Whippingham, but you have to have lived in the IOW for three weeks prior to the wedding which wasn't practical!

missclimpson · 03/11/2018 14:35

DonkeysDontRideBicycles I especially like the way he rhymes nice and Beatrice. 😀

PinguDance · 03/11/2018 15:34

I used to work somewhere with various offices and once an ambiguously addressed Christmas card arrived on our office desk which I opened - it was from ‘the yorks’, all of them including Fergie. It had pictures of them all on holiday etc. It wasn’t for us as we had nothing to do with them but someone in the building obviously did! Never worked out who. Anyway they defo do stuff as a family judging by that - it was about 3 years ago.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 03/11/2018 15:36

I had family who lived in Whippingham. It's lovely.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 03/11/2018 15:40

That’s interesting Pingu

Paradyning · 03/11/2018 16:59

Bea's dress was Gucci!
