Let me see if I've figured out how to post a link properly...

Ooh, I think that worked.

What you all thinking? I'm intrigued but I'm not sure the results will be as sleek as I'd hope...

It does look good, and I absolutely love my Dyson Supersonic, but I don’t think I could listen to that racket for the whole time it would take for me to either curl or straighten my voluminous mane. I like the relative quiet of my straighteners for now!

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 22/10/2018 22:48

Ahh, I hadn't even considered the noise factor 🤔
I've never used the supersonic! I have the ghd aura, that cost me enough so I couldn't justify getting the dyson one as well 😢

You can buy the same thing from Argos for about £35. My mum has been using a similar one since the late ‘80s.

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 23/10/2018 01:48

So they've branched out into hair styling now!

Looks interesting

Fishfingersandwich3 · 23/10/2018 07:12

I have it! The technology is different to the old air stylers as the air flow is directed down the hair shaft so it clings to the attachment rather than blowing outwards, so you get a ‘blow dry’ effect. My hair was lovely and shiny and bouncy after using it... having said that it wasn’t quite the miracle worker I was hoping for the price! The jury’s still out!

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 23/10/2018 07:56

@Fishfingersandwich3 does the airflow not make it a bit... tangled?

OP posts:
Fishfingersandwich3 · 23/10/2018 08:00

No I actually find the opposite, instead of the flyaways going in all directions they all smooth down the same way. With the curling tool it looks like it’s ‘sucking’ the hair into the tool but it actually just smooths it around.

BiscuitDrama · 23/10/2018 08:06

How do you have it if it isn’t out till November?

This feels a bit like a dyson promotional thread!

VanCleefArpels · 23/10/2018 08:09

I’m in the Boots waiting list. 🎅🏻 will be sending it to me. In my dreams this will solve nearly 50 years of dissatisfaction with my hair 😂

Jimjamjooney · 23/10/2018 08:12

I really want to try it! Because of my hair type high temperatures can cause it to break. This uses low heat as it’s mostly the air pressure/ flow that dries your hair so this could be a game changer for me being able to smooth my hair first then curl (instead of blow drying, maybe running straighteners through, then curling)

Jimjamjooney · 23/10/2018 08:14

BiscuitDrama plenty of people bought it (then it went out of stock) 😭

It was released last week, I got it on the Dyson website but think it’s sold out now.

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 23/10/2018 09:28

I'd love one. But I'm terrible for buying all these gadgets and then never using them because I just don't have the time. If it's as simple as it looks then it would be great!
Such a lot of money though...

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 23/10/2018 09:30

@BiscuitDrama definitely not promotional! 😂 I'd never heard of it until my OH showed me a clip of it the other day (he's trying to figure out what to get me for Xmas... yes, I'm so difficult he has to start looking in October)

I have a Babyliss Big Hair - the one that everyone was raving about a few years ago. I could never get to grips with it, my hair always looked rubbish after I'd used it. But I do love my Dyson hair dryer, so curious as to whether this is any different.

Can anyone compare this to the Big Hair?

PurpleNailVarnish · 23/10/2018 09:56

I've got my eye on this, I watched the demonstrations at the product launch on YouTube and I was impressed.
YouTube link

Since then I've seen others trying it, including beauty professionals, and it looks like it doesn't pick the hair up as easily as is shown in the product demonstration. I'm not surprised by that, after all a product demonstration isn't going to say that it takes a bit of practice.

I'm waiting to see what the verdict is after it's been around for a while and people have been using it at home.

I'm hoping for a miracle, but it's £££ for something that's not any better than others on the market if that turns out to be the case.

PurpleNailVarnish · 23/10/2018 10:04

I've used the old BBH for years @QuantumWeatherButterfly and it works really well with my hair.

I was one of the people who tested the new BBH for MN, I thought I would love it like I did the last one but I was one of the very few testers who didn't get on with it 😬, it pulled my hair and didn't leave it smooth and shiny. As it was given to me I feel bad that I couldn't leave a more positive review but my DDs used it too, they have thicker hair than me and it worked a dream for them. So they'll be using it enthusiastically from now on.

That's why I'm hopeful about the new Dyson; I want a replacement for my old BBH.
I can't offer a comparison between the Dyson and the new BBH, maybe I'll try it when I'm in JL next.

PrimalLass · 23/10/2018 10:15

I can curl my hair but it just drops within an hour. Will this be better for holding the curl?

Fishfingersandwich3 · 23/10/2018 10:27

@PrimalLass from my limited testing so far, the curling tool only works well when you use wet hair and dry the curl with the tool, I tried drying my hair smooth first and then using the airwrap to curl and it didn’t hold the curl at all. So you only really get one chance as your hair is drying to get it right, unlike other heated styling tools.

PrimalLass · 23/10/2018 10:30

Thank you. I'm watching videos now. Should I just sell everything I have to get one???

PrimalLass · 23/10/2018 10:33

Of course I want one now Grin

Sosomego · 23/10/2018 10:40

I had a moment of madness and bought one the day they were released on the Dyson website. Like many PPs I've struggled for years with unruly frizzy hair and have used GHDs and the Babyliss big hair. Both worked for me but I worried about the damage they were doing to my hair and they were also time consuming. The Dyson is sooo much quicker and it's definitely not as hot as other stylers. The main advantage for me is the paddle brush attachment that drys and styles my hair at the same time. I timed myself the other day and it took 12 minutes from wet to nicely styled hair. It's also lovely and shiny and the effect lasts. I've only played with the curling attachment at the moment and it feels really simple and gentle to use. I've not tried it on wet hair yet but I imagine if you style from wet using styling products that the curls would hold.

For me it was a lot of money but there was an option to pay with PayPal 0% credit to spread the cost so that clinched it for me.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 23/10/2018 10:58

Thanks PurpleNailVarnish - that was my exact experience of the original BBH (though I didn't know there was a new one). It pulled my hair and grabbed it unevenly as I tried to position it, so constantly seemed to undo the work I was doing as I moved around with it - if that makes any sort of sense! I did wonder if I just have the wrong hair for it - very fine and flyaway.

I think I'll keep my eye on the air wrap for a few more reviews and some real-people usage videos. Good to know that there are already people that like it though.
