Girls' warm, properly waterproof winter coat ?

Looking for recommendations, title says it all! Budget ideally less than £40. Too many are just water-resistant repellent. Also needs to be warm enough to go below freezing ( Scotland!), so breathable would be lovely too, but less likely at that price. Oh, and not pink! Only contender so far is a yellow Sainsbury's ' boy's' coat, but hoping to get a more fitted style for 11 year old, although the colour is fine. Thanks! Already spent at least an hour looking, hoping someone already had the perfect one!

decathlon

Have a look at Lands End, I've just ordered a Squall jacket from them for my DD. Looks good quality proper winterproof. Introductory discount brings it down to just under £40.

Have a look at three in one jackets at Mountain Warehouse.

landsend

Ooh, thanks, hadn't looked at those places, will look tomorrow! I knew people would have better ideas than me!

Have a look at Amazon. I got a Trespass Tiffiny coat size 12/13 for about £20.
My dd has one for the last 2 years and has kept her warm and dry.

beachbodyunready · 22/10/2018 22:48

These are lovely and warm and I'm pretty sure they are waterproof, a good choice of colours as well.

Are there any school uniform shops near to you? I have been searching for a winter jacket that didn't have a bloody furry hood for weeks and finally spotted exactly what I was looking for in the window of an old fashioned school uniform shop. They can embroider the badge of the school but I didn't want them to. It cost £32.

You can sometimes get a Trespass bargain, but some of the kids jackets are VERY expensive - their three-in-one jackets are about £70. Had a look at Decathlon and the jackets were all strange colours that wouldn't go with DC's uniform.

Justgivemesomepeace · 22/10/2018 22:54

I get all my kids coats from decathlon or go outdoors. They are properly waterproof and the hoods stay up properly. Much better than supermarket/high street ones and are around £20-£30. Ds's this year was from the sailing section in decathlon and was £20.

mytieisascarf · 22/10/2018 22:54

Don't think those Tiffy Tresspass jackets are waterproof.

AwdBovril · 22/10/2018 22:57

Mountain Warehouse. The 3 in 1 coats have been our go-to for the last few years, we always buy when they have the sale on.

tumpymummy · 22/10/2018 22:59

What about a jacket from uniqlo? My kids like those for school as they pack up small.

DoubleLottchen · 22/10/2018 23:02

Lands End currently have 40% of coats - you want Squall for warm and waterproof.
I always buy them for DC, they are brilliant, and have cords in the sleeve so you can extend the length and get an extra year out of them.

The Squall jacket is in your budget here

I usually get the squall coat, as it is longer and so a bit warmer here A bit over £40 but totally worth it imo. They are fab in rain and snow.

InflagranteDelicto · 22/10/2018 23:06

Decathlon. When I washed ds' the hood filled with water as it hung on the line. Sizes come up sightly smaller than UK sizing.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/10/2018 23:07

Says here that the tiffy one is waterproof - and only £19.99

Another vote for the Lands' End Squall. I have the adult version of the Squall coat (a bit longer than the jacket) and it's lasted me through three winters of dog walks and is still warm, waterproof and looking as good as ever. It washes very well but takes a while to dry because of the waterproofing - you have to dry the outside then turn it inside out to dry the inside.

LaLaLolly · 22/10/2018 23:12

My DC wear Didrikson (you can find them around the top end of your budget if you trawl)

They are warm, completely waterproof and have a hidden system to extend their size as the child grows. You can realistically get a good three or four years out of them.

Also they're Swedish and cope with the weather brilliantly

Frustratedboarder · 22/10/2018 23:18

My DD had this one
www.trespass.com/fame-girls-waterproof-parka-jacket

She loves it - it's super cosy and stylish - and while we've yet to test it fully it's supposed to be waterproof up to 5000mm

Frustratedboarder · 22/10/2018 23:19

Should also say I paid £23 for it (eBay) so worth looking around for a bargain!

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 22/10/2018 23:56

H&M, designed for Swedish winters.

justpaintit · 23/10/2018 07:59

How well do the Trespass Tiffany ones wash please?

stoplickingthetelly · 23/10/2018 08:12

In the past we've had both trespass and regatta coats for ds and dd. Both have been great. Ds also had a fantastic berghaus one, but that was more expensive.

JellySlice · 23/10/2018 08:25

I'm pretty sure I've seen a substantial voucher discount on Lands End coats somewhere.

I've not tried any if their children's coats, but I really rate their women's coats - excellent quality.
