Harry & Meghan have arrived in Sydney.
The purple folders coordinating with her coat will not slow down speculation...

I imagine Doria was the first to find out. And no matter what the media is reporting, I don't believe for one minute that the Queen was told about it at the wedding. She was probably told right after Doria. And for people saying she wasn't told earlier because she was in Scotland, there is this handy little device known as a telephone, which was actually invented by a Scotsman, as it happens.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 15:19

I'm guessing Doria's visit earlier in the month was as much to do with wanting to see Meghan after she found out she was pregnant as it was to do with the launch of the Together cookbook.

And you're probably right @SenecaFalls, the Queen and Charles etc would've known soon after. Perhaps they told other royals like the Kents and Gloucesters, Lady Sarah C etc at the wedding, but I doubt they stood up and made a big announcement!

Jackietheduck · 17/10/2018 16:01

Agree. The Queen, Charles and William and Kate would have been told. They are excited soon to be first time parents. It is natural they would tell those closest to them first.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/10/2018 16:10

I've heard they have secure mobiles. That's how William contacted the Queen as soon as George was born. Can you imagine the gossip available if a Journalist added themselves to the "Cousins WhatsApp group"?

Recently I was looking at a YouTube video of an interview between Sarah Ferguson and an American chat show host where Fergie told how Buckingham Palace was run by “the men with grey hair”. . She said that the Royals do you not speak directly to one another, the “men with grey hair” are told a piece of information and they in turn contact the “men with grey hair”
(aide to the person they want the message relayed to and a lot of the information passed between the Royals depend on what slant the “menwith grey hair” put on the original message.

She said they are the most powerful people in Buckingham Palace and they effectively run the palace. The Royals them sells were brought up in the presence of these men (or similar men obv) and accept their presence and authority entirely.

Did anybody else see it? It was interesting and she had no reason to say it unless it is true. It came up in the interview when she was describing what life in BP was like for her as a newlywed when Andrew was away in the navy.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/10/2018 16:22

I have heard the royals actually write to each other rather than speak in person. Perhaps things will.change with Prince Charles. I have always thought of him as a modernisers.

Jackie I'm sure when fergie was in the thick of things late 80's early 90's (her and Andrew divorced in 1992 didn't they). It may well have been that way in the last 25 years though lots will have changed I imagine with technology ect. I don't see Harry telling Charles about the baby via an aide say.

There definitely seem to have been a lot of letters released lately form the Queen and Prince Philip to Diana so that fits Curly. Again not sure if it's true if the younger royals?

OlennasWimple · 17/10/2018 16:40

"Men with grey hair" were presumably their private secretaries. The younger royals still have them, but they are more likely to be contemporaries than old blokes, I think.

Anyway, those days were long before phones / texts / WhatsApp / emails - even if Harry did formally write to inform HMQ and other that there is a baby on the way, I don't imagine for one minute that he didn't also just pick up the phone to them first

Clionba · 17/10/2018 17:26

Serena Williams is promoting that jacket today on her website. Tricky one, Meghan needs to be careful.

itswinetime · 17/10/2018 17:44

That's not surprising I'm sure it was planned to every last detail. It's a hard one I get wanting to support friends but I think given serena is hardly low profile and struggling herself, Meghan's is walking a very fine line hopefully she also has some British/commonwealth designers in the bag for the rest of the trip even things out!

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 17:45

True, although LK Bennett and Hobbs aren't backwards in promoting their items that Kate wears. She's probably kept LKB afloat with sales of their nude Sledge pumps over the years! They don't do it using a photo of her though, that's going a bit too far.

Clionba · 17/10/2018 17:53

Or directly referring to her, as Serena did with Meghan.
Nice that she wore the Australian jeans that support a women's charity. More of that, less celebrity!

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 17:57

I honestly don't see that it's a huge issue, Serena is her friend and she's worn the blazer once. If she starts only wearing her friends' labels then yes, that'll be a problem. But she wouldn't be the first royal to do something like that!

Hihellohi · 17/10/2018 18:11

Don’t see the problem really with her not wearing British brands. it’s not really soemthing to get “really cross” over.

Clionba · 17/10/2018 18:19

This is a woman with a lot of clout. The website for that white dress she wore crashed!

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 18:21

@Hihellohi I completely agree.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 18:23

And maybe the American and European designers' clothes suit her better. I don't blame her for choosing Givenchy over McQueen or McCartney - if it was good enough for Audrey Hepburn...

Clionba · 17/10/2018 18:31

The head designer at Givenchy is an English woman anyway!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 17/10/2018 18:36

The thing is, Givenchy is about as accessible to the average British woman as McCartney or McQueen is.

She might as well wear what she likes, and no doubt she’d get some nitpickers jumping on the fact she’s not British but had appeared to commandeer UK fashion when she had no interest before her marriage.

itswinetime · 17/10/2018 18:45

I'm not really cross, I just think as pp said the website for the white dress crashed. She has a lot influence now and I don't expect her style to completely change but it would be nice to see some of the boost going to British fashion is all. Not that she should only wear British just mix it up a bit more! However it is only day fully appreciate there is a lot of time left.

YearOfYouRemember · 17/10/2018 19:00

Meghan has worn a jumper from M&S…

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 19:08

And from AllSaints and Club Monaco, both high street brands.

Quantumblue · 17/10/2018 20:17

Melbourne is set for a max of 21 today with possible showers. They will be quite near my work but I will be head down and won't be able to dash out to see them.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2018 20:46

While H&M are asleep, here's more maximum skirt from Maxima! She's toned down the hats unfortunately, which doesn't bode well for her U.K. visit...

In New York Charlene looks incredible in a tuxedo suit - it's the best I've seen her look in a long time. And I didn't even have to look at the intro to guess that the woman in the black dress is Princess Stephanie's daughter as the resemblance is so strong!

user1457017537 · 17/10/2018 21:06

Queenoftheandels I used to buy from L K Bennett but once Kate and the Middleton’s promoted the brand the prices shot up and doubled.
