Cheap perfume recommendations that don’t smell shit?

SummersB · 14/10/2018 08:52

I like nice a nice “clean” smell, also citrusy or quite sweet. So fairly open to a lot of scents.
Just looking for a nice smell I can use everyday for work. I have a really nice perfume (La vie est belle) which I love but I’m trying to save for nice occasions as I won’t be able to splash out on it again for a loooong time.
Any recommendations for a nice scent that doesn’t have that “cheap” underlying smell that a lot of budget scents seem to have?

Sarah Jessica Parker 'lovely' - I get it in savers.
Burberry weekend

kaldefotter · 14/10/2018 08:55

Try the Yardley scents; Boots stock them. I love the Iris and also April Violets.

ARoomSomewhere · 14/10/2018 08:55

I find lots of the 'Next' ones are ok.
but last about 20 mins.

What are the Aldi ones like?

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 14/10/2018 08:57

Marks and Spencer do some really nice perfumes. I like lots of them, go in and have a spray. Nothing more expensive than £15ish. I also like green tea by Elizabeth Arden, £12 for a big bottle in Savers.

Whatsnewwithyou · 14/10/2018 08:58

I love the primark dupe of jo Malone pomegranate.

Branleuse · 14/10/2018 08:59

I really like the lidl one "suddenly" its a dupe for coco mademoiselle.
Next cashmere is a dupe for one of the estee lauder ones.

What sort of scents do you actually like though. Theres a perfume thread going on in style and beauty which might give you inspiration. One of my favourite scents atm was 5 euros from a french supermarket.
What is your favourite perfume

Another one here who likes the NEXT ones

VioletWillow · 14/10/2018 09:07

The Next ones are nice, I had the Gold one for ages. I also quite like the H&M fragrances, they are very cheap.

Another vote for SJP lovely, got a big 100ml bottle for £20 off amazon yesterday, l’m not usually a fan of floral perfume but this has a slight sandlewoody, bergamot undertone and is fab for daytime wear, also J Lo glow is surprisingly nice.

Fairylea · 14/10/2018 09:31

I think a lot of the Britney and Katy Perry ones are nice - if you like a sweeter vanilla-y type smell- and you can pick them up for about £10 on amazon.

LegalEagle99 · 14/10/2018 09:32

Superdrug and their Layering Lab range. About £3 a bottle and smell exceptional. Especially Sorbet, Fresh, Oriental and Cocoon.

MawkishTwaddle · 14/10/2018 09:32

JLo Glow.

Beautiful clean smell, absolutely gorgeous and cheap as chips.

peachypetite · 14/10/2018 09:34

Try Zara

WeMarchOn · 14/10/2018 09:35

I have Lady Million but like the OP I want an every day perfume too

hendricksy · 14/10/2018 09:40

I have been wearing tommy girl for 25 years and always get complimented on it . It's £25 for 100ml in boots at the moment .

ChoudeBruxelles · 14/10/2018 09:41

M&S do some really nice ones

SpamChaudFroid · 14/10/2018 09:45

Try Perfume Parlour, I think I learned about them on the perfume thread on here. I use their Fragrance Dust, (granules you heat in a burner) but everyone raves about their Perfume Oils which are copied from "inspired" by designer fragrances, ie. Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao = Blue Agaava & Cacaaos.

I've recently re-discovered Cacharel Eden, about £15 for 30ml edp, sweet without being at all cloying.

Love this one (and, tbh, pretty much their entire collection!)

beanaseireann · 14/10/2018 10:31

Ted Baker Polly
Usually on offer in Boots.

CountFosco · 14/10/2018 10:58

What kind of budget are you thinking?

For cheap as chips Next perfumes get a lot of love on the perfumista threads, and the new H&M Formentera is suppose to be divine (green fig so a nice clean smell). Avon perfumes are suppose to be fab and I agree with a PP about Yardley scents, although I don't think they last long so spray with abandon. Bronnley is lovely as well, Wild Green is very cheap in Boots atm and a good office perfume. And one of my favourites are the L'Atelier des Bois de Grasse perfumes that are about £10 on Amazon, Fleur d'Oranger Baie Rose is a fresh neroli which I wore a lot in the summer or Ambre Pamplemousse Rose is a rummy amber that is lovely in the winter.

Lots of older quality perfumes are much cheaper than they use to be. You might like l'air du temps which is a clean powdery floral, very very classy perfume and under £20 for a small bottle of the EdT.

I love Gucci Rush, buy as set with the bodycream. You only have to use a little, scent stays on you for a couple of days. I tend to save for special occasions.

Everyday perfume is Far Away by Avon. I buy the perfume, bodycream, shower gel & anti-perspirant. Smells gorgeous and there's always an offer/discount deal.

Just recently bought the Gucci Rush dupe from Perfume Parlour, out of curiosity. I can't believe how similar it is to the real thing, bought the £3 size to start with.

Butterflycookie · 14/10/2018 11:08

Avon is good. I like far away

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 14/10/2018 11:28

Primark ones are amazing.

I bought one called ‘London’ and it lasts all day.

SummersB · 14/10/2018 15:49

Brilliant, thank you all so much!
My favourite perfumes are La vie est belle original and Angel. But I just want to smell “nice” for work iyswim, it doesn’t have to be a copy of the ones I usually wear. I work long hours and I always appreciate it when my colleagues smell nice, even if it’s just a fresh/clean scent, or something fruity or coconutty. So for everyday I’m not too fussed, as long as the smell is pleasant (to me) and lasts.
I tried the perfume parlour oils a few years ago and found the scent was a good copy of my regular perfumes but it didn’t last at all.
Will have a sniff of the ones suggested here, thank you so much.
