Kiss proof lipstick for my wedding

I'm getting married next weekend and I need to find a kiss proof lipstick. Help?

I'm a true winter. Think snow white (pale skin with pink tones, rosy cheeks, dark hair). And I'm over 40 so need something that won't bleed too much or settle in my fine lines.

Lipstick shades I love already:

  • MAC girl about town (prefer this when blotted a bit)
  • Clinique super strawberry chubby stick (basically my natural lip colour)
  • NYX bloody mary (love the shade but a bit drying)
  • MAC sweetie

I can't do anything with orange or coral shades. I need reds and pinks with blue tones. Purple lip shades can clash with my cheeks.

And I want to be able to kiss my DP as much as I like, and graze on the buffet without needing to worry about my lipstick Grin

Go for a liquid lipstick instead? Mac, stila, too faced, ABH, KVD etc. They dry down matte, so no bleeding but may settle in lines so try a few different brands in store and see which formulas work for you. You can also prep with a lip balm or primer for extra hydration. I don’t find liquid lipsticks to be drying/unflattering on me personally.

Liquid lipsticks are a much more sensible option over lipstick if you are planning on kissing/eating whilst taking photographs, and not having much time to touch up in between. Especially if you want a red or pink rather than a nude, a normal lipstick would fade quite noticeably with those colours so i would definitely chose a liquid lipstick

NARS velvet Matte pencils are fab. I have cruella. Doesn't budge and not drying.

PizzaAndChips · 12/10/2018 15:22

Have a look at the colours in L'Oreal Paris' "Infallible 24HR 2 Step Lipstick" range. I bought one for my wedding and i think it's fabulous. It doesn't bleed, and it's even there the following morning that same evening when I religiously remove my makeup (ha!).

Kiss away, drink your champagne - it'll stay put!

Definitely agree with recommendations for liquid lipsticks. I have similar colouring. Colours/brands I like are Stila Patina and Maybelline Lover and Pioneer. I don’t like wearing lip balm over them, as I find this makes them less long lasting and more likely to transfer. I think the Maybelline ones are slightly better, are half the price and normally on offer in Boots/Superdrug. Congratulations on your wedding, have a fab day.

Wrybread · 13/10/2018 09:49

Thank you. Great recommendations Smile I'll go hunting for them today.

You could try MAC All Fired Up. It's retromatte and I find it stays on for hours (gorgeous colour too obviously!)

steppingout · 13/10/2018 10:22

I don't if this helps, but I had my makeup done when I got married - she did a coat of lipstick, then a light dusting of hot pink powder, lipstick, powder, lipstick. I don't know what the powder was but it enhanced the colour of the red and only started to wear off in the last hour or so.

princesstiasmum · 13/10/2018 10:34

L;oreal ,or maybelline 24 hour, max factor do one too, but i use the loreal mainly, lasts and lasts

Stila stay all day liquid lipstick
I did a photoshoot for half a day with it on, then went home and shagged relaxed for 3hrs and it did. Not. Budge

I bought my friend a Tom Ford one and it had excellent staying power.

I find huda beauty liquid lipsticks are the best for staying in when eating their red made it through afternoon tea!

When I've had my makeup done I've seen they colour all the lips in with pencil and then put on a bit of translucent powder and then apply the lipstick. It creates a barrier so the lipstick doesn't sink into the lips.

Good luck, and have an amazing wedding day.

Lipcote clear sealer to go on top - bit retro but still stocked at major chemists

PinguDance · 13/10/2018 17:17

Maybellline super stay matte lipstick - that stuff does not fucking budge. Had little swatches on my hand that lasted 48 hours, two showers, several hand washings, make up remover and eventually only came off in the bath. I ate a pizza and it stayed on my mouth - it’s unsettlimg.

MarmaladeAtkinsX · 13/10/2018 17:20

My Laura Mercia lipsticks last longer than any others I have (mac, Estée Lauder, Clinique, maxfaxtor) I don’t find them drying either.

Trumpton · 13/10/2018 17:41

Rimmel ...really . Provocalips . I use Make Your Move everyday and one of the reds on nights out ( and the following morning ! 💄💋)

Lipcote, wonderful stuff. My MUA put several coats on and it was a bugger to get off but lipstick didn't budge the whole day, drinking, eating, kissing, all good!

Wrybread · 13/10/2018 20:26

Right, I now have:

  • Rimmel Provocalips in the bright pink shade.
  • MAC All Fired Up
  • Stila liquid lipstick in Patina Shimmer
  • Stila liquid lipstick in Lumie

I tried the Stila Patina Shimmer today. It's a lovely natural shade on me and had worn really well.

I'm going to try the other Stila one tomorrow and then work through the others and make a decision.

Thank you Thanks

Another vote for Lipcote

donajimena · 14/10/2018 07:56

Maybelline 24 hr. I've hunted high and low for the holy grail of long lasting lipstick and THAT is it.

Wrybread · 14/10/2018 15:37

Right I'll grab a maybelline one too.

Ok my thoughts so far:

💄Longest lasting liquid lipstick is the Rimmel one. Very good. I'm not sure about the shade though so will need to try it again.

💄Best overall are the Stila ones. They do need a bit of touching up after food but it's not obvious just me being picky. What I also like is that they're a lot less drying then the others.

💄Stila Lumie is a gorgeous shade on me but a little bit darker than I'm used to. So it's a keeper but maybe not for my wedding day.

💄Stila Patina Shimmer looked lovely in the shop and in artificial light but not quite right when I'm wearing eye makeup too. It's more for when I've got no other makeup on because of my pale colouring. So I'll keep it for that.

I've also tried:

💄NYX liquid suede in Buzzkill, and this one is by far the best application. No patchiness at all. Very easy to get right. But it didn't last as well as the Stila ones and is a bit more drying.

💄Chanel Rouge Allure Liquid Powder shade 958. This has pretty good staying for a matt type lipstick and is a beautiful shade on me. It's got a bizarre texture, like a slippery powder. And it's not too drying. But I'm finding it hard to apply well, I'm going to try using a lipbrush rather than the applicator. It doesn't compare to the staying power of the Stila ones.

💄Maybelline Super Stay 24 Colour in Raspberry. This has great staying power and the colour us pretty, although a little dark for me. But it's more drying than the Stila ones and the Rimmel one had better staying power.

So later this week I'm going to try :

  • MAC Sweetie but using lip cote, with some Clinique Simply Strawberry chubby stick on top to keep it hydrated.
  • MAC Relentlessly Red matte lipstick
  • NYX Bloody Mary matte lipstick
  • ELF lip pencil in Tea Rose. This is basically my lips but better as a shade, so I just need to see how it lasts.

I'm not sure whether the MAC Relentlessly Red or the NYX Bloody Mary will be a bit too much with the eye make up I'm wearing.

Trumpton · 16/10/2018 02:11

Whoo hoo ! I suggested the Rimmel. I use it everyday and don’t find it dries my lips at all.
Keep reporting back please.

SallyVating · 16/10/2018 05:03

The maybelline 24 hour one. Can't remember the exact name but it's a liquidy one. Whenever I've used it it's still there the next morning
