What will you replace The Ordinary with? Give me ideas.

Apologies if there is already a thread about Ordinary alternatives, but I haven't seen it.

I'm trying to look after my skin more as I get older. I know a lot of people on here use The Ordinary - which totally confuses me - and have routines which sound exactly like they know what they're doing.

With The Ordinary disappearing, I'm thinking a lot of people will be switching to other products and am hoping to tap in to some of that knowledge about what to look for in a product/recommendations for other brands. Ideally one or two good products - the thing that put me off TO was the overwhelming amount of choice and the sheer number of products to use each day.

Please can you help me navigate the minefield of retinol etc. with brands you recommend and trust? There are so many options, I don't know where to start.

Skin is very combination, prone to redness. Pai rosehip oil works well but I'm not a fan of the smell at all.

Thanks shmiththecat all over face or just nose? Sorry...

Shmithecat · 12/10/2018 18:45

All over!

Shmithecat · 12/10/2018 18:46

And don't be sorry - I bloody love acids. Best part of skincare for me, and the most interesting!

tshirtsuntan · 12/10/2018 18:54

I'm looking forward to seeing if it works, the rest of my skin is now in the best condition it's ever been it's just these bloody blackheads on my nose that have seemingly always been there. Acids have been amazing for me (I'm 46).

Oh no. This is bad news. I need 5% retinoid and a bottle of buffet. Sad

Shmithecat · 13/10/2018 02:24

@thenightsky Beautybay still have both in limited stock. Not sure about the 5% retinoid but GOW do a good multipeptide serum through Victoria Health. Maybe look at buying tretinoids from United Pharmacies or similar, perhaps Differin from Boots for a replacement of TO Retinoid?

I read online that Estée Lauder won the court case, ousted Brandon and hope to reopen on Saturday. So today??

Blimey, what a drama!

QRXlabs is a great alternative at a similar price to TO.

moredoll · 13/10/2018 19:18

Yeah, such a drama. I hope the staff are okay. Seems like a lot of angst for a situation that's clearly been developing for some time.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 14/10/2018 17:18

YY to inkeylist and GOW for similarly priced single ingredient products. If TO goes, I’ll be disappointed, my skin likes their products a lot, but the beauty business moves on and my skin was ok before and it’ll be fine without.

I do feel for Brandon Truaxe. The guy has appears to have been cycling through manic phases in the public eye for a good 12-18 months now. Very sad. He needs help, not a kicking.

SinkGirl · 14/10/2018 17:21

The Inkey List seems to be similar.

I really need a stronger peel - I’ve been using TO salicylic acid and niacinamide and it’s helped but I still have a lot of congestion / large pores across my nose and cheeks. Anyone have any suggestions for me? It’s like the skin in that area is almost thicker

All the stores are back open so you can relax 😬 An interesting article from a slightly different perspective.
