What will you replace The Ordinary with? Give me ideas.

Apologies if there is already a thread about Ordinary alternatives, but I haven't seen it.

I'm trying to look after my skin more as I get older. I know a lot of people on here use The Ordinary - which totally confuses me - and have routines which sound exactly like they know what they're doing.

With The Ordinary disappearing, I'm thinking a lot of people will be switching to other products and am hoping to tap in to some of that knowledge about what to look for in a product/recommendations for other brands. Ideally one or two good products - the thing that put me off TO was the overwhelming amount of choice and the sheer number of products to use each day.

Please can you help me navigate the minefield of retinol etc. with brands you recommend and trust? There are so many options, I don't know where to start.

Skin is very combination, prone to redness. Pai rosehip oil works well but I'm not a fan of the smell at all.

What? Is the Ordinary going? I hope not, love their products.

YourVagesty · 09/10/2018 22:39

The Ordinary are going?! This is literally the ruination of my evening!

BinkyandBunty · 09/10/2018 22:46

What???? Nooooooooo!

Sorry, I'm not properly processing that information. I guess it's going to depend on what you use TO for but I'm thinking Paulas Choice will have a few alternatives although way more expensive. Out of my budget!

I like Mario Badescu for a few things and will probably see what some of the pharmacy brands like Neutrogena and Skin Doctors are offering up these days #sadface

YourVagesty · 09/10/2018 22:50

What the actual hell? Shock

Ohyesiam · 09/10/2018 22:52

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Haworthia · 09/10/2018 22:53

That rambling Instagram post Shock I think the guy’s having a breakdown.

BagelGoesWalking · 09/10/2018 22:57

Pai Skincare - their Rose & Camellia Cleanser is very gentle and even my skin doesn't hate it (a big win for me)
REN Evercalm was also recommended as v gentle but haven't tried yet.
Avène Skin Recovery cream
Timeless
Garden of Wisdom @ Victoria Health- many prefer their Azelaic Acid and Vit C - formulations and feel are better.
Green Keratin have some lovely oils which I've seen recommended
Mad Hippie Vit C serum
Pestle & Mortar Hyaluronic Acid and retinols
Jordan Samuel - only US but ppl rave about the cleansers in particular.

I'd suggest you join the TO/Deciem Fb group - everyone's been talking about latest events and discussing alternatives. https://m.facebook.com/groups/1152773461498024

I think you can still get TO products at the moment? It's the deceim bit that has closed. I could be wrong though. I saw that Instagram video last night. It's absolutely awful. The poor guy has clearly been unwell for a long time. But it's really shocking Sad.

HemanOrSheRa · 09/10/2018 23:03

This article came up on my newsfeed, probably due to my frantic googling Grin.

I feel very sorry for employees. Shops and warehouses have been closed today without even (or barely) 24hrs notice. They must be worrying that they won't have jobs by next week, let alone Christmas.

CaseStudyResearch · 09/10/2018 23:21

He’s not been well for some time - Elle have got a great breakdown of the timeline and issues from this year.

I’m really enjoying Superfacialist products at the moment.

YourVagesty · 09/10/2018 23:40

You'd think thst Estée Lauder would have some say in this but i'm unclear on what the structure is.

That timeline is incredible CaseStudy. What a truly bizarre sequence of events. I really hope he recovers from this, the overnight success of the company must've been overwhelming.

VanGoghsDog · 09/10/2018 23:42

Estée Lauder only hold a small stake but I suspect they will try and do a take over. The guy is obviously unwell, it's been dreadful to observe.

@Shmithecat

Charming. Have some empathy can't you?

Shmithecat · 10/10/2018 00:04

Er, nope. 🤷‍♀️

margaritasbythesea · 10/10/2018 07:28

Oh no!

I'm sorry for they guy and the employees but also really sorry for my face! I started using To products last year and for the first time in my life I have good skin.

FabulousTomatoes · 10/10/2018 07:58

You can still buy on their website - so I’m assuming this isn’t necessarily going to happen?

JackieReacher · 10/10/2018 08:10

I’ve got a big old basket full online but do we have any clue whether orders are likely to be fulfilled?

Writersblock2 · 10/10/2018 12:10

Oh god no! I love TO to pieces. What the heck is my skin going to do?

PumpkinSpicy · 10/10/2018 13:07

It's not going anywhere. He has done this before, during manic episodes

But if you're looking for alternatives, I'd try Victoria Health (they helped Deciem formulate and sell The Ordinary from the beginning) and their GOW (Garden of Widsom) range.

Pretty much the same stuff.

Truckingonandon · 10/10/2018 14:20

QRXlabs. Look at Nadine Baggot - she gives you alternativs to The Ordinary and QRX are one of them.

ElspethFlashman · 10/10/2018 14:23

I saw a post on Reddit where an employee said to only buy at the moment from 3rd party sellers like ASOS. At least then you know the stock is there actually in their warehouse and the order will be honoured.

I've replaced with Garden of Wisdom from Victoria Health. So far I actually prefer them. Better bottles. And arrived super quick.
