they are fab Allie, but as the Upper school shares teachers and facilities with the non-catholic one next door there's not much between them!

marthamoo · 13/06/2007 19:51

ILs live in a small Welsh village where half day closing is on a Saturday. Which is a real bummer if you need a pair of granny slippers (faded from the sun because they've been in the window for several years) or a 1000 piece jigsaw of a coach and horses.

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 19:53

or a faded pack of zoo animlas where the tiger is curry red

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 19:53

NOT ME!

Town 3 miles away/5 mins drive has erm House of Fraser, Next, Monsoon, M&S, Boots, WHS, Waterstones, New Look (Mahoosive), Woolies, 'Nasty' (sells Hooch, Bench etc).

Manchester city centre - oooh, about 20 mins away.

Trafford Centre - maybe 10 minutes away.

Handforth Dean - about 15 mins away - has huge M&S, John Lewis, Next, TK Maxx.

Cheshire Oaks - maybe 30 mins away - outlet village place.

I'm surrounded by SHOPPING! Mwahahahahahahaha!

Marina · 13/06/2007 19:54

Some of the London outer burbs are fairly crap, though, and do not boast the attractive scenery of Wales, the Marches or Caithness to compensate.
My local shopping area boasts a tattoo parlour, a Carphone Warehouse, a rather mad looking undertakers "From your heart not your pocket" , and a Co-Op with no fresh salad or herbs and its own Community Support Officer stationed 24/7.

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 19:54

Moo, the chemist I neglected to mention in our desirable parade of shops has had the same tin of Coty L'Aimant talc in the window for nine years AFAIK
I should also mention the boarded up and long-term empty butchers, green-grocers and two cafes

marthamoo · 13/06/2007 19:56

You didn't mention Macclesfield, GDG - the perfect place for...er...cards and mobile phones. Did ever a town have so many card and mobile phone shops as Macclesfield? I think not.

Gobbledigook · 13/06/2007 19:57

LOL! Macc was my local town when I was working! It's where we went for lunchtime 'shopping'!

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 19:58

we used to have TWO clinton card shops
enpigh for johaahtan meads to mention it in a column

OP posts:
marthamoo · 13/06/2007 19:58

I had a bottle of Coty Lily of the Valley perfume when I was about 11 - I thought it was the height of sophistication.

Marina, does your chemist sell granny rain bonnets and Constance Carroll make-up?

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 19:58
