yes cod, but she does have the 5 star celtic manor on her doorstep for her spa-not-spar moments

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 12:47

My local town is only 1.5 miles away and is proper shite.

If I wante to buy clothes, I would have a choice between
New Look
M & Co
Bonne Marche
and I think there may be a Dorothy Perkins.

There are loads of chip shops, though.

Which goes some way to explaining why everyone is overweight and badly dressed.

Peachy · 13/06/2007 12:48

yeah Spar

like you can laugh at my typing- !!!!

althopugh there is a spa close by- the Celtic Manor, big expensive hotel with spa and gold course place where they hold things like the Welsh Open, and that celeb golf thing, and the Ryder Cup in a few years

Supposed to be very posh

never been there

Peachy · 13/06/2007 12:49

NoodleStroodle · 13/06/2007 12:50

I wanted to move to the country but now I am having doubts...why would you want a fleece with sheep on?

InternationalMouseOfMystery · 13/06/2007 12:50

goh

that also works with

grimethorpe (nr barnsley)
scunthorpe

sarahhal · 13/06/2007 12:53

Wakefield. Shudder. It's horrendous.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 12:54

IMOM. Strangely, I live within that marvellous triangle. Rotherham, Barnsley, various names with 'thorpe' in them.

Tis grim.

sarahhal · 13/06/2007 12:55

Where abouts are you Grumpy?

bundle · 13/06/2007 12:56

just been on holiday to Barmouth. highlight there is Woolworths (if you don't count the Coop)

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 12:57

I feel especially aggrieved as I arrived here via London (where I was born and lived for 19 years), Salisbury and between Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds.

I only wish I had appreciated those fine towns more. I had to go to Doncaster the other day. It's 14 miles away and that is the first time I have ever been. And the last.

InternationalMouseOfMystery · 13/06/2007 12:57

pmsl at thought of local estate agents adopting Marvellous Triangle for that particular area

InternationalMouseOfMystery · 13/06/2007 12:57

goh, what on earth drew you to the peoples republic?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 12:58

sarahhal, I am almost embarassed to tell you in case my remarks have offended! (You are obviously not far away).
I live somewhere grim, but the people are really friendly!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 13:00

IMOM, twas DH's career.

He owes me, big time.

NoodleStroodle · 13/06/2007 13:01

Sorry to sound like Souther Wuss but WHY is it so bad?

InternationalMouseOfMystery · 13/06/2007 13:02

noodle, it's not dreadful - there is some pretty countryside around there

but, put it this way, it hasn't crossed my mind to return

i might go and find a pic to illustrate...

NoodleStroodle · 13/06/2007 13:04

I was very worried for you all there for a moment.

Does the rolling countryside make up for not being within stones throw of Heals or Monsoon?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 13:06

Why is it so bad. Hmmmm.....

Factories with huge chimneys belching
Shut down factories with broken windows, graffiti, no prospect of ever being demolished
Shut down shops with broken/grilled windows, graffiti, no propsect of ever being demolished
No recreational facilities for anyone, because little money locally, so what's the point. Nobody can afford it.
Chip shops (and little else) on every corner
Traffic snarled up through the town at all times of day

Could go on, but it's too depressing.

Property's quite cheap, though

Peachy · 13/06/2007 13:06

Ah at least you lot weren't born in Bridgwater! I tried to find an accurate link but the best i got was the webpage that started with the words 'If yu do not have an internet explorer click here'

If you don't have an internet explorer how the F are yous eeing the page?/ Eh??

Sums the palce up quite nicely

Peachy · 13/06/2007 13:07

But frankly, it sounds like Bridgwater would match the description below, except its even expensive to live there!!
