This is week FIVE of the fourth boot camp of 2007 , everyone is welcome.

Veils drawn over last week

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

THe end of last week was really good for me - seem to have finally got my head round the plan (sounds wussy I know, but it's true). Feeling tons better for having eating loads of fruit, lots of water and very little in the way of junk.

Can you all think of ds1 this morning - he's playing the violin in assembly in front of the whole school, and he's a bit nervous, I am a gibbering wreck. And I will cry, I know I will, so will need to sit in a dark area of the hall I think!

Marina · 11/06/2007 09:55

budge up under that veil www
Have got off to an OK start with usual Special K brekkie and walk through grimy City streets - what a reality check after a great holiday
Mrbatters, apparently it is going to clear in London later - hard to believe that at the mo
tortoiseshell, you must be so proud of him, I do hope his recital has gone well

motherinferior · 11/06/2007 10:10

Ahem

I had better confess now that
(a) I still have the remains of a HUGE Hotel Chocolat box given by generous friend for birthday
(b) I am going to a wine tasting tonight, another birthday present
(c) a small box of hand-made fair trade chocs arrived today, freebie from Chocolala which is revamping its sales.

It is perhaps no surprise that the scales are zooming up alarmingly under my trotters. I am planning a day of stringent virtue up until the wine tasting, honestly

Also, Tortoiseshell, it's DD2's fourth birthday at the end of next week. I'd quite like to get her some sort of musical instrument as she's always terribly keen to give them (literally) a bash: should we go for a xylophone, a proper one? Or what else would you suggest?

Use moisturiser with SPF12 Annie, plus factor 15 sunscreen for ordinary weekends and 25 when doing outdoor stuff
You sound incredibly svelte already
Come on torty, get back here and update us on ds1

Back! Very proud mummy! He did really well, he played 'A Mozart Melody' (aka Twinkle Twinkle) with 3 others. Having woken up at 5 this morning saying he didn't want to do it, he was very brave, and played very nicely! And I didn't cry till afterwards!

MI - proper xylophones are lovely - there are some lovely schools catalogues about. The other things I think are great are packages of 'world instruments' - you can get all sorts of interesting things - this site has a few fairtrade instruments. This is a school site
a bit more pricey but more comprehensive
A good music shop will also have some - is that one on Bond Street still there? Marina or someone like that will probably know the catalogues' names - I had a quick look online but couldn't find very much.

The other thing you could get her is a recorder - dd has got mine, and enjoys it (progress is REALLY slow ), but it is a bit screechy. She is using this book , which seems quite good. this one is more jazzy
they also have lots of percussion

tortoiseSHELL · 11/06/2007 12:57

Ds1 had this which was great, until he discovered how to take the bars off the bases, and they were never really the same again! Chime bars/glocks sound more instantly appealing than xylophones (having the wooden bars), but as she's going to be 4, the xylophone would be lovely (I think they sound so lovely).

Marina · 11/06/2007 13:01

Chappells, yes it is Tortoiseshell
Oh how lovely, so glad it went well for him and you

tortoiseSHELL · 11/06/2007 13:03

thanks!

anniemac - I use this , it's tinted moisturiser with spf and other gubbins. It leaves a really healthy glow, though it is a bit too glowy to use in winter I find

Ahh at Tortoiseshell's ds, how sweet!
Welcome back Marina, there's not much room under this veil due to my lardy arse. And stomach. And thighs

Batters, well done on walking

Lovely mushroom thing last night but had steak and chips in pub lunch and oh well, anyway. Tomorrow is yet another day.

www - do you find that you really have to 'get yourself in gear' - I do that - in the morning I can be so full of good intentions, but then it all goes awry by about 11.30. But once you get on a roll, it's easier to keep going!

I am feeling chuffed because my lovely lovely denim skirt which was just that bit too tight to be comfortable fits really nicely. Feeling really inspired, AND have sorted out babysitting so dh and I can go out and play badminton (after we were married, I had a massive health kick, got down to a size 10, and played badminton 2 or 3 times a week). I think once a week or a fortnight will be our lot, but better than nothing!

tortoiseSHELL · 11/06/2007 18:58

www - he was really cute - he looks so big at home, but at school he is still a very little year 1! At breakfast he was saying 'Please let my violin be good, please let me play well' - he really WANTED it to be good!

winnie · 11/06/2007 20:21

tortoiseshell, ds sounds adorable
Glad you had a lovely holiday Marina

Have had a good day bootcampwise although need to drink some more water today. Happiness not great thanks to dd and x but ho hum...

iota · 11/06/2007 20:23

I was ill at the w/e - D and V - most unpleasant.

I am now full of cold and I only had about 5 hrs sleep last night.

I am not a happy bunny today.
