This is week FIVE of the fourth boot camp of 2007 , everyone is welcome.

Veils drawn over last week

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Pretty good day and feeling cheerful (mostly with major blips when DC drive me mad with their arguing). Did a workout video today for a change and a fair bit of walking. Will not have an early night with ER on late but will have a nice bath and be kind to my skin with lots of nice smelly stuff.

Sobernow - the odd positive comment really does help doesn't it? I have been hinting that this is the case to DH but he just says "You always look lovely to me". Hmm. He hasn't noticed my stronger, toned body obviously.

wow sobernow, three stone in a year, fantastic achievement you and batters both
Poor you Iota, hope you feel better soon
And like you yoyo I am twiddling my thumbs until 11.05pm. They just don't respect ER like they used to at C4, the swines
Wishing all unhappy bootcampers a better day tomorrow - I definitely have holiday hangover. Work and London never looked more grotty and pointless tonight

SimplySparkling · 11/06/2007 21:41

Thanks for the thread www. anniemac I use the sunscreen from Boots with spf 25 for outdoor days and 15 for days when I know I'll only be walking from the car to the office and back. It works well for me.

  • Sunscreen at all times ~ doing well
  • No or little booze ~ ooops. Away at work do last week and lots of booze available each night but I was pretty good. I probably had 2 glasses each night for 3 nts, though.
  • Walking is important ~ Nope. Disaster the last 2 wks. I'm thinking of going swimming after work tomorrow.
  • Lots of water ~ I've had about 5 glasses today.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible ~ oops.
  • Use hand cream ~ oops.
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if poss ~ oops.
  • Eat healthily ~ errrm. This thread calls out to me when I go to the biccie/choc cupboard, but I've slipped a bit. Only a bit, though apart from the work do which was out of my control and I did stick to a healthy breakfast each day.
  • Be happy ~ this bit is okay!
tortoiseSHELL · 11/06/2007 21:59

Can any of you recommend a moisturising cream for the face (kind of anti wrinkles, lines etc) and also a hand cream. Thank you. Have never in my life used these things, but thing possibly if I start now they might have a chance of working.

Also - what are your beauty tips? Your favourite products that you think work?

Marina · 11/06/2007 22:04

Clarins Creme Jeunesse des Mains (once saw this listed on a French website as Creme Jeunesse des Nains = Youthful Dwarves Cream and have had trouble taking it seriously ever since, but it works!)
Moisturiser and so on is so personal. I've tried Jurlique and Dr Hauschka on recommendations and come out in becoming boils almost overnight.
The cream that suits me best is the Origins White Tea one - despite their preposterous branding their products are good. It has no sunscreen in it though.
My failsafe cleanser (sell one of the nippers or send dh out busking if necessary torty) is the Eve Lom one. Now that really is worth every penny IMO.

Marina · 11/06/2007 22:05

And I go nowhere without a travel sized tube of Clarins Beauty Flash Balm - it is excellent stuff! Even on me...

tortoiseSHELL · 11/06/2007 23:09

Thanks Marina - will have a look at those.

yoyo · 11/06/2007 23:45

Clarins hand cream is brilliant and lasts yonks. I like the Origins face wash (checks and balances) for greasy days and Origins Dr Weil cleansing stuff for dry days. Moisturiser - Dr Weil is ace but am continuing with the Boots stuff for now. Miracles can happen...

Tortoiseshell is indeed a younger boot-camper and you are so right about being freer in what you can use that side of 40 mrbatters. I've only recently started using Eve Lom after my long-term Lancome combo started making me all red and flaky
The Olay moisturiser that many find so great has also done this to me - was on my seventh pack and suddenly, zitsville
Ray is not dead. I however, might as well be, I am so zonked.

tortoiseSHELL · 12/06/2007 09:19

Marina, not that young, as my dad keeps reminding me(!) - I'm 30. But that's interesting about the creams - I'm going shopping on Thursday when dd is at playgroup, ostensibly for ds1's birthday on Saturday, but might include a trip to Boots, armed with your suggestions! Thanks!

Marina · 12/06/2007 09:28

Pah, you are a tiny child. I was in loons and cheesecloth and armed with a Bay City Rollers Jackie poster when you were born kiddo

Marina · 12/06/2007 09:29

But I am definitely younger than your dad, the cheeky chap!

tortoiseSHELL · 12/06/2007 09:33

lol marina! He's always on with the 'well, you're not as young as you used to be, it's all downhill from here.'

Having said that, my mum is really young - she's 55, and I remember a really funny conversation at work with a colleague just before I got married, when I was 21 and my mum was 45, we were talking about going shopping for bridesmaids' dresses, and I mentioned that my mum couldn't come to London with us, and my colleague made some comment like 'well, she'd probably just slow you down, she's probably not so steady on her feet now, does she still walk?' At which point I mentioned her age, and my colleague realised she was in fact the same age as my mum!!!! She was very embarrassed and I laughed a lot!!!

tortoiseSHELL · 12/06/2007 09:34

Just read that back, what a stupid thing for my dad to say - it's true of every single person in the world! My dad is mad!

motherinferior · 12/06/2007 09:48

Morning all
Right, the wine tasting (and ahem associated food) is behind me. I am tipping even further on the scales. Virtue, virtue, virtue is the only way ahead, oh gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd....

But I am in line for some freebie sunscreen next week when I start my new job, at least Oh, there's some Liz Earle in the cupboard, they said airily

bundle · 12/06/2007 11:31

hello all

hello all

I am no longer a woman barely alive - I have had a good sleep and spent the morning in town shopping for a batch of birthday presents - damn should have worn my pedometer ( not a moron, just some cheap thing off ebay)

I had to save ER on sky+, so will probably watch it later.

and as for you SHELL, you are young enough to be my daughter, so stop with the age stuff NOW!

yoyo · 12/06/2007 14:49

Marina - I didn't see it (DH suggested an early night). Please tell me about Ray. He is so lovely. Sobbed last week.

No gym today but did Pilates class. Wil try and cram in something aerobic later but have loads to do so it is probably unlikely.

Have had to move to the last notch on my belt!! Hurrah!!

Marina · 12/06/2007 15:01

ER spoiler alert for Yoyo's benefit

I missed the hormone-riddled wedding due to hols and much of this episode seems to have been taken up with the fallout. Geeky med student Sam copped off with turns up with doting parents in tow who seem to think she is his fiancee - cue some dismal laboured comedy scenes

Hope and Archie have some fun in the honeymoon suite - Archie has to go on shift first and tries to persuade Hope to stay there and eat marrons glaces for another few days. She of course checks out to do HER shift but reassures Archie that she doesn't see this as a fling, to his transparent delight (am secretly rather fond of ole Archie)

POOR Neela ends up in a lift with Dubenko AND Mae Ling at the same time, has another yawnsome showdown with awful Gates about who is supposed to be crying more about their break-up and ends up going to Ray's deserted flat to check why he has not come to work...

New ICU man (the mighty Stanley Tucci) struts around telling Pratt and everyone else in the ER off about the consequences of keeping patients in triage etc too long - point is illustrated by physicist whose tummy ache swiftly deteriorates into coma-inducing, brain-damaging gut perforation and sepsis. He is last seen calling that old porker Anspaugh and "changing his mind about that job offer"...I think we all see where this is leading...

People keep coming up to a bemused Abby and apologising for their conduct at her wedding. She has a good call on a woman whose head trauma admission leads to the discovery of an aneurysm in her brain which has been altering her personality which is how she got into a violent fight with her partner and fell downstairs...

No-neck Pratt is still trying gratingly hard to impress Bettina

Luka and Abby are about to fly lovingly off to Hawaii when he gets a call he takes in anguished Croatian...it is his old papa in the Motherland...

Ray is seen only in "Next Week..." looking duffed up and tragic, with lovely Katey hissing at Neela, "You did this to him, you bitch". So yes, alive, but none too happy. Same trailer suggests whiz-bang finale at some kind of public rally involving Homeland Security alerts, gunfire, and Neela being knocked to the ground in a panicky crowd stampede...
