I suppose mines a mum bob 😶 dyed copper red. Looks nice when I spend time on it but shit really for everyday. However I have to wear s hat for work so it's not seen much. Would love short cut but scared of looking mannish. I'm 6ft, overweight and not petite and dainty. I did have an asymmetric short cut which wasn't to bad as it was long on top/fringe. However I have a side fringe now after growing out a blunt full fringe do don't have the shirt cut with long fringe option at the moment. It doesn't look Kim bob when I've styled it properly!

slinkysaluki · 14/09/2018 11:18

Oh dear autocorrect strikes again sorry 😀

Polkapjs · 14/09/2018 11:20

In the hairdressers now. Is it the graduated but that’s a mum bob??!!

thenightsky · 14/09/2018 11:24

Yes... I think its the graduated bob. What you having doing in the hairdressers Polkapjs ?

pumpkinyael · 14/09/2018 11:24

@Polkapjs

I think so, yes...

WipsGlitter · 14/09/2018 11:29

Why is a "speak to the manager" bob??

I sort of thought more Lego hair than graduated.

sanssherif · 14/09/2018 11:34

Yeah lego hair, styleless, tuck behind your ears type.
Not graduated-thats stylish. Its aging and makes your face look fattee. I had one a year ago and just looked at a 40 something 'dowdy mum' in the mirror. I was 36.
It is now shoulder length.
The mum pony tail is also shit btw

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:35

I always thought a plain old shoulder length bob was a 'Mum Bob' so it pleases me to find out that's not the case.

I've always silently refered to the 'Mum bob' as a 'Frankie from the Saturdays bob' as lots had their hair cut like that of all ages when she first came on the scene with hers way back when.

I have secretly always detested that hair style for some reason it's just to styled and therefore not very cool imho. Sorry Blush

isthismylifenow · 14/09/2018 11:36

Oh God, then I have a mum bob. Hmm

I have a shorter at back than sides bob....and i like it. I get compliments all the time. Ah fuck it i am a mum and nearly 49.

I thought a mum bob was the all one length just cut straight across bob.

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:36

Plus I totally get why it's also called a 'Speak to the Manager Bob' Grin

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:39

isthismylifenow. I'm sure if I didn't have thin straight hair I would have embraced the Mum Bob by now at some point. Quite possibly I'm just jealous of the fact I can't Grin

I have boring long hair which I probably shouldn't have at my age 48 and also a DM.

isthismylifenow · 14/09/2018 11:39

Oh tg sanssherif . I do think i look more stylish than mumsy.

Grin
sanssherif · 14/09/2018 11:39

Why tantri

QueenOfMyWorld · 14/09/2018 11:39

Mum ponytail?! Explain!

AnnabelleLecter · 14/09/2018 11:40

It's another term to make some women feel all superior and others question themselves.

actualpuffins · 14/09/2018 11:40

I think a graduated bob can look a bit rubbish if the back is too short/shaved and the front doesn't suit your jawline, but it is a style which can look both attractive and professional if done well.

It is certainly not "faffy" to look after, unless you think washing and straightening your hair twice a week is a real bother.

thenightsky · 14/09/2018 11:41

What's a mum ponytail?

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:42

thenightsky also Grin

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:42

in that I mean I also worry about that statement Grin

isthismylifenow · 14/09/2018 11:43

Tantric top tip, collagen tablets. Wink I have never had such thick hair as I do now, I have to go to get it thinned out and shaped at each cut. Which is unbelievable as I had fine wispy hair up until mid 40s

Redcrayons · 14/09/2018 11:45

Mmm I’ve been considering getting my currently shoulder length hair cut into a bob, going for a no nonsense Anna Wintour. I fear I might tread into Mum-bob territory though.

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:45

Oooo that is top tip isthis

I have to say my hair is in the best condition and has grown quite well of late since using Syoss Olio21 shampoo and this is on my lank locks.

GuestWW · 14/09/2018 11:46

I have a mum bob, I am a mum and have a blunt cut that brushes my shoulders. I also have mum boots, I am a mum and own a selection of very nice boots.

This constant use of the mum prefix to mean dowdy, older, less-cared for is pathetic bordering on nasty.

I also have a 'speak to the manager' hair cut, I am a manager with hair Wink

TantricTwist · 14/09/2018 11:49

guest I'm not sure that your interpretation of Mum Bob is actually what it means at all, I could be wrong, but it doesnt mean that to me.

To me it means well maintained, grown up but just not very trendy. I could be wrong.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 14/09/2018 11:52

I think bobs can look fabulous the graduated ones pictured here look fine to me. What I class as a mum bob is all one length at chin level, curled under with matching fringe and slightly triangle in shape, team that boot cut jeans and a fleece and your on a one way ticket to frumpsville.
