I want a dramatic hair cut but no idea what to ask for with pic

Help!! I am trying to sort my appearance out after losing myself a bit as a shm for 3 years. I have booked in for a restyle next week but no idea what to ask for. Currently have hanging curtain hair.

On the plus side i've lost 5 stone in the last year so I actually have a face shape again

On the negative side the weight loss means i've lost a lot of hair and although it has now started to grow back it is very thin.

I have quite good cheekbones (i think) and it the past having a fringe wide to expose them looked good but dont know if i'm too jowly now or would emphasise the roundness of my face?

I want to be brave and really go for it so please inspire me

Don’t shoot me but I think you would suit a Jennifer Anniston style cut with layers and highlights. Not the Rachel per se but her hair a couple years after that.
I KNOW her hair was so 90s. But it was very flattering.

actualpuffins · 12/09/2018 17:11

I think you would suit shorter and more blonde, not necessarily this blonde, but I think the style would suit you.

This is the style I have my hair cut in, and I have it coloured a cool, creamy blonde.

Always get lots of compliments.

These look nice and as though they'd work with your hair without being too much effort? (I like the hairdressers here giving a reality check on these things.)

The vast majority of those haircuts will just be a mum bob without major styling

LapinR0se · 12/09/2018 18:15

This but slightly longer.

My hair is like this. Easy to style!

The messy SwedishEdith bob looks possible as do Lapin and Symbols suggestion. Your face isn't fat - you have good skin and cheekbones. I would keep most of the length and have a long fringe. I wouldn't get a bob.
Go for Lapin's look.
Well done on the weightloss. You look great.

Looking good but I know just what you mean about mum bob. I’m toying with pixie this week. I think a colour and some slices of caramel or blonde would liven yours up no end. Can’t wait to see fringe pics

Kirdypurdy14 · 12/09/2018 22:34

This is my hair I have quite a thick block fringe aswell I think a fringe would suit you and maybe some warm chestnut highlights or blonde /brown ombre

Lots of mums I know have short bobs or shorter hair but they are the ones who do style their hair and whose hair always looks nice. I want to look like a mum, I am 43 years old and very proud of being a mum. I don't see why "mum" is a criticism. Don't deny who you are.

CountFosco · 13/09/2018 06:40

I'm really surprised at everyone saying colour your hair. You have gorgeous blond hair, don't ruin the condition by dying it. Although you want a dramatic change make sure you say you don't necessarily want something that needs heavy upkeep. Regular salon dying is expensive. If you have short hair ( I have a very short pixie) then you need to get it cut every 6 weeks minimum to keep any shape. What are you prepared to pay for? I am happy to get it cut regularly but spend about 30secs pulling it into shape in the morning after my swim. Very easy!

cheaperthebetter · 13/09/2018 07:23

My opinion would be;
Flash highlights through hair (caramel colours)
Heavy fringe
Choppy (lots of layers especially at the back on top, so you can use some clay to give volume)

GuntyMcGee · 13/09/2018 07:31

I think just a couple of inches off the length and them adding some shape around the face would make such an enormous difference without a drastic length change.

GuntyMcGee · 13/09/2018 07:33

To be fair the senior director should be able to give you some ideas of what will suit your face shape. You just need an idea of what kind of length you want, how much upkeep and styling you want to/can do and whether you're up for mega change or somewhere in between

SoupDragon · 13/09/2018 07:38

Why do people insist on using “mum” as an insult?

Katisha · 13/09/2018 07:47

Could someone post a picture of a mum bob? I'm worried I may have one!

BusterGonad · 13/09/2018 07:59

After a quick google, I think this is what a mum Bob is! Don't shoot the messenger!

Can you post a pic of what style you get as I have similar hair to yours and never know what to ask for so always endbuo coming out looking exactly the same!

InTheNavy · 13/09/2018 08:03

@LapinR0se's suggestion- sensational-more about the cut, less about the styling- just perhaps some product to thicken/ add texture?

Frequency · 13/09/2018 08:18

And that mum bob pic is virtually the same style as the other two A-line bobs posted but without all the slick products and styling.

actualpuffins · 13/09/2018 08:37

Regular salon dying is expensive

I do mine myself and get lots of compliments about the colour.

My hair a bit like the picture Buster posted, but longer at the front, more graduated, and more shiny. I wash it twice a week and straighten it, other days I just brush it. I also have to look professional for work and can't have anything too unconventional.

In my mind, I look like this Grin

How about a pixie OP?

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 13/09/2018 08:51

VERy few women have short hair nowadays which is a shame as lots of women would look fantastic with it.

The bob I picked was a 60s style geometric one. Since you have straight hair already it really isn’t a big deal to style. Most people spend 5 mins on their hair a day after all ....

Hoppinggreen · 13/09/2018 09:38

I have dark chocolate hair mostly ( sort of natural colour but dyed to hide grey) and then underneath I have some blonde highlights.
This means I don’t have to keep getting the blonde done to avoid regrowth. Also I sometimes add a temp colour such as pink which only colours the blonde bits so it’s quite subtle
I’m getting it cut and coloured next week and apparently am having a “textured graduated bob” according to my hairdresser with the colour redone the same but with a purple wash over the blonde bits
