For an evening in the pub?

I have no fashion sense whatsoever, please help! Blush

If it helps, I am late 30s, 5'3ish and a size ten. Recently lost quite a bit of weight and have no idea how to dress any more. Blush

Hell yeah

Ellapaella · 25/08/2018 18:27

Yes definitely, it's my going out uniform

TokyoSushi · 25/08/2018 18:28

Yes of course!

Shylo · 25/08/2018 18:28

Ha ha - I was about to say ‘hell yeah’ too

Oddcat · 25/08/2018 18:28

Absolutely! I think it's a great look.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 25/08/2018 18:28

Of course!

TenThousandSpoons · 25/08/2018 18:29

Yes! And a “nice top” obvs.

rightknockered · 25/08/2018 19:35

I never see anyone out wearing skinny jeans/heels/ nice top anymore. Everyone usually wears flares/ cropped flares and trainers, or midi skirt/t-shirt/sweatshirt and trainers.
I think I must live in a very non-dressy part of Essex.

Oddcat · 25/08/2018 20:00

RightKnockered I'm obviously in the posher part of Essex Grin

Bugjune · 25/08/2018 20:19

Heels look a bit dated to me at the moment and that's coming from heel lover.

Needsleepneedsleep · 25/08/2018 20:24

Yes definitely! Pointy toed and skinny heeled (e.g. stilletos) work really well with skinny jeans.

sirmione16 · 25/08/2018 20:34

Yeeeeeessssss 100% but if the jeans crease/go lose at the ankle, roll them up so they end just over the ankle. I like turned up jeans anyway to be fair but the space between the shoe and heel lengthens the leg too

beela · 25/08/2018 21:08

Interesting, thank you!

It must be a bit regional, because in the rural west country, it would look as if you were on the pull... which you might be TBF. Here we would wear the same but with shoes that assumed you would be walking home.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/08/2018 22:21

I only ever see jeans/heels/nice top on Mumsnet, never in real life. I must go to really scruffy places.

beela · 26/08/2018 07:23

Haha, no, not on the pull.

I like heels because they make me taller - most of my friends have a good few inches on me. If we're out for a meal I usually wear flats because we'll be sitting down so it doesn't matter.

When I used to go out lots, ie 10 years ago before dc, it was all bootcuts with heeled boots. Feeling old now!

I think rolled up boyfriend or girlfriends jeans with heels looks a bit more modern than skinnies (plus are more flattering). However, stack loads of people still wear skinnies so you won’t look out of place if you do.

Ellapaella · 26/08/2018 10:03

Wearing heels makes you look like you're 'on the pull'????
How utterly depressing.

Biologifemini · 26/08/2018 10:07

Court heels with skinnies is a big no (from me). Ankle boots or flats.
Court heels look a bit dynesty (to me).
I don’t think the line of the foot and skinny jeans works well with courts.

Dustbunny1900 · 26/08/2018 15:29

Roll them up or crop them

XingMing · 26/08/2018 20:32

Ella, to a private home or dinner, heels are fine. Just not in the pub! This is rural, really really rural.

Ellapaella · 26/08/2018 21:32

@XingMing I grew up in the heart of the Cotswolds, In the days of my youth (not now because it's full of ex Londoners now)our local pubs were the kind where everyone would turn round and stare at you when you walked in... if you weren't a local the whole pub would go quiet for the rest of the evening!
So I guess in that context I get what you mean, heels would have been considered perhaps a little 'suggestive'Wink

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 26/08/2018 22:04

I wear skinny jeans with heeled sandals.
Youngsters nowadays are going out all dressed up but wearing their Vans. When my dds we're going out like this I asked if they were wearing shoes/heels they said no one really does anymore. Here anyway

TigerDroveAgain · 26/08/2018 22:06

Heels?! Why do you think that’s a good idea. You might as well tie your ankles together and be hobbled that way. Ridiculous

Clockwork95 · 26/08/2018 22:08

Hmmm I don't know...I think in my area they might look a little dated actually! It's more likely others would be wearing trainers (in a "fashion" way not a "I don't care and just want to be comfy" way). But I doubt anyone would really care.
