Dress for a wedding!

Been invited to a wedding of a work colleague of my relatively new dp, evening invite for the both of us. Will be the first time meeting any of his friends/work pals.

Extra level of wanting to impress is that myself and my dp work for the same company, but in different areas. So there will be some important work people at this wedding as well.

I need a dress that looks nice, i want his friends to be impressed by his hot new girlfriend, but also want to make a good work impression, so still professional-ish?

Im size 8, slightly pear shaped but can balance it to am hourglass with a padded bra, 5'4" with pale skin and long dark hair.

What do you think of the dresses attached, or any other suggestions??

They are all too much, number 1 slightly less so! Sorry.

If you are aiming to impress work people then go a little more conventional. Unless you work at Ann Summers. Harsh, but sadly what came into my head.

You can still find something that shows you have a good figure, just not so obvious.

AgathaF · 22/08/2018 07:27

They're all a bit 'look at meeee' for a wedding.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 22/08/2018 07:35

My suggestions might be off because I'm Irish and weddings are definitely dressier here, but imo what impresses me at a wedding is a dress that's a bit different but not too revealing. Plus black is so normal and definitely ok (about 10 years ago you couldn't move for black bridesmaids dresses).

hazeydays14 · 22/08/2018 07:36

I think 3 is the best option for the evening of a wedding do.

I don’t think no shoulders is a thing at weddings, unless you go to a church I suppose. I wore a strapless jumpsuit recently and there were plenty of women in floral strapless dresses in the 4 weddings I’ve been to in 3 months 😱😂

nodtik · 22/08/2018 07:37

For what it's worth, I am getting married later this year and I would love my guests to make an effort, like you clearly are!

I agree that 2 is a bit too clubby, but 1 and 3 are both gorgeous and appropriate for the evening reception of any wedding!!

Buy what you feel the most comfortable in xx

OhOfCourse · 22/08/2018 07:47

Dress 3 is the best. I don't agree with the posters that say it's "look at me". It's really classy and if your hair is blow dried well and you have some nice heels, you'll look fantastic.

I don't know what your budget is but definitely try House if CB. I have a feeling you'll love their stuff.

dundee12 · 22/08/2018 08:10

Love the chi chi one that was linked. Not sure about any of the first 3 I’m afraid.

whattimeislove · 22/08/2018 09:35

It's the work link that puts me off all of them tbh.

My general rule is that I don't wear over the top/unnecessarily revealing/sexy/clubbing clothes if I'm out with work people. I want to be taken seriously at work and don't want to be seen as anything but a work colleague - fully accept this could just be me though!

OP - I would go for something with some kind of sleeves & not skin tight, but ultimately you know the crowd you'll be with.

DiamondsInTheMud · 22/08/2018 20:02

Ive ordered the 3rd one, ill see how it looks on and take it from there. If its not ok ill get something from lipsy i think, cant usually go wrong with their dresses and can go and try them on. Wasnt wanting to spend that much but if needs must!

So I ordered the dress and this is it... I think it looks ok, and looks evening wedding reception appropriate... What do other people think?

Also are the shoes ok?

I like the dress but not the shoes, the shoes look cheap/club wear. Pointed heels would be lovely with the dress details but sophisticated ones, not the awful cheap pointy styles you see in Primark/boohoo etc if you know the type I mean!

TheDuckSaysMoo · 23/08/2018 20:15

Great dress choice OP! You look fab - chic, sexy and professional too.

pieceofpurplesky · 23/08/2018 20:18

I thought you had a massive white hat on when I first saw the photo (no glasses on) Smile
You look amazing but a little OTT for a colleague's wedding. More Love Island.

DiamondsInTheMud · 23/08/2018 22:28

Thank you! I'll have a look for some shoes, what colour do you think would work well?

OP posts:
Foggymist · 23/08/2018 22:44

I would say black shoes but as someone else said I'm in Ireland where black is fine to wear (especially to just the afters) and weddings are very dressy events so maybe disregard my input! Grin

RebeccaCloud9 · 23/08/2018 22:54

Looks great, good choice. Perfect for a wedding evening do.

Aus84 · 24/08/2018 05:09

I thought red was inappropriate for weddings.

If this is your first time meeting these people you are not going to make a good impression showing up in dress #1.

Aus84 · 24/08/2018 05:10

Oh, just saw your update. Good choice.

Fresta · 24/08/2018 08:21

It looks fab on you OP- I'd go with some sexy black shoes though instead.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 24/08/2018 09:06

I have a pair of leopard heels and a pair of orange heels I wear with black dresses.

loveka · 24/08/2018 09:16

It looks lovely on you.

The shoes are not right though. Go for a more subtle heel, a stilletto, rather than those. Something classy.

Atalune · 24/08/2018 10:45

Those shoes aren’t right.

Try a bright colour or a pattern.
