What to do with this dress?

I bought this in a 10 and was lucky to get it. It's now sold out in a 10 and an 8, so swapping isn't an option, or even trying an 8.

But t feels a bit too big round my chest, shoulders and arms.

I've attached some photos if you could let me know what you think? The one either my arm behind, I've pulled it in at the back so show the difference. I'm also wondering if the sleeves can be chopped to remove the frilly bits and maybe taken in slightly as they feel really loose.

But the dress was only £46 and I don't know if it's worth it! But I'm running out of time to get anything else now.

What do you all think?

It looks really lovely! Those sleeves would drive me bonkers personally, but it does look nice!

Bombardier25966 · 18/08/2018 19:15

I like the body and the pattern, but not the sleeves or the frill. It's kind of Oasis/ Warehouse sale stock. I'd keep it for £20, not for £46.

Is it for an event?

Bombardier25966 · 18/08/2018 19:18

And you're right on the shoulders, definitely too big. Hopefully a seamstress will comment but it looks like it would need a lot of work to get the dress you want.

Indisdress · 18/08/2018 19:18

It's for a christening. And it's Oasis Grin

I think I would like the sleeves cut just above the frill, but I feel they should also be tighter round my arms and shoulders

Ohyesiam · 18/08/2018 19:21

I think It looks better loser.
The frill would be easy to remove, just cut it off fold it over , hem it and press it.

Bombardier25966 · 18/08/2018 19:22

The 8 (and most other sizes!) is in stock on the website.

But I do think they have far nicer dresses for a christening.

lackingimagination · 18/08/2018 19:28

Sorry I think you should take it back, it doesn’t fit and you can do much better.

Indisdress · 18/08/2018 19:29

I checked the site again just yesterday too! I might check the store stock and go try it tomorrow. Though I think I'm off it a bit now.

They do have lots of other lovely dresses, but alas, I'm a total midget! (Can't see the yellow one though. Both your links bring up the navy one)

It's Ok but not wow. And I would baulk at paying £46 for it, it doesn't really say "special".

But if you are feeling good wearing it - and from the photos you look great in it - then go for it.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2018 19:32

Tbh it isn't that much of a bargain given it doesn't fit, your aren't keen on the style and there's far nicer materials. Send it back and go shopping or order stuff online so you can try and return

Indisdress · 18/08/2018 20:15

Yeah, think I need to start again. It looked so lovely on the model and I had perfect shoes to go with it!

You have a lovely figure, swap it for something that fits

heretohelpGB · 18/08/2018 20:49

Can I ask what shoes you got for it? I am a size 16 and bought it during the week and it is really lovely on my for my shape but just don't know what shoes?

littleskittle · 18/08/2018 21:03

I think it's lovely, perfect for the event and very flattering except for baggy sleeves. I get things taken in at a local haberdashery (as 4'11, nothing sits quite right!) and it only costs a few £ per seam. I would keep it and find someone to take it in

KNain · 18/08/2018 21:08

Oasis have concessions in John Lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraser plus Asos, Next & Very online.

Is this the dress? Could try it in a size 8?

Indisdress · 18/08/2018 21:30

@heretohelpGB these are the shoes I planned to wear. They're a couple of years old now.

@KNain thanks. @Bombardier25966 pointed out that it's back in stock on the Oasis website. But I'm not sure I've totally put myself off it now.

I think the problem is that you are short waisted (like me). So if you lifted the shoulder seams up while trying it on, it will look better but obviously it will be difficult to adjust that. I find oasis too long in the body for me.

heretohelpGB · 18/08/2018 22:23

Thanks @Indisdress they are lovely with it! I had some black stilettos but they didn't work, definitely need something chunkier!

Branleuse · 18/08/2018 22:26

I love it

MoltonSilver · 18/08/2018 22:57

The shoulders are too wide. Have it altered. Apart from that its lovely.

Indisdress · 19/08/2018 19:31

What about this green one. Bought it for a Xmas night out year before last.

Too green/wintery? Too much? Too fat?

makeupmaven · 19/08/2018 19:46

Too much faff for altering, and the fit isn't perfect without it. I'd return.

Also not terribly keen on the lace dress - I think it's a bit fussy for a christening. Do you have anymore options?

makeupmaven · 19/08/2018 19:55

What about these?

One
Two
Even a jumpsuit?
Or another jumpsuit?

Indisdress · 19/08/2018 20:02

The yellow one might be an option! Not the striped one, and I’m definitely too short for Oasis jumpsuits Sad

I also have this? Would wear with nude shoes (this is an old photo when I was contemplating it for a wedding) I’ve worn it since to a birthday party.
