What can I do to look younger between now and Monday - skint

Hello fellow MNers

I have a meeting at the end of the day on Monday - kind of an interview but more in the format of a chat (much nicer).

I'm feeling like I'm looking REALLLY old - which I am. My neck has really really started sagging very obviously and my face is like a roadmap.

I've got no money for Botox or anything like that sadly.

Is there ANYTHING I can do between now and Monday, on an incredibly limited budget, to address the wrinkles and/or the sagging neck?

I'll obviously dress carefully, and nails and toenails have been done, all the things one would expect but I just feel really really old! I know that shouldn't matter but it does to me.

Still, there's probably not much I can do but if anyone's got any tips for the chronically poor, I'll have 'em!

There's nothing I can do about the extra stone I'm carrying at the moment of course but hey ho!

Wear your hair loose and brush it forward. I look older with my hair tied back as it shows the neck and jowls.

Smile a lot to lift everything up.

Eyelash flares are good and only £12 in my local salon.

Wear a flattering colour.

thenightsky · 10/08/2018 21:07

No alcohol between now and then.

Anusol pile cream on the face lines on the day.

DoinItForTheKids · 10/08/2018 21:13

Dang it thenightsky, I'm all out of ass cream!

I have short bobbed hair wemadeit so it'll just be very carefully blow dried and looking neat and professional.

I shan't be drinking, getting sleep is not guaranteed but I will try and I will drink and drink as I'm a bugger for not drinking very much at all.

Toads I'm off to look at that cream, thank you and thanks everyone for all the great ideas.

What is an eyelash flare, did I read that right?

Someone once said:
"Don't try to look young - Try to look happy."

LunaTheCat · 10/08/2018 21:32

Lots sleep, no alcohol, face masks every night, exercise daily so you are really puffed (makes skin glow)....and if possible sex!

flutteryleaves · 10/08/2018 21:35

someone has already said it but sleep and good eyebrows.

DoinItForTheKids · 10/08/2018 21:47

Luna, can't remember the last time so not going to be able to enter the room with that particular glow, unless I get lucky with an unsuspecting fellow commuter on the way over there!!!

I'm actually really looking forward to this meeting and feeling really positive about it - crossing fingers I can move up to a salary where I don't have to worry every bloody month about making ends meet.

Wear something in your very best colour against your face . Also make sure that the colour of your lipstick is 100% right too .
Nothing beats wearing your most flattering colours to bring out the best in you and give you confidence. And don’t forget the genuine smile with your eyes .

cathyandclare · 11/08/2018 07:25

Echo the eyelash extensions. Natural ones take years off me.

dudsville · 11/08/2018 09:29

I'd suggest that you're focusing any angst on the wrong thing - how you look - however, if it makes you feel better on the day then these things are worth it.

Get outside and go for some walks in the fresh air.
Water instead of any other liquids
Fruit and veg
Early nights and lovely day time naps
You can make a home facial with a double cleanse, a facial scrub, a steam for your face with the towel over your head (scented oils if you have any!), any facial oils you have and a nice massage, a great face balm.

Panticles · 11/08/2018 09:57

Young is not necessarily. Professional, competent and approachable.
Smile and answer the questions they ask, remembering to add in your best points.
They want someone to do a job well.

HesterHare · 11/08/2018 10:01

I use Retinol Reface in the evening, Vitamin C suspension (from The Ordinary) in the morning followed by a broad spectrum face suncream. The whole lot will probably cost just over £30 but will last a while. I honestly feel like it made a difference to my (admittedly fine) lines and face creases when I smile, within a week

haverhill · 11/08/2018 10:03

Lots of water, lots of sleep, eat well with good fats, maybe wear a scarf in a flattering colour around your neck. You’ll look great. We’re always so much harsher on our own looks than anyone else is.

teta · 11/08/2018 10:05

Judging by the way you’ve responded to these suggestions, who needs beauty when you have wit........in spades!
Experience and intelligence trumps beauty any time.

makeupmaven · 11/08/2018 10:11

Sleep, a litre of water (minimum) per day, lots of sheet masks (I like the Garnier tissue masks). Bio Oil (or any kind of facial oil) on every night before bed.

DaphneduM · 11/08/2018 10:14

Smile!!! My husband always tells me it takes years off!!! When I'm worried about something and it shows in my face I get the comment 'You're looking like your mother'!!!!

annandale · 11/08/2018 10:22

Posture. Walk like a queen (not 'the" queen).

Do some yoga - I'm not much of an expert but there'll be loads on YouTube. After a yoga class with a yoga nidra relaxation bit at the end, I feel about 2 inches taller.

Doingreat · 11/08/2018 12:16

Eat salmon every day till the meeting. It's meant to give you a glow if you eat it 3 days in a row or more according to the perricone diet.

Lots of water. Exercise that gets your heart pumping. This could be a whole new healthy new you!

Only joking. I'm sure you're pretty healthy already op.

DoinItForTheKids · 11/08/2018 14:49

Thanks teta!!!

I do eat lots of salmon Doing - bit obsessed with it, must have been a bear in a former life!

I could do with two more inches Annandale, I'm only 5ft tall!!

thick red and black circles on the face add a decade ( that is why teenagers slap up) so dont do that.

sleep and a smile remove years.

intrigued what job interview inspects toenails....

DoinItForTheKids · 11/08/2018 16:22

Foot Fetish Specialist specialsubject (only kidding). If it's a hot day like it has been, I'll be in sandals, need me toesies to look decent. I've never put thick red and black circles on my face! Wasn't sure what you meant by that Grin

I would second a facial oil and mask treatment. Also, try going to MAC and getting a sample of the strobe cream or a reflective primer, I think all the budget makeup lines do one as well. I would suggest lightly self tanning as well as that gives a glow.
A couple of tips that help me look less tired is that I put a soft white highlighter under my brows, down the bridge of the nose and down the laughter lines round mouth.
I think a smile always makes a massive difference too!

DoinItForTheKids · 11/08/2018 17:26

Thanking you!
