Ok I am early fifties live in the UK in a wet part of the world and we have a dog. Ever since watching Keeping Faith drama I have been obsessed with a yellow jacket are these naff or not for walking the dog nipping to the shops and which is bette, I know the last one is a bit Paddingron bear or should I forget it? I thought the yellow would be nice and bright in the winter as I hate full dark winter colours? Has anyone got a Seasalt jacket and are they value for money and practical et?

I love them! I'd avoid Paddington Bear toggles personally, and go for the brightest yellow I could. Have you seen this Top Shop one? It isn't so expensive if you decide you don't like it.

Owww that TOP-SHOP one is nice and bright domesticslattern thanks I kind of prefer it but unfortunately I am tall and would need an 18 or 20 to accommodate my shoulders and the rest of me and it only goes up to a 16 online.

I love Seasalt jackets and waterproofs. Very practical.

PickAChew · 01/08/2018 23:12

I have 2 Seasalt jackets, the tiller coat, which is lightly padded and a bowsprit jacket. Both are lovely but the bowsprit is just the waterproofed outer plus a cotton lining and I think the seafolly that you've posted pics of is the same. It stops being warm enough sometime in early October!

I got this one OP in a sale in a local store. Green.absolutely love it! Very flattering and lightweight.
No Paddington toggles.

I have a yellow one from Joules. Wears really well and I’ve had it for a couple of years now. Absolutely love it and get loads of compliments on the colour too.

Waltzingmatilda65 · 01/08/2018 23:36

I looked at that green one it looks a nicer cut but had my heart set on the yellow. Feel like it’s a midlife crisis. But I do like bright things. I am wondering if they will have a discount code online soon for the yellow.

Matalan have them in a range of colours and sizes.

I remember seeing them in store and thinking "Keeping Faith".

I have the Joules one - not with the stripy lining but a navy and white spotty one. I love it. Unfortunately jeans dye has rubbed off on the inside of the hem.

buckleten · 02/08/2018 00:03

I have a Lazy Jacks one, similar to Joules and I love it

neveradullmoment99 · 02/08/2018 00:23

Did you know OP that the yellow one you posyed from seasalt (3rd pic) is reversible? I have ordered one but may have to return it as reviews say its generous. I like the idea of wearing it on the blue side.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/08/2018 00:27

I’ve got a Seasalt Seafolly jacket, I think it’s called Seafolly, about bum length. Very warm and waterproof and quite flattering on me too.

AtSea1979 · 02/08/2018 00:35

Are the sleeves too short or is it the weird way she’s wearing it? Does it have a zip as well as the toggles? Otherwise the rain and wind will get in.

Pengweng · 02/08/2018 07:31

I spend a lot of time outside in all weathers and have just ordered this one on a whim while buying the kids new fleeces. It's cheap so I'm not overly bothered if I go off it after a season. It will go nicely with my yellow bee wellies.Grin

Thanks all I might bob down to Matalan today and check out if they have the jacket in store. I tried the Regatta one on yesterday but I am 6ft so the sleeves were short and it was neat on the body.
Yes it has a zip as well as the toggles. Whilst the toggles are an extra detail extra faff to fasten. The reversible one is a generous fit even on me. The navy is very average looking so I don’t think I would wear it that way but it’s £70 cheaper than the Seafolly one. I looked online and Country House Outdoors have some in too. Decisions decisions toggles, cheaper reversible one, green one in the sale or Matalan one.
I am usually quite warm so it will be my winter coat/jacket with an extra layer underneath.

I also loved the look of the one on Keeping Faith. I'm really not sure in real life though. I think they might suit a particular way of dressing which isn't really me at all. However, if you're used to wearing bright colours, and it probably helps if you have Eve Myles beautiful blonde hair, then go for it.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 02/08/2018 10:05

I found a gorgeous Lighthouse jacket(or maybe Target Dry) last year that was bright yellow and I thought it was gorgeous. However I bought it and my dm asked if I was going deep sea fishing Shock
Changed it for another colour. I might check out the Matalan one though.

Ratonastick · 02/08/2018 10:31

I have the yellow sea salt bum length one. It’s very hard wearing and still looks like new after 2 years service. It’s lighter weight than I expected and has very little warmth to it, but I sized up to be able to wear a sweater under it anyway. To be honest I bought the brightest colour they had as I live in a small village with no street lights so I worry about being seen, especially at dusk. I wouldn’t wear it to work as I know I look like an overgrown toddler in it, but somehow that makes me extremely happy!

Orangesandlemons82 · 02/08/2018 10:34

I have the yellow Joules one with a stripy inside. I love it! It has lasted really well and I absolutely love the colour.

Ubicorn · 02/08/2018 10:36

Sainsbury's have a yellow one with white and navy stripes lining.

YouWereRight · 02/08/2018 10:50

Around here they're very wannabe instamum.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/08/2018 11:46

Around here they’re just a nice sensible jacket. We don’t really take much notice of instamums.

Hammondisback · 02/08/2018 11:53

Not naff at all - practical and cheery. I found a lovely budget version in my local Tesco and love wearing it.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/08/2018 12:18

For anyone interested I have posted pictures of the seasalt reversible one in real life on the hush thread. I think its great. 2 coats for the price of one and great if you get fed up with yellow.

Kool4katz · 02/08/2018 12:49

I wear a bright yellow fluorescent jacket when dog walking as I want to be seen and not get run over. There are no pavements here so I walk on narrow rural roads.
I'm also in my fifties and couldn't give a stuff what anyone thinks of my clothing choice or my bright lilac/purple pixie crop.
Must admit the stuff sold by Boden, Seasalt etc. are just a bit too mumsy/WI for me.
