Please help me find this gorgeous black dress

This is a forlorn hope...but I saw a sales assistant in John Lewis wearing the most BEAUTIFUL black dress, but she had been a bit huffy with me so I didn’t like to ask her and assumed I would be able to find it in the shop. I couldn’t, and I can’t stop thinking about it...if anyone can find it I will LOVE YOU FOREVER

It was black, quite a floaty light fabric (maybe a cotton/silk mix) and knee length with a full skirt and quite full elbow-length sleeves. The hem and the sleeves had a kind of cut out lace detail around them and it had a V neck (could have been a wrap dress). It was beautiful, and days of internet searching have got me nowhere. It really reminded me of a black ted baker dress I had about 15 years ago but much prettier.

I know it’s a long shot...but it’s my last shot....thanks for reading!!

Is it the Studio Eight Mary Lace dress? It’s the only one on the JL site that looks like it would match your description.

emma it was a similar shape but it wasn’t a lace overlay, just a sort of cut out border around the hem and sleeves. Big round holes, big enough to put a finger in. Thanks for trying though, it’s so sweet of you!

Could you not just swallow your pride and go back in and ask her? You say she was huffy with you but she probably won’t remember you as there will be so many customers. I would go back in look like you are shopping and have a reason for being there and then say ‘oh by the way’ and then mention the dress.

You realise you are doomed to stalk the store assistant forever until she wears it again and you can ask her

If yo go on pretty little thing or ASOS and search black dresses in that style you might find it

I’ve been in again twice....didn’t see her....

I’ve tried ASOS but I’ll have a go at pretty little thing now....watch this space....

Maybe she made it? It didn’t look homemade though. And another customer complimented her on it and she just sniffed (I was at the next till listening intently!!)

chocolate that’s the closest but it was a kind of cottony fabric rather than actual lace, I’ve described it really badly....I’ll try a get a photo of the dress I had that it reminded me of....

Maybe you could be sneaky and ask personal shopping team in store? Say you saw perfect dress on a member of staff. They may know her and be able to get more info out of her?
