I need an amazing foundation

Troyes76 · 27/07/2018 07:43

So my foundation has finally run out and I need a new one.
I’m mid 40s, dry skin, a few blemishes and acne scars.
I’d love a foundation which makes my skin flawless but have never found one, they always seem to go blotchy or too shiny.
Any recommendations?

I use Clarins Radiance Foundation. It has a lovely texture and lasts most of the day - I always re-do my make-up late afternoon anyway! Good range of colours. My skin is combination with rosacea and it works for me so should cover any blemishes/scars you have. I also rate Clinique Satin Balanced Foundation which has a gorgeous texture.

Double wear by Estée Lauder is very good. I used it for my wedding.

marshmy · 27/07/2018 07:54

i second double wear! Be warned though it's addictive and expensiveGrin

Baxdream · 27/07/2018 09:06

It cosmetics cc cream, the best I've used in a long time!

Elledorado · 27/07/2018 09:07

Makeup forever ultra High Def. Amazing satin finish and lasts.

I've just started using Benefit Hello Happy foundation - it's very good at hiding blemishes and doesn't feel too heavy.

3stonedown · 27/07/2018 11:34

I must have brought 100 different foundations over the years. Double wear is my favourite as it is full coverage but feels very light. It really stays in place too, I've done a few 5ks and still looked flawless with it.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 27/07/2018 11:46

I got two samples of Doublewear recently and used one for a run of graduations, in the past 10 days. It did last all day and felt surprisingly lightweight. The sample pots were huge so, don’t need to make a decision just yet as rarely wear it.

Vichy Dermablend is actually quite light but has 75% more pigmentation and lasts well. It also has spf35.

People rave about the naturalness of Mac Face & Body but having tried. Must get a sample!

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 27/07/2018 11:46

have not tried

BettyBooHoo · 27/07/2018 12:37

Another vote for IT Cosmetics CC cream. Just so, so good.

ScrambledSmegs · 27/07/2018 12:53

I’m not claiming this will work for everyone, but if I want my skin to look flawless I use a light application of a mineral loose powder foundation on my face before I apply another, light foundation. It seems to work better than any foundation primer I’ve used - makes pores practically invisible, gives great coverage without looking heavy and also it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin.

I saw a YouTube makeup artist (a British man, forget his name) recommending using loose powder before liquid foundation a while ago and have adapted his advice to suit my very fussy skin. Bizarre but it does seem to work.

I use Lily Lolo as certain ingredients in other mineral foundations, such as bismuth, irritate my skin, but I presume others should work in the same way as long as they aren’t matte formulations.

NerdyBird · 27/07/2018 13:00

Doublewear is amazing, I wish I'd found it years ago. I use mineral foundation powder on top. I've also discovered that using a beauty blender to apply powder is better than a brush if you're putting it over foundation.

Naughtykitty · 27/07/2018 13:04

I use Tropic powdered Foundation, it's brilliant! And it's all made from natural ingredients so very good for your skin too. I love it! X

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/07/2018 13:04

Mac StudioFix liquid foundation is awesome.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/07/2018 13:05

Half the job is how well you apply it, what primer you use, what powder you set it with and how. It’s not just the make up itself that controls the result.

Elledorado · 27/07/2018 13:11

MAC is terrible for acne. Estee Lauder DW doesn't photograph well imo (may not be an issue but it's a requirement for me!)

Elledorado · 27/07/2018 13:13

And totally agree with rain^^ If you want flawless, you need a great moisturiser, primer and good application, with v fine powder over the top. Or fucking amazing skin.

TroubledLichen · 27/07/2018 15:13

Another vote for Benefit Hello Happy. It’s not like any foundation I’ve used before, I used to use Mac and I’ve been converted.

macattack52 · 27/07/2018 15:14

Max Factor CC Cream from Amazon.

MissMarplesKnitting · 27/07/2018 15:16

The Ordinary.

I prefer the serum to the coverage one, but both are excellent and under £6. There's a great shade choice too.

Doingreat · 27/07/2018 18:56

@scrambledsmegs I think you mean wayne goss. British make up artist. Has excellent tips and tutorials for anyone who is interested.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 27/07/2018 19:33

Can I ask those who love IT Cosmetics CC Cream, how do you select a shade? Boots now do it, but my nearest store is 70 miles away.

ScrambledSmegs · 27/07/2018 19:37

Thanks Doingreat, that’s the guy! He’s really good and that tip has been brilliant for me.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 27/07/2018 19:40

Yes! I just can't learn to love DW because the ghost face in photos is just too much! Out of interest, do you have any suggestions for foundations which do photograph well? Literally the only one I can find is Bourjois Healthy Mix, but I am open to other options as well?

macattack52 · 27/07/2018 19:42

@AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy they have a uk website. www.itcosmetics.co.uk
