I need an amazing foundation

So my foundation has finally run out and I need a new one.
I’m mid 40s, dry skin, a few blemishes and acne scars.
I’d love a foundation which makes my skin flawless but have never found one, they always seem to go blotchy or too shiny.
Any recommendations?

Any guerlain foundations IMO. I am currently using Lingerie de Peau which gives the most amazing glow. Ruth Crilly reviewed this and said how she kept catching a glimpse of her skin in the mirror and couldn't believe the glow; she wasn't wrong. I have combo skin and am 42. It is superb. I want to try the Pature gold next. Just because Grin

I second Beautifullymixed Maybelline's Fit Me is the bees knees. I used the Dewy one though, not the matte one and it looks so natural but the coverage is excellent, I get stopped in the street and told how glowing/healthy I look. Quite a feat given that usually my extremely dry skin makes me look like an aging vampire. It also seems to skim over lines and wrinkles and smooth them out, and it lasts all day even in the heat and humidity.

Beautifullymixed · 01/08/2018 11:47

BlameIt I'm going to try the dewy one too now!
I have heard such good things about this foundation as well, but I usually have enough of my own glow going on.

Recently though, my oily, but dehydrated, rosacea/eczema prone skin has been more on the dry side, especially in the heat.

A little glow might be nice, especially on days where I don't need the foundation to last for hours.
Very excited now!

I want to be stopped in the street....Grin

DW looks awful on dry skin.

Armani Luminous Silk is fantastic. I’m getting a lot of compliments using Laura Mercier on my very dry skin, it’s really glowy.

pangolina · 01/08/2018 13:08

Seconding Lancome Teint Miracle. Good coverage, buildable, dewy finish and photographs well.

HolyMountain · 01/08/2018 13:41

Naicethingsyou won't regret it, it's sublime.

BlameItOnTheNeon · 01/08/2018 14:05

Beautifully and I was just thinking I'll give the matte one a go for evenings and nights out! Grin. I was really stunned and a bit suspicious people were taking the juice the first few times, but then I looked back at some photos when I was wearing it and it makes an astounding difference.

I was a bit skeptical when the beauty assistant in the shop recommended it but I've since followed a lot of her other recommendations and she seems to suggest miracle workers that I'd have passed over normally. I can't believe how amazing it is for such a low priced foundation!!

jarviscockerslover · 01/08/2018 14:09

For dry skin- Clinique even better glow. Seriously it's the bomb. I love double wear too, but Clinique best for dry skin

Beautifullymixed · 01/08/2018 14:36

BlameIt give it a go!
It's £5 on amazon at the mo, although i have to pay double for the dewy one.

My problematic skin changes so often, and I'm just getting through a rosacea flare up, which has left my t zone especially, dry and rough.

I was thinking, that I could wear either foundation, or mix the two, leaning towards either dewy or more matte depending on the occasion.
I already mix two shades of this foundation for the most perfect match I've ever had.

I so want it to look fabulous!

smokeybaconcrisps · 01/08/2018 14:39

Double wear is good but way to thick and heavy.
Bobbi Brown is light wear last all day full coverage and looks unreal in photos!

BlameItOnTheNeon · 01/08/2018 14:47

Beautifully that's a great idea, you could put each one, matte and dewy on different areas depending on your skin, I'm going to try it too thanks! I'm not in the UK, in the local drugstore Maybelline has a third off this week, and usually its around eight dollars.
In the dewy the 220 natural beige shade matches my skin perfectly, I'll have to check if the matte shades are the same Grin

Beautifullymixed · 01/08/2018 14:55

BlameIt I use the shade 220 myself.
It's almost the exact shade for me, but in winter I need to add a drop (or two) of shade 128 to perfectly match.
I can also add the Ordinary foundation shade 2.0N to it as well.

I have heard that the shades can vary according to the range, which does worry me a little. I think it's because the dewy one is coming from USA.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping that if there is a variation, that it's on the lighter side. Wink

Beautifully Can I have some help?

I will take a slightly rude guess and guess you're somewhat tanned in complexion like me, since your username says you're beautifully mixed? GrinBlush

I'm racking my brains over the Fit Me foundation! Which one is it? There are two with the same name... One in a glass bottle, and the other one looks less fancy, with a black lid and plastic bottle.

The glass bottle one seems to have a lot of tanned and yellow shades, but the plastic bottle one with the black lid seems to have different shades altogether.

I'm from a Hispanic background with very yellow (warm) skin that's fairly tanned.

I'm wondering if 220 would do me too?

It's not very clear from my frantic google searching

I usually use double wear but my almost perfect shade is the right amount of yellow, but far too pale.

Plus it's very dry on me.

Cover FX custom cover drops!

It's pure pigment, and not designed to be worn on its own, you mix it with your moisturiser/ serum / whatever works for you!

You use one drop for light coverage, up to four drops for full coverage.

The beauty of it is that you can customise it with the products that suit your skin, so can achieve a matte or dewy finish, based on what you mix it with.

Sometimes you need full coverage, sometimes light, based on how your skin is behaving at the time, and this saves you from having to have multiple foundations.

You absolutely can't go wrong with Double Wear, but I would invest in a primer too. Either Smash box or YSL Touché Eclat Blur Primer.

goose1964 · 01/08/2018 16:46

Laura Geller balance'n brighten. It's a powder so it's much lighter on the skin

Beautifullymixed · 01/08/2018 16:48

Lupi of course - if I can!

I am indeed mixed race, Caribbean and English, and am a fairish, beige colour (with pink cheeks!), who suits a neutral shade of foundation with no red/pink/overly yellow undertones.

The shade 220 is very popular indeed, and I can wear it alone, but for a perfect match, I add a drop or two of shade 128. I believe that this shade is the one before, but the USA does have different shades, which is confusing. I can just about wear this shade on its own too, but not if I'm tanned.

The squeezy, plastic tube is the matte and poreless foundation. This is the UK version, in the USA they have a glass bottle without a pump.

The glass bottle (in both countries) is the dewy version, called luminous and smooth.

Both are loved worldwide, and it is down to individual preference as to which one is best.

I watched endless you tube tutorials and swatch videos to help me choose a shade.
I found two ladies on you tube who matched my skin, (Vilma and Saaamage) and kept my fingers crossed!
I was correct, and use these ladies as shade reference for other things too.

I hope this has helped, as it is confusing choosing a foundation shade in the first place.

I absolutely love this foundation though, and can't wait to try the dewy version.
I also have the fit me concealer (in the shade sand), and this is great too.

Try it!

Beautifully and Lupi this is the one we have, I'm in Canada, and they've just changed the label, I can't remember what my extremeld bottle said now, but the wording was slightly different. Anyway, this is the dewy one. Please excuse the non pristine bottle!
Lupi I also have yellow undertones in my skin (some Asian blood) and this is one of the few colours which doesn't make me look ill, I'm fairly tanned, hands excepted, they're always covered by gardening gloves.

I need an amazing foundation
BlameItOnTheNeon · 01/08/2018 17:51

Beautifully I never thought of adding a colour in winter, I just add self tan to my face to keep it at that shade Grin. I will be trying it this with term though thanks!

LupiPie · 01/08/2018 18:41

I had a whole reply sent but it appears it didn't actually send Envy

Beautifully It's a shame the American shades seem to have more variety for different skin tones. I know I'll definitely need something yellow because that's my undertone and I look ghostly without Sad

The only thing I've found in yellow shades is Nars. Their shades are available with yellow undertones even as you go darker.

I used Estée Lauder for years but it was too pale. And the next shade up and above were too red in undertone.

Plus it often looks dry on me!

BlameIt I think the American ones look better, and I'm suspecting yours is American since it's next door and probably imports the same ones prepares self for a telling off Grin

BlameItOnTheNeon · 01/08/2018 18:49

Lupi Grin thanks, and nope, no telling off, just sparking internal grumbling about how much more we pay here for the same products than our neighbours do and how our "new" released style and beauty wise are usually a year behind HmmGrin
