Do setting sprays work?

Particularly in this heat and without drying skin or causing it to break out?
Have you any recommendations that won't break the bank whilst I try it out?

Thanks!

Definitely. I use the NYX dewy finish one - from Boots or online. It’s quite cheap but it definitely has kept my make up in place this summer (in fact colleagues have commented how I always look cool when they’re all sweaty Blush)

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/07/2018 20:42

Oh bugger now I have to buy setting spray.

I need a cruelty free one not sold in china though so that should slow me down a bit.

Pinkvici22 · 23/07/2018 20:44

Sorry Fluffy not sure I can help but I’ve also tried the L’Oréal one which was awful - left white blotches on my face (like water marks), and I’ve tried the W7 one but that didn’t seem to do anything at all. I’ve just bought the primark own one too but not properly tested it!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/07/2018 20:47

Rimmel's is OK.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/07/2018 20:53

I might buy the wilko one. Nicanamide and zinc was not doing anything today.

foxycleopauper · 23/07/2018 20:57

Agree that the L'Oreal one is awful, it left white lumps all over my face. So weird.

Urban Decay All Nighter is great.

ClaireUnderwoodforPresident · 23/07/2018 21:03

I've just spent 19 quid on the MAC Fix + Matte spray and I think my face is more oily with it on! As a pp, it also leaves white patches unless I shake VERY vigorously. Angry

Watching for recommendations OP!

Littleshape · 23/07/2018 21:04

The urban decay one is also good! Agree the L'Oréal one is awful - avoid!!

themiddleismyhome · 23/07/2018 21:05

I use the makeup revolution matte fixing spray and think it's great. I wouldn't say it actually makes my face matte but it does keep my make up in place.

Maverick66 · 23/07/2018 21:11

Dd swears by Urban Decay one I think it's called ...all nighter.

catlady34 · 23/07/2018 21:14

I use the L'Oréal one as primer and it works really well - for those PP's (quite rightly) saying it's a bad setting spray! Saves you throwing it away.

JeSuisPrest · 23/07/2018 21:26

I second the NYX setting spray - I always have a fan (aka folded up Lidl leaflet) to have a good old waft to help it dry quicker. I am peri menopausal and hot flushing for England as well as coping with the heat so I'm using anything and everything to stop my makeup sliding off my face.

Byebyebye · 23/07/2018 21:28

Yes they work quite well.

Superdrug’s own vitamin e spray works well as a dupe for UD all nighter for whatever reason. I have both and reach for the vit e spray more. A lot cheaper too.

Pinkvici22 · 23/07/2018 21:31

Thanks for reminding me about Urban Decay - also great, but IMO not worth the extra cost. NYX works as well for me.

combatbarbie · 23/07/2018 21:32

Make up Revolution one is good...my make up is practically still in tact after a night out 🤐

Jellyshoeshurtmyfeet · 23/07/2018 21:37

NYX dewy or Urban Decay De-slick for day and the All Nighter for evening. I only started using setting spray this year afyer asking a colleague how she managed to stay looking great all day without toyching up her make up. Setting spray was a revelation!

SittHakim · 23/07/2018 21:40

Make Up Academy one is rubbish - no white patches, but it didn't keep anything in place any longer than normal.

Crazy3 · 23/07/2018 21:42

Bodyshop instablur primer is very good to avoid oily sweaty look- won’t actually stop you sweating but deffo make you look less oily. You can put it on top of makeup if your foundation drags on top of it. Great on its own too.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/07/2018 21:43

Thanks all, I'll try the NyX one. I use quite a lot of their products as it happens especially their matte lipsticks; I could no longer justify my mac habit.

I use hairspray have done for years, just a light mist.No breakouts

Loonoon · 24/07/2018 03:00

Normally I would swear by the NYX dewy and it’s been great in NY and the Caribbean in the past but the temperatures and humidity in London atm have defeated it. I think the only thing that would set my make up currently would be to dunk my head in a barrel of flour at every tube stop.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2018 16:48

Well I bought the wilko one and it's not great on the T zone, but nothing ever is for me, but oddly my eye make up likes it a lot.

Might try make up revoloution if it's not sold in china.

travailtotravel · 29/07/2018 18:07

I've got the body shop one. It works well.

FirstTimePetitioner · 29/07/2018 18:12

Fluffycloudland77 Why do you not want things that are sold in China?

I've never used a setting spray, reading with interest.

PamBeeslysCardigan · 29/07/2018 18:17

Urban decay all nighter is fantastic, I wear it over Estée Lauder DW and it doesn’t budge. I’m acne prone and it’s never caused any problems.
