I have to buy petite maxi dresses and there's not that many about with short sleeves.
I usually wear plain clothes rather than patterned and have ordered this dress from Asos.
I like the fit and style but I'm not sure about the pattern.
Can I have your opinions please - good or frumpy?
Thanks.

Its not to my taste, the pattern reminds me of a toy I used to have as a child. The fit is nice though.

Sisgal · 19/07/2018 07:25

Sorry but it's a bit frumpy. Maybe it will look nice when you try it on.

Mokepon · 19/07/2018 07:26

I also do not like the pattern, it's a bit too much.

faloma · 19/07/2018 07:26

Depends how old you are and when you'll wear it but I think it's frumpy.

SummersB · 19/07/2018 07:28

I'm the other way round - I like the pattern but I would put a different style on you - fitted on top, gathered under the bust or around the waist and more flowy over the hips if you know what I mean?

ihatethecold · 19/07/2018 07:30

It’s looks frumpy and dated.
Sorry op. You need something fitted. You have a great figure x

Fresta · 19/07/2018 07:31

I'd go for longer if you want a maxi- that's a midi length on you. The length and cut make you look a bit top heavy- try something fitted at the top and more flow would the legs to balance you out.

Spam88 · 19/07/2018 07:31

I think the pattern is fine but I don't think the shape of the dress flatters you. It's a bit too narrow in the skirt, so it doesn't balance out your boobs.

Fresta · 19/07/2018 07:32

Flowy round the legs! BTW the pattern is fine!

Cannothtinkofaname · 19/07/2018 07:35

Right, that's sorted - it's going back!

My rule is usually if I'm not sure about it, it's not right but I wasn't listening to myself. I have now listened to the wise words of Mumsnet and seen reason!

Thank you for your help.

Frumpy

Branleuse · 19/07/2018 07:40

I think it looks lile quite a useful dress if you like the pattern and the sleeves. It would depend for me if it was expensive or not.
I would possibly alter the neckline to be lower though

fabulousathome · 19/07/2018 07:43

Yes the neckline would look better as a V.

BabloHoney · 19/07/2018 07:45

I think it’s a really nice dress and looks lovely on you!

Fresta · 19/07/2018 07:49

Something more this style would look good on you www.next.co.uk/g673192s4#535288

Fresta · 19/07/2018 07:51

By the way, why do you have to buy petite? It looks too short to me- the regular would probably be a more flattering length for you.

nearlyfiftyjeez · 19/07/2018 07:57

Seriously frumpy

ChateauneufDuTwat · 19/07/2018 07:58

It's giving me strong Per Una vibes. Especially paired with those sandals.

Think you can do much better OP. You have a lovely figure.

thinkfast · 19/07/2018 07:59

Too short for you.

sonjadog · 19/07/2018 09:13

I don´t think it brings out the best of your figure. The neckline is too high and it makes your top half look bigger than your bottom half. I´d go for a v-neck or a lower scoop and then maybe have a fitted waist and move flowing skirt.

rhubarbfool · 19/07/2018 09:25

Agree with the others - you need v-neck, fitted waist, a-line or sticky-out skirt to show off your figure.

Cannothtinkofaname · 19/07/2018 09:32

Thank you for all your comments, I have taken note.
The trouble is it's all very well saying what you'd like, but unless you're having something made for you, it's hard trying to find something in the shops that fits the bill. Plus I'm only 5' 2" so even less choice.
I do prefer a V-neck but can't seem to find anything in a maxi - with short sleeves as well.

I am actually going to see a dressmaker to see if she can make a dress that I'd like, but hopefully not too expensive.

By the way, some of the suggested dresses were nice but not really me - I'm very plain and semi fitted.

Oh and thank you for the lovely comments on my shape - I wasn't expecting that!

You have a lovely figure, but the dress is a bit frumpy - unless you're quite elderly? Which I doubt. What about a dress with thin straps and a tshirt under it?

CountFosco · 19/07/2018 12:27

This would be lovely if it wasn't for the silly cut outs.
