I made this dress out of a duvet cover. Does it look like it?? My dc say I look like a house elf....(only jokingly!)

Nice for casual wear!

Peanutbuttercups21 · 11/07/2018 07:51

It's nice!

Grandmaswagsbag · 11/07/2018 07:51

No it’s really cool. Very clever!

HeyDolly · 11/07/2018 08:12

No, def doesn’t look like a duvet cover to me!

SinglePringle · 11/07/2018 08:15

Before I read your post in full, I saw the picture and thought ‘Greek taverna table cloth’.

Apologies.

KirstenRaymonde · 11/07/2018 08:17

I like it

AsAProfessionalFekko · 11/07/2018 08:18

I love it! A duvet cover - wow, really smart work.

ReturnofSaturn · 11/07/2018 08:20

I think it looks good. Did you use a commercial pattern for it? I wouldn't mind knowing what the pattern is if you did Smile

KalindaBlack · 11/07/2018 08:21

I really like it the style of that dress, nice pattern too.

GuntyMcGee · 11/07/2018 08:22

My first response was 'ooh! Cute'

I really like it OP. Not looking like a house elf or roman serving wench at all. Neither does it look like a duvet cover.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 11/07/2018 08:22

Actially I'd like it more with a wide fabric tie belt (in a bow).

AvtarRamKaur · 11/07/2018 08:30

I do have some fabric leftover I can sew into a belt, I just used this small tie from the tunic top I used as a pattern.

I didn't use a commercial pattern, just traced around a slouchy tunic I like and made it longer.

Thanks for the feedback - I reckon it's good enough for the school run on a hot day!

It looks nice on you. Making your own clothes is a really good skill and I'm jealous?!!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/07/2018 08:47

Love it! Is it lined or did you just chop up the duvet cover? Such a good idea, I’d love to try but as a novice linings etc intimidate me!

FoofFighter · 11/07/2018 09:00

Where was the duvet cover from? My only concern would be someone having it on their bed and being rude enough to point that out. But if you're like me you wouldn't care and tell them so.

Love it!

ReturnofSaturn · 11/07/2018 09:05

Empressjewel its never too late to teach yourself. I just recently have taken it up with no prior experience of sewing whatsoever and it's going ok!
The key is to start simple. Get an easy beginner pattern online that comes with good instructions.

KingLooieCatz · 11/07/2018 09:11

Wanna make my own dress now.

pangolina · 11/07/2018 10:23

I love it and envy your sewing skills!

HildaZelda · 11/07/2018 10:25

I like it. You're very talented. i can just about sew on a button!

AvtarRamKaur · 11/07/2018 11:30

I was thinking about lining it, but I just didn't want extra fabric in this heat.

I don't remember where the duvet cover is from, but I'm quite happy to ignore anyone who judges me for my house elf attire! They are probably sweating while I walk away feeling cool and breezy. Grin

I mostly taught myself how to sew from YouTube videos and blog tutorials. Using an old duvet is perfect for practice because you aren't scared of going wrong!

You are Giselle from Enchanted and I claim my five pounds!

dementedma · 12/07/2018 22:14

it's lovely

elQuintoConyo · 12/07/2018 22:18

Oh that's fabous! And looks so cool in the heat.

3 years ago i made my then-3yo some shorts put of that Ikea hippo fabric, in lime. I had one mum ask me when Ikea had started making kids clothes and she was off to buy a bagful!

Making something out of an old duvet or sheet is inspired. Bravo.

SprogletsMum · 12/07/2018 22:20

I love that dress it's gorgeous!

AvtarRamKaur · 12/07/2018 22:53

Thanks very much!

I made a second dress out of the other half of the duvet cover, I'll take a pic sometime - it's a different pattern on the fabric. I added pockets but made the openings too small! Grrr. Such a pain. I'll have to fix it at some point. But still - two dresses out of one duvet cover! Not bad.
