I made this dress out of a duvet cover. Does it look like it?? My dc say I look like a house elf....(only jokingly!)

It's lovely and recycling at its best. I think I need to learn how to sew.

MadisonAvenue · 13/07/2018 06:25

That looks so good!

I had a duvet cover, pillow case and curtains made by my DM when I was small. Because she didn’t like waste I also had a party dress made out of the remnants of the same material. (Laid out on my bed I couldn’t find it.) That summer I discovered I also had a bikini made in the same stuff. Remnants seem to go on and on.

I really like your dress OP. And that you made another. And that there is enough for a belt. Just waiting for the bikini shot now.

This reminds me of the 70s when this was definitely 'a thing'...

I'm eyeing up my rather nice tablecloth now...

Homebird8 · 13/07/2018 07:47

My bed / bikini set was the 70s. Was it really a thing?

KlutzyDraconequus · 13/07/2018 07:53

That sounds like a money making opportunity...

Down the charity shops for any duvet covers they have, turn them into two dresses, sell on ebay... Profit...

You look fab op. :)
And I'm.glad I'm.not the only one with crap slung on my bannister. ;)

AsAProfessionalFekko · 13/07/2018 08:08

I remember loads if craft part work magazines and TV shows for craft, seeing, knitting ... Who didn't have a homemade beach cover up made from 2 old bath towels (not as advanced as a bikini though!)

Cheap clothing and lack of skills seems to have killed off making your own clothes. I remember learning how to use patterns and sewing a rather fetching wrap-around skirt in domestic science class in school!

I have a Fatface dress which looks incredibly similar to yours. I do believe you would have spent £40-odd for that in a shop. Brilliant.

Oldraver · 13/07/2018 10:49

There is a very similar dress on a side advert appeared

Isn't that what they are made for? Towel drying, bra airing, clothes-that-can-be-worn-later-in-the-week, and of course stuff-I-can't-be-bothered-to-take-downstairs-just-yet.

Sewing our own clothes is a dying art, but fabric is terribly expensive (hence the duvet cover!) compared to off the rack clothes. These days I will often just modify charity shop finds and the like. When I lost weight I took in a denim jacket, which was quite tricky but fun. I had to pull it apart at all the seams and reposition bust darts and everything.

You look lovely

I thought this was some odd Halloween thread. Want to actually see someone dressed as dobby😅

Thank you Yoda Wink

avocuddl · 13/07/2018 12:04

Love it! And like it with the belt that's on it. I wouldn't make a matching belt

Thebluedog · 13/07/2018 12:11

Looks fab!

Oldraver · 13/07/2018 12:33

Thank you Yoda

Sorry what does this mean ?

Lokide92 · 13/07/2018 12:42

Easy-breezy! I love it, was expecting a big kaftan/tent, but looks really neat with the tie waist.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/07/2018 13:40

Oldraver

Yoda (a character in Star Wars) says things in an unusual order, such as "very hot I am" or (actually from one of the films) “Powerful you have become, the dark side I sense in you.”

The "appeared" being at the end of your sentence just reminded me. Smile
