Help me dress for a minimoon in Paris

keeponmovin · 10/07/2018 12:10

Hi,

Already have this in chat, but nobody seems interested Sad Anyway.....

Going to Paris in a couple of weeks. Very excited, but I have nothing to wear! Really.

I don't want to dress 'Parisian'. I just want to look nice, without looking too try hard. Basically, I'd like to attempt 'effortless chic' grin if at all possible.

I'm a size 10, 5ft 8", high waisted and that actually makes buying clothes very hard, as most clothes for women are designed for a lower waist. I find anyway.

I would love some nice maxi and midi dresses and skirts. Skater or a line to balance out my shoulders, which are broader than my hips.

I want to feel comfortable, but still feel attractive and sexy. I'm on my honeymoon afterall! I have good legs, so wouldn't mind getting those out for the evening.

Budget is quite tight, so it needs to be high street, rather than designer.

TIA

Just giving this a bump Blush

Empire line is surely one of the easiest types of off-the peg maxi dress for shortwaisted but tall. Would you rule that out in favour of the skater/ a-line shape?

keeponmovin · 11/07/2018 10:54

penny, I wasn't even sure what empire line was! After a quick Google, it looks as though it would be perfect for me. Thank you Smile

I would hit the White Company sale. These might be suitable...

What’s a minimoon?

Perhaps people didn’t reply in chat because they don’t know what it is.

IwankaTramp · 11/07/2018 16:15

Plus take some comfortable yet smart trousers and a looser top

I Took it for a typo or a weekend short honeymoon.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/07/2018 18:58

Exactly what I was thinking!
Minimoon???

spotspot · 11/07/2018 19:50

Agree there's some perfect things in the White Company sale.

Congrats on your wedding OP and enjoy the mini moon Thanks

Posted a little too hastily: i meant to say: I'm high waisted too and it's really hard - I feel your pain!

Empire line dresses are quite handy for high waisters if you can find ones that aren't too bridesmaidy. I've got a really nice slim fit one that has three quarter length sleeves and a narrow tie under the bust. It's a free years old but from the brand Goldie London, in case you can find something similar. Or tube dresses. These aren't so flattering on me at the moment but they've been a good option in the past.

Alternatively t shirt dresses from Hush and Cos are good as they tend to be boxy round the middle thus waist position not a problem. And they'd look great on you as you are tall.

Comfortable shoes are a must as Paris involves a lot of walking and the Metro is very deep , although most normal (not me) use the escalator

Rogersnextdoublespartner · 12/07/2018 10:37

Yes to comfy shoes, I'd probably take trainers for the daytime.
I shredded my feet walking round Paris in loafers.

tentative3 · 12/07/2018 11:57

Can people really not hazard a guess as to what a 'minimoon' is from the contextual clues, including the fact that the OP later uses the word 'honeymoon'?

keeponmovin · 12/07/2018 12:42

Thanks for all the great recommendations so far!

Regarding the confusion with minimoon, I actually thought it was a common term now, but maybe not.

Actually hadn't thought about extra comfy shoes, so thank you for that!

Keep em coming Smile

I think these 3 dresses are lovely, and would suit your shape. I don’t know if you would like the colours and patterns though. What colours and patterns do you like?

They could easily be dressed up or down for day or evening by swapping trainers or comfortable sandals for heels, addition of a brighter lipstick, or by throwing on a leather/denim jacket.

What about shorts?

Warehouse has nice ones that actually cover your bum if tall.

Agree with leather or denim jacket. Some trainers & sandals.

Plural · 15/07/2018 08:28

So what is a mini moon then?

spotspot · 15/07/2018 18:42

There's lots of useful info about what constitutes a mini moon available here https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=minimoon&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

If the link doesn't work, just go to www.google.com and type in minimoon.

Hope that helps Smile

DuchessofManchester · 15/07/2018 18:47

I've recently purchased this it's really comfortable and very nice on. Go for classic little black dress at night. Enjoy your minimoon!

What is a mini moon?

LillianGish · 15/07/2018 19:30

It will be very hot in August, but I wouldn't wear shorts - you'll feel under-dressed. Paris is a capital city not a holiday resort. Wear comfy shoes and carry one of those Evian sprays and a fan to keep cool. The dresses posted on here look perfect.

Missbrick1 · 15/07/2018 19:36

You can wear shorts in capital cities without looking like your at a resort & plenty French people do.

Missbrick1 · 15/07/2018 19:40

At least my family does but yes they will be of the smarter, tailored variety & not show too much thigh.
