Help me dress for a minimoon in Paris

Hi,

Already have this in chat, but nobody seems interested Sad Anyway.....

Going to Paris in a couple of weeks. Very excited, but I have nothing to wear! Really.

I don't want to dress 'Parisian'. I just want to look nice, without looking too try hard. Basically, I'd like to attempt 'effortless chic' grin if at all possible.

I'm a size 10, 5ft 8", high waisted and that actually makes buying clothes very hard, as most clothes for women are designed for a lower waist. I find anyway.

I would love some nice maxi and midi dresses and skirts. Skater or a line to balance out my shoulders, which are broader than my hips.

I want to feel comfortable, but still feel attractive and sexy. I'm on my honeymoon afterall! I have good legs, so wouldn't mind getting those out for the evening.

Budget is quite tight, so it needs to be high street, rather than designer.

TIA

Well obviously some people do, but they tend to be tourists. Even my 17-year-old daughter says she feels under-dressed in hers.

Minimoon in Paris = quick flash of the bum on or near the Eiffel Tower??

The OP asked what to wear in Paris not how to dress like a Parisian. My family don’t get London fashion & when visiting they don’t all whip out a pair of Nike or Adidas trainers to fit it, the OP will look like a tourist no matter what in all likelihood. Personally I love a pair of nice tailored smart shorts but they are very hard to find, my favourite pair were bought in France.

LuMarie · 15/07/2018 19:55

I live here, the "Paris chic" look screams "tourist"!

Everyone is wearing flat and comfy shoes now, white trainer style things are everywhere.

It's underdressed didn't try hard french girl chic here at the moment and has been for a while. I love my high heels but if I wear them, I look weird.

Women are in simple summer dresses, not tailored shapes, demin cut off shorts and vest style top, flat shoes. Some longer dresses midi length again not tailored. Loose pretty blouses and denim shorts of jeans. Obvious designer is again obvious tourist.

Less is more chic.

It will likely be melting hot and yes, lots of walking, so cool things and comfy shoes, you'll be chic and fit right in.

Besides in August the majority of Parisians are on holiday & will not be in Paris but the South of the country. I will be there soon, can’t wait!

LuMarie · 15/07/2018 19:57

Em, what to wear in Paris and how to dress like a Parisienne (feminine), same thing!

LillianGish · 15/07/2018 19:58

I wasn't criticising shorts in general, but OP asked for effortless chic to feel glamorous on her honeymoon and I would suggest that however great the shorts look (my dd looks amazing in hers) she won't feel effortlessly chic she'll feel underdressed. It's an observation. Feel free to ignore.

Missbrick1 · 15/07/2018 20:02

LuMarie I assumed op
just wanted advice on what to wear for a hot city break perhaps I was wrong.

LillianGish I will stop my one woman shorts campaign 🤣🤣. It’s just because I love them & find them hard to find & as Im 5ft 9 short skirts are generally out. Sometimes I want my legs out.

LuMarie · 15/07/2018 20:04

There are about fifty thousand french people on the streets by my apartment at the moment, shorts are definitely effortless chic typical Paris! Not underdressed. Tailored shorts are almost overdressed! Depend on your age, I'm in my mid thirties, tailored is work wear, overdressed otherwise.

With a pretty blouse, or loose top and a cute bag and sunglasses, a loose skirt or denim cut offs, you have effortless chic paris style.

LillianGish · 15/07/2018 20:04

one woman shorts campaign Grin

Missbrick1 · 15/07/2018 20:07

This is my short style & smart for me. When I wear cut off denims my older French relatives are a bit judgy but tbf so is my Irish granny!

That's really lovely @Missbrick , effortless chic! Easily Parisienne. If you're tall this is a lovely look.

LillianGish · 15/07/2018 20:10

Today is not typical though - she has in fact worn shorts to go and watch the football (denim cut-offs) Grin.

LillianGish · 15/07/2018 20:11

I like that look Missbrick

Missbrick1 · 15/07/2018 20:13

Thank you. Not looking so chic with the podgy belly from DC2 cramping by style but that’s a whole other thread!

LuMarie · 15/07/2018 20:17

Well @Missbrick1 , that's why the blouse or top loose and floaty being chic and in style is useful!

At least you have an excuse, I've overdone the food and underdone the yoga, I'm now melting in my tighter than I intended clothes:)

Missbrick1 · 15/07/2018 20:21

🤣🤣

spugzbunny · 15/07/2018 22:20

Crikey. All these snidey bottom berets pretending they can't possibly work out what a minimoon is. It's a short honeymoon often before the actual honeymoon.

In my case, I'm calling mine a minimoon because we can only afford Cornwall so it gives the impression that we may go somewhere more fancy at a later date.
