Help me! The dreaded swim wear...

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 09:28

I’ve got to buy a swim suit and I’m not looking forward to it. It is for a weekend break where there is an outdoor pool but I’d like one which wouldn’t look strange at the local pool with dcs.

I am a tall, size 14 apple, with a bad mum tum at the moment. I’m losing weight and am not overweight, technically, but I don’t look good at all. In need of some serious toning, which I’m also working on.

Anywho, basically I need some serious corsetry in my swimsuit and it also needs to be long in the body as I am tall and get a wedgie if it’s too short. Not attractive.

I also need some decent bra support. I’m still feeding my 5mo, so have larger than normal boobs and they were fairly large to begin with!

Any tips for swimsuit shopping? Where should I go? Or can I just buy online? This would be so much easier.

Maybe a tankini with very good tummy control?

Any advice much appreciated.

Lands end do good suits with control & generous of bra area. I've also been impressed with Sainsbury's offerings recently

buckeejit · 03/07/2018 09:32

Re tankinis-maybe different for me as I'm very overweight but there was a bit of pulling down & adjusting that wasn't needed with a normal swimsuit, that I couldn't be faffed with

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 09:35

Thanks @buckeejit. I love your name btw. Are you from NI? My mum used to say it!

I’ll have a look at lands end. I can imagine the tankini too rolling up actually, now that you say that...

I am more or less exactly your shape and recommend For Luna. Their emerald swimsuit actually makes me feel a million dollars. It was recommended to me on here.

www.forluna.co.uk/products/the-jewel-emerald-green-retro-swimsuit

I have also got a couple of tummy control suits from M&S which are great and reasonably priced.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 09:37

Oh I love that! It’s out of stock or I’d buy it.

Will also check M&S. Thanks!

Ah shame, I didn't see it was out of stock.

This is my favourite M&S one in case it helps, it's very flattering.

Love For Luna ones, gorgeous on! Boden good too

frippit · 03/07/2018 10:07

My daughter belongs to a Facebook group who are all breastfeeding mum's. They all recommend clothes which are good for breastfeeding. She got her swim suit from their recommendations and is very pleased with it. I can't remember the name tho sorry!
It has a lace up front that can be altered to suit. It looks lovely on and she is also trying to lose her baby weight and mum tum. Will ask her and post back.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 10:32

Is it “can I breastfeed in it?” frippit? I’m not on fb sadly, so can’t see it!

I actually have to express milk as well so no longer bf directly. It’s a long and boring tale of woe! So I wouldn’t need boob access, just room for large, milk filled norks.

What do people think of this one please?

www.bravissimo.com/products/dynamic-sports-swimsuit-navycoral-sw365ncl/

From reviews it’s long in the body, which would suit me.

Hunter007 · 03/07/2018 10:49

It's nice but quite sporty looking imo.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 10:52

Hmmm yes it is rather. I need something with a highish neckline you see, as I’ll be chasing dcs around rather than sunbathing and drinking cocktails SadWink.

I hoped this sort of bridged the gap between sporty and pretty.

That For Luna one isn’t showing as out of stock for me (but £75!!)

Brendatheblender · 03/07/2018 10:54

Next do some nice control swimwear, I got a nice black and white leaopard print one this year and it does a good job of making me feel less like a beached whale

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 10:58

Hmmm I wouldn’t mind spending £75 if it suited me and was wearable on holiday and also at local pool, as I think price per wear would be good.

I might order the Bravissimo one and try it on. They do free returns. If it’s horrid, I’ll go and try some on in person . God it brings back my days as a very overweight teen, trying on swimsuits for holidays in the sun Sad. I bet men don’t have this problem.

Personally I prefer the For Luna one as I think the halter neck is great for bigger boobs and I like some glamour! But it depends on personal style a lot - I look weird in sporty things because I'm just so not sporty...

SoupDragon · 03/07/2018 11:16

I find a halter neck is more flattering too. I look squashed into sporty ones.

frippit · 03/07/2018 11:19

Hi, it was the bird print one from M and S. There's a few similar designs with lace up fronts. They start at £25 which seems a good price and are very flattering. Sorry can't post a link.

Rachel468 · 03/07/2018 12:53

For Luna are lovely, very like Norma Kamali but much cheaper! It’s my dream to buy a Norma someday but they’re about 300 quid

Uptheduffy · 03/07/2018 13:02

I tried on about a zillion M&S suits and have ended up with a really cheap one from Asda, which looks better than any others on me. It’s a blouson style so it looks a bit like a tankini set but it’s a suit. The top is loose (with a tighter top underneath) which is great for hiding my tummy.
There are various patterns. I may have bought 2!

GrumbleBumble · 03/07/2018 13:05

Rhubarb have you checked the for Luna for stock in different colours? And clocked that it says you need to size up if you are big of boobage?

Hunter007 · 03/07/2018 20:07

Defo size up in the For Luna ones - they're 'snug'! But I'm an E/F cup

Syppox2000 · 03/07/2018 20:12

You sound like you have a similar build to me . I spent ages searching for the perfect swimsuit and last year found figleaves own brand Were amazing . Now I just replace them with a new colour . Very flattering and a good price too !
This is the one I’ve just bought with removable straps

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 20:12

Thanks all. I’ve ordered the Bravissimo one, but I’m not holding out much hope that it will suit. I just like the boob coverage.

I’m normally a 34FF I think, though it may be 34G. My nursing bra is a 32HH! Will definitely size up then, if I decide to order one of the For Luna ones. I rather liked the yellow with navy and white stripes on there.

I think if I’m honest, I really need to go and try things on. It’s just finding the time... ok, ok and... I just don’t wanna !

Will try ASDA, M&S and Sainsbury’s. My nearest Bravissimo is a bit of a shlep.
