Help me! The dreaded swim wear...

I’ve got to buy a swim suit and I’m not looking forward to it. It is for a weekend break where there is an outdoor pool but I’d like one which wouldn’t look strange at the local pool with dcs.

I am a tall, size 14 apple, with a bad mum tum at the moment. I’m losing weight and am not overweight, technically, but I don’t look good at all. In need of some serious toning, which I’m also working on.

Anywho, basically I need some serious corsetry in my swimsuit and it also needs to be long in the body as I am tall and get a wedgie if it’s too short. Not attractive.

I also need some decent bra support. I’m still feeding my 5mo, so have larger than normal boobs and they were fairly large to begin with!

Any tips for swimsuit shopping? Where should I go? Or can I just buy online? This would be so much easier.

Maybe a tankini with very good tummy control?

Any advice much appreciated.

I went to a local lingerie shop and they fitted me with a lovely bikini. It was much easier as they had a whole selection and I stood there in the changing room saying ‘can’t bear stripes’ and the lady took the stripes away and brought beautiful alternatives. The result is one that fits very well, and is quite glam and funky.

I'm a size 14 apple but I'm short. I'm a 36e. I ditched the corsetry and got a really cheap tankini in sainsburys recently.

It's a halter style. It has high waisted briefs. It has a bright Paisley pattern and looks like a one piece. I have been told it's very flattering. I got a 16 top. It fits perfectly and it's the first piece of swimwear in ages I don't need to constantly adjust. I did have a lovely bikini from pour moi at asos which fit brilliantly but didn't wash well but this sainsburys one I'm really pleased with.

I got this recently and it has really good support and is a very flattering shape. Zoggs have some others with the same structure.

I hear you, body types can vary so much you HAVE to try things on - I just prefer to do it in my bedroom instead of those warm stuffy changing rooms with all that terrible lighting - I'm usually left suicidal after about five mins! LOL

Oh I’m dreading it @Hunter. I’ll start with the one I’ve ordered. I do like that Milano one posted^, but I would love something other than black tbh. I don’t really suit black, and I especially don’t suit it in swimwear as it seems to just bring out my pastiness and makes me look like a beach-goth Grin. Have you ever seen^ a goth in swimwear? I bet goths never wear swimsuits.

Hi Rhubarb I will ask my daughter. She's ebf her youngest so needed a cozzie for this x

OCSock · 04/07/2018 13:46

The Pool had a feature about cozzies for serious swimming with a couple of brands that were new to me a few days ago, and suggested some links. The wishlist started with staying put during exercise, which suggests that wrangling small children should be possible.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 04/07/2018 17:06

Thanks @OCSock. Yes, it needs to stay put rather than look glam really. But equally, I don’t really want to look heavily pregnant when I’m not! Those would be my top two. Oh and a bit of colour ideally.
