What do you wear to work in this weather?

I’m failing at summer work wear. Office based job, casual office, hellish commute (sweat box train and tube!) What are all stylish people wearing?

OP posts:
Gah81 · 24/06/2018 10:09

Sleeveless shift dresses, short sleeved silk blouse and cotton pencil skirts, loose silk tops over ankle-length trousers.

I always have a blazer with me in the office (navy goes with all the cream/rust/orange/mustard that I wear) which is air-conditioned to the nth degree!

Agree it is hard to look stylish on the London commute. The tube - ugh!

tierraJ · 24/06/2018 10:29

I have to wear my uniform of navy trousers & short sleeved pale blue tunic! I get very warm.

CaseStudyResearch · 24/06/2018 10:32

Gah - are any of your rust/mustard pieces new? It’s what I look best in, but struggling to find anything suitable currently.

Am I going to have to wait till autumn?!

Gah81 · 24/06/2018 10:59

I am the same, Casestudy - assume that means you are an Autumn?

Probably the only thing I have that is still in stock (and they do a variety of mustard/rust colours for lots of things) is my rust pencil skirt from www.vivienofholloway.com

CaseStudyResearch · 24/06/2018 14:11

I am indeed - rust, tomato red and mustard are my “top” colours.

Thanks, will have a browse. Now the battle of a summer wardrobe in light fabrics with autumn colours.

I'm a fellow tube commuter! :) I work in a no uniform office, so I'm currently wearing all of the summer dresses with either white trainers or pointed flats. Occasionally a pair of plissé culottes and a flowy blouse too.

makeupmaven · 24/06/2018 20:00

I work in fashion so I like to think I count as a stylish person. :)

WaitrosePigeon · 24/06/2018 21:51

Nurses uniform. Sweating my tits off.

peonylover22 · 25/06/2018 08:26

Just got on the Central Line 😫 I’m wearing a cream sleeveless silk top with a scoop neck (Reiss are fantastic for this sort of thing) and a teal pencil skirt, plus tan sandals. Will swap sandals for heels and add a jacket once at work

NaiceTornHamstring · 25/06/2018 08:32

I'm wondering this myself. I just can't do it. I don't 'glow', I sweat, so would generally reach for black in this heat. I also don't feel comfortable showing my legs or arms at work. So I have no options, do I? I've actually opted to work from home today rather than brave the Northern Line in 30 degree heat.

Bellabutterfly2016 · 25/06/2018 08:32

Love linen but look a mess after about 2 minutes!!!!!

Loving all the mustard coloured things too.

Looking forward to the sales go uodate on some summer statement pieces!

thedevilinablackdress · 25/06/2018 13:18

Not in London/on sweaty public transport but I do have a longish walk to work - wear a plain t-shirt on the way in and change into another top on arrival.

silverpenguin · 25/06/2018 13:57

All about floaty dresses in this heat!

Underparmummy · 25/06/2018 14:02

Cotton shirt dresses, sandals.

pinkmagic1 · 25/06/2018 14:03

Trousers and a horrible sweaty polyester blouse (uniform).

theunsure · 25/06/2018 14:05

Jersey maxi dresses (capped sleeve) with a print and sandals.

Or lightweight peg trousers with a loose fitting smart t-shirt.

I am usually more business like but relax that when it is nearer 30 degrees.

sugarbum · 25/06/2018 14:06

I'm wearing a sainsburys sundress and fitflops
But I'm not stylish Smile

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 25/06/2018 14:08

It's all about floaty these days. My office is very hot today.

I'm wearing a metallic linen t-shirt from JCrew, it's nude with golden thread, it looks OK and not evening-wear in the heat, plus blue silk skirt from Other Stories. Flat black sandals and sunglasses.

I love dressing in the summer, no layering, no components, I'm done in minutes.

Xiaoxiong · 25/06/2018 14:11

I have a few pairs of light weight trousers from Uniqlo which I mix and match with silk, linen or viscose tops. The ravello tops from Boden work well and don't need to be tucked in. Also I went to M&S yesterday and got a navy blue linen shift dress which will be perfect for the commute, I may go back and buy it in white as well!

I have stashed a navy and a white blazer in the office and a few pairs of proper shoes under my desk so I can smarten up any outfit if I need to see a client.

welshmist · 25/06/2018 14:12

Floaty dresses and croc flip flops. Carry smarter shoes for office.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 25/06/2018 15:56

Floaty dress with black shorts underneath (I work in a Foodbank and have to go up in the loft regularly)

Cheerbear23 · 25/06/2018 22:44

Bright or patterned Sleeveless linen shirts with 7/8 trousers and woven sandals.

Cheerbear23 · 25/06/2018 22:45

Disclaimer - I may not be stylish! Grin I've also got some next culottes which are fab.

JaceLancs · 25/06/2018 22:49

Sleeveless shift dresses
Lots of linen
Linen shirt dresses
Thin ankle grazers with sleeveless linen tops
Floaty sheer tops with tube skirts

YolandiFuckinVisser · 25/06/2018 22:52

Same as in winter. The air con is ferocious in my office!
