I’m failing at summer work wear. Office based job, casual office, hellish commute (sweat box train and tube!) What are all stylish people wearing?

I've got this on today, with flat silver sandals and silver jewellery. I bought it at the weekend and it's so comfortable I'm tempted to get it in another colour. It's the sort of style that I lean towards when it's hot - I've got several dresses which are a similar shape. Otherwise I wear culottes with a sleeveless top. I try to stick to a fairly neutral palette (navy/black/grey/white with the odd bit of tan/caramel thrown in) although yesterday I was in work in a sleeveless tomato red midi dress from H & M with ballet pumps.

My office is 25 degrees today, which I find quite comfortable. I'm wearing a blue floaty dress with sleeves to elbow (It's a little bit Kate Middleton engagement dress!)

It's forecast to be hotter tomorrow onwards so I have a short sleeve loose black dress for tomorrow, a grey short sleeved kneed length dress for Thursday (tighter but still very comfy) and a navy linen dress for Friday.

dameofdilemma · 26/06/2018 13:26

If you can show your legs then there are plenty of knee length, short sleeve dresses in neutral tones around.

Its a lot trickier if you need to cover your legs. Fake tan has made flawless skin a norm and ordinary skin can look blemished in comparison.

Maxi dresses or long skirts can look a bit too casual in a semi formal office. Wide leg trousers can be ok (especially on the tall and slim) but some of the styles (paper bag waist, bulkier fabric) need a very fitted, tucked in top half which isn't exactly cooling...

halfwitpicker · 26/06/2018 13:30

Short sleeved dresses, bronze sandals with a low heel.

Iamblossom · 26/06/2018 13:35

today I have on a pair of silver flat sling backs, pointy style front - New Look

Light grey suit trousers, three quarter length - Oasis

Sleeveless cream blouse with applique flowers tucked in - M&Co, bought it in red as well, had them for years and I wear them to work every summer, very pretty

MargoLovebutter · 26/06/2018 13:35

Summer dress, with short sleeves, so still smart & officey and always wear sheer tights. I do not understand how people think bare legs is cooler. If I have bare legs the skin touches and I find it gets sweaty and uncomfortable. If I wear sheer tights by legs don't feel sweaty at all and I feel much cooler.

The tube at rush hour is like the seventh circle of hell in this weather, so if at all possible adjust working hours, work from home, walk more - anything really to avoid the tube, specially the ones that run overground as they are literally like ovens, stuffed full of partially baked humans. If animals were transported like that, the owners would be prosecuted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tweedles1511 · 26/06/2018 14:32

Natural materials a must! Anything poly / viscose makes for a sweat fest.

I'm living in loose organic cotton and the odd bit of cheap silk that I've found - take a look at sale stuff on Gather&See .

Jellylover · 26/06/2018 17:24

Pants, bra, sleeveless shift dress.

hammeringinmyhead · 26/06/2018 17:29

Black maxi dress and rose gold sandals; floaty patterned harem trousers, black vest and black leather sandals; and today cropped black floaty trousers and an olive green top. I'm 20 weeks pregnant so options are limited!! I was wearing maternity dungarees with vest tops and trainers with a pointed toe last week, but it's too warm.

CountFosco · 26/06/2018 19:04

I live up north so it's not as hot as London. I wore widelegged navy linen/cotton trousers with a gingham cotton shirt (I think it's suppose to be 'crisp' but I haven't ironed for years) and trainers yesterday. The trainers were a mistake. Today was a bit cooler so I wore a sleeveless broderie anglaise shirt, grey cotton ankle skimmers and leopard print slipper pumps. Navy cotton shirt dress tomorrow. It's all about the linen and cotton!

peachypetite · 26/06/2018 19:06

Shirt dresses and midi dresses with leather sandals. Oasis have a huge sale on and I got loads of dresses.

Namechangeforhair · 26/06/2018 19:10

I desperately need stylish summer clothes. Where is good for summer dresses? Happy to get legs out!

JMAngel1 · 26/06/2018 19:21

So are you all bronzed, de.fuzzed and sandal ready? All these outfits sound gorgeous but exhausting or are you all naturally tanned with perfect feet? I was agog at a mum on the school run thjs morning - she had a gorgeous coral high lo shift dress with flat sandals and she just looked effortless. I was pale, hairy and disgusting of feet and was sweating away in my trainers and gym gear.

Gah81 · 26/06/2018 19:59

Today I wore a pale yellow pencil skirt plus a silk short-sleeve blouse tucked in (plus ubiquitous navy blazer). Taupe heels and bag.

I don't do tanning (real or fake) and don't paint my nails (I just buff, trim, moisturise and use a chiropodist sponge frequently) but otherwise I am usually not too lax on the grooming front! As a redhead, I do look exceedingly pale in comparison to everyone around me but it's so much less hassle :)

GrumpyOldMare · 26/06/2018 20:08

Uniform of white shirt, black trousers, black apron, black hat and steel toe capped shoes.
It's a little warm, specially if you get put on hot counter! (restaurant)

CountFosco · 27/06/2018 08:06

So are you all bronzed, de.fuzzed and sandal ready?

Not bronzed, but very freckly! I shave my legs about once a fortnight in the summer and never the rest of the year. Foot wise I wear sensible flats do no bunions. Apart from that I use flexitol heel balm which isamazing stuff, I use to get terrible bleeding cracks in my feet but no more, my feet look gorgeous!

Iamblossom · 27/06/2018 11:27

I'm not bronzed but am freckly! I would never wear shorts or skirts in hot weather if I hadn't fake tanned before, but have honestly got over this and now embrace my pale skin!

I do shave my legs, but don't really need to as Hair is very pale.

I do moisturise my legs every day and feet, nothing worse than flaky skin.

dueanotherchange · 27/06/2018 11:32

I've got this on today with nude heels. It's really comfy and lovely and cool.

No tights - I also moisturise my legs every day.

Peachydream · 27/06/2018 11:43

In a very relaxed office environment & I am wearing this today, Its much longer on me as I am quite short- even have the same sandals on (coincidence).

My colleague has a sleeveless loose blouse & knee length linen skirt on.

DaisyRenton18 · 28/06/2018 08:38

Really floaty skirts - usually from Monsoon sales about fifteen years ago but still looking nice!

Then a simple sleeveless top (but wide shoulders, work requirement). Usually stick to black or white because my skirts are often quite patterned. I have a lot of shift dresses too, but find the floaty skirts much cooler. I make sure my legs are epilated but don't bother with fake tan. I am blue but don't care, to be honest. Will fake tan for holidays etc. but not work. I don't want to be brown on Monday and blue by Friday every week.

Gah81, that sounds like a really lovely outfit.
