Omfg... crocs or birkenstocks! I need your help!!

GoofyBollox · 22/06/2018 13:33

I live in faded black skinny jeans, trainers and plain t-shirts. Trying to develop a tiny sense of style now but my summer shoe collection consists of crocs and birkenstocks. Wtf? And I'm still in my twenties just... Usual stock excuse about years of pregnancy, breastfeeding outfits, baby puke blah blah blah.
Anyway, change is desparatrely needed. Budget is limited. I can't walk in heels and not a fan of ballet pumps. I like shoes/sandals with a 'side' as I have wide feet.
Any ideas for casual summer footwear that ticks the boxes?

Check out some sandals in Clark’s. I found a lovely pair there, not frumpy at all, and so comfy on my wide feet. Don’t write them off !

goose1964 · 22/06/2018 22:30

Pavers, my DD loved some of the styles there but they were all too wide for her

Fairylea · 23/06/2018 07:53

Nothing wrong with birkenstocks! Maybe just get a new pair in some of the new season styles / colours? You don’t need to change your style if you love them. Some really nice trendy ones on asos and schuh.

Boredboredboredboredbored · 23/06/2018 08:00

Birkenstocks are really trendy and versatile I think, come in lots of colours and can be worn with lots of different outfits. Crocs don't even go there.

Someone recommended these a few weeks ago. Bought a pair; they are comfy, the wedge is very small, but come up slightly large I think.

I have wide feet. I live in these come summer.

Crocs sexi flip. Feel stylish still. Super plain so go with everything. And beyond comfy.

Dont have sides but go right up your feet so feel very secure.

This thread is full of the ugliest footwear I've ever seen.

OP, some converse-type trainers would suit that black jeans/T-shirt outfit, surely? Primary have them for £7.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/06/2018 16:02

Converse are really narrow and have bugger all arch support. (But I wear them loads because I have skinny feet)
I notice people with wide feet with the sides of the foot bulging the uppers.
Vans are a bit wider.

My DD got some Schuh own brand Birkie types (non leather) she really likes them but of course they stain bare feet .

This thread is full of the ugliest footwear I've ever seen,,,,comfort is key and if your feet are painful, it shows in your face as well as affect your whole body
.

caterpuller · 23/06/2018 16:04

Oh god sooo ugly all of those!!! Sorry everyone. Crocs - no no no never ever!!!! Birkenstocks yes, and also trainers (light ones for summer, maybe white converse when it's not sweltering). I have a couple of pairs of Saltwaters - one pair of the shark originals and a few pairs of the regular originals in different colours. Lotta from Stockholm peep toe clogs are really comfy even though they aren't completely flat - I have silver ones.

I forgot these too, Natural World pumps. Joules sell them but they are available elsewhere and I usually pick them up on sale for half price. I have a few colours.

never, never, never ever crocs, unless you are under 10

GoofyBollox · 23/06/2018 16:39

Oooh thank you everyone! Links are brilliant, I will look at them all when I have a free second later. I hate my feet so much that shoe shopping is not something I enjoy!!
Any other suggestions welcome...

I have wide feet and get moshulu sandals - less sweaty than Birkenstocks as they’re all leather.

mumtav · 23/06/2018 16:44

Toms for pump type or Salt Water Sandals for open toe xx

ApolloandDaphne · 23/06/2018 16:45

My stylish and hip 20 yo student DD stole my black birkies and makes them look effortlessly cool. Crocs however are terrible!

habibihabibi · 23/06/2018 16:46

The holes in crocs are for your dignity to ooze out .
These birkenstocks are lovely but tricky to find in this colour

Whoever said this thread is full of the ugliest footwear ever is bang on.

I always imagine MNetters to be relatively stylish and then people wax lyrical about a shoe and I’m like 😬

I live in flip flops, Converse and Vans. If I wear sandals they are inevitably fashion type ones that you can’t hike in but are perfectly functional otherwise. New Look have a couple of nice leather pairs that come in wide fitting and are less middle aged than some of those linked up thread to —sexy Crocs—

I got these recently in fuscia. Very comfy, I prefer sandals that have a proper back as straps cut my feet. The suede is really soft and they’re elastic so should fit wide feet.

ElspethFlashman · 23/06/2018 16:48

I have those Crocs sexi flip and they are quite foxy on, you'd never know they were Crocs. Cheap too. And moulded underfoot.

Testarossa1 · 23/06/2018 16:56

I have these on at the moment, kaydee sling back crocs. Super comfy!

God there's some patronising types on this thread! Perhaps some of you should come down from your ivory towers and realise that many people have wide feet or foot issues that mean that the standard MN items of Toms, Converse or Saltwaters might not be either wide enough or supportive enough and that alternatives are essential. I can't wear any of those and am often restricted to "ugly" footwear. It's not my choice at all but needs must and OP (and others like myself) should be able to canvas opinions for suitable alternatives without being attacked for crimes again fashion.

OP, Crocs flip flops are worth a look, as are Fitflop ones. Moshulu also have some good options. Also worth checking Hotter for wide fitting pumps.

GoofyBollox · 23/06/2018 19:22

Having a flick through... I absolutely love this birkenstocks sandals. Strap wise that is completely the sort of thing I'm after!! And they're girls, win win!! Yes also to checking out new look wide fit range- never ever go in there these days but I know they won't break the bank at least Smile!
Thanks, you style lot are very kind!
