Epilating one's armpits

PollyEthel · 21/06/2018 18:54

Why the fuckety fuck did I think this would be a good idea?!?!?

Now I have done one armpit, and am trying to persuade myself to even things out by doing the other but it really hurts.

Such a prat.

How bad is it?! I do my legs and arms and can cope with the pain.. would love to do my armpits but petrified!

PollyEthel · 21/06/2018 18:57

I'm doing it in ten second bursts. The only good thing is it doesn't take very long.

It hurts like a bastard but totally worth it.

Not having to shave everyday and re growth is soft and not prickly. No itchy arm pits and dark shadows.

Put on your big girl pants and get other one done.

TheFifthKey · 21/06/2018 18:59

It’s the most painful thing EVER the first time. However, it hurts drastically less each tome after and now (after some years!) I have to do it about once every two weeks, it takes seconds and it doesn’t hurt one little bit. And no shadow under my arms, ever.

PollyEthel · 21/06/2018 19:00

I keep reminding myself of the longer term "benefits". Definitely having a drink when I'm done!

I've done it for 15 years. I basically only now have to do it every 3-4 weeks. My tip is shave it first time then and start epilating 2 days later DONT let the hair get long. That's when it hurts like a bastard.

PollyEthel · 21/06/2018 19:09

Too late... it was quite long!

All done now. Feels smooth, and once the blood spots die down, should be perfect for a weekend of parties!

You're brave! I gave up and now just wax them after a few stiff G&Ts.

AssumethePerpendicular · 21/06/2018 19:23

Hurt a lot the first time, did it over several days! Now I doesn’t hurt at all and my legs are worse Hmm

ChishandFips33 · 21/06/2018 19:24

Absolutely worth doing

My hair is quite coarse and hurt like hell the first time but now it's so much finer and I barely feel anything

I do it every few days so it's 'staggered' and only pulling bits out at a time

Would love to do bikin area but can't bring myself to do it!

HuckfromScandal · 21/06/2018 19:27

It is so worth persevering with
I can go weeks without thinking about my underarms
The hair is so fine and hardly there for me now.

Pebblespony · 21/06/2018 19:42

I'm a wimp. Still shaving but really need to give myself a talking to. It's so much hassle and looks awful.

bruffin · 21/06/2018 19:44

Take a painkiller then eait 20 minutes and have a go again.

ProjectGainsborough · 21/06/2018 20:21

Oh Christ am I going to have to start doing this?

I do my legs and bikini line but I’ve only ever once brought the thing near my armpits. The agony!

Is it really better?

poppym12 · 21/06/2018 20:28

I do my legs and bikini line but I can't face doing my armpits. I had them waxed once, many years ago, and I ended up with bleeding and bruises. Is epilating pits as bad as waxing them?

babybrainusedtobesmart · 21/06/2018 20:41

I once did my pubes. NEVER, EVER again

runwithme · 21/06/2018 20:51

Watching with interest. Did you DIY or go to a salon? How often and when do you start getting results? I can never get a smooth finish with razoring, and I HATE the darkness of it all

apparently · 21/06/2018 20:56

i used to put talc on first, i don't know why but it did help the pain a bit

IRememberSoIDo · 21/06/2018 20:56

Can I jump in and ask for recommendations? Also, can one do ones chin as I appear to be turning into the bearded lady all of a sudden.....love hormones :-/

Pebblespony · 21/06/2018 20:59

Good God. Wincing at the thought of emulating pubes Shock

Pebblespony · 21/06/2018 21:00

Epilating GrinBlush

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 21/06/2018 21:02

Use conditioner as a kind of shaving gel for epilator, helps a lot.

But it will be a cold day in hell before I do my bikini line.

PollyEthel · 21/06/2018 21:18

Ooh, I would have thought the conditioner would make the epilator slide off the hairs - interesting.

I did use talc on my second armpit. It did help a bit.

It wasn't comfortable, but wasn't too bad - probably same as waxing but for a bit longer - mainly because I was a coward and kept stopping and starting...

ChishandFips33 · 24/06/2018 06:35

Bit the bullet and had a crack at the bikini line
Gah it hurt but figured with every turn of those nippers of torture it would get easier - kinda worked Hmm Mind over matter???

For those who do bikini and arms...can you reassure that it becomes as painless the more you stick at it?

GorgonLondon · 24/06/2018 07:22

I did the bikini line, it hurt like fuck and i got a horrible lump thing that still hasn't quite gone away. 0/10 would not recommend
