Do I grunge/rock my wedding dress?

Hi guys,

Finally picked my wedding dress. I have silver Gina strappy sandals to wear with it............but I'm so tempted to grunge/rock it up change the sash to a belt and wearing a leather jacket.

If I were to do that what shoes? I don't want to regret wearing the wrong shoes.

Or shall I leave as is?

(Ps the dress is big and needs taking in)

I wore DMs with my wedding dress. They were the same colour as my bridesmaids dresses.
I felt like I was wearing slippers all day, danced for hours and regret nothing.
And I'm still getting use out of them to this day (and the DM shop gave my 10% off when I mentioned what they were for)

Love your dress. It's stunning

Notevilstepmother · 14/06/2018 18:42

With a dress that long you can wear anything you like on your feet. I’d suggest something comfortable as you will be on your feet all day.

I like the silver waist personally, I’d leave the dress alone and have a few photos after with the leather jacket.

Are you set on having white roses? I think really dark red almost black roses would look stunning and contrast really well and be a bit more rock look.

If you want to change it up in a masculine way but still keep it different as its for a wedding - you could try looking at wedding dresses styled crossed with grooms clothing in a new romantic way.

I used to be "in the biz" and had a bride do this with a similar style dress.

Added a top hat, Victorian style boots and a shortened sort of bolero version of tails - it looked AMAZING!

More kinda steampunk style?

Could replace the silver sash with a red cummerbund ? Splash of colour? But a dark autumnal red?

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 14/06/2018 18:56

so cool. I love it

Graphista · 14/06/2018 18:59

I agree a dark red verging on black single or 2? Roses in the bouquet could make all the difference or more angular flowers in the main bouquet with 1 or 2 red roses.

choppolata · 14/06/2018 19:07

Rock it for sure! You can order white New Rock boots in pretty much all the styles. I'd be inclined to write 'Bride' on the jacket in studs too. You will look great!!

fearfultrill · 14/06/2018 19:21

I would grunge it up in the evening! And then have photos taken both ways. Then you have the fun grungy photos and some classy more traditional ones.

Slanetylor · 14/06/2018 19:38

In October you’ll need a jacket so it’s a perfect time of year for that jacket! I’d love doc martens to complete the look. But honestly I just love “ pretty” for weddings so would stick with the heels really. I do think the jacket and deep red roses, as suggested , would be edgy enough for your wedding day. And lots of eyeliner!

Oldraver · 14/06/2018 19:54

I love the dress...I'd be so tempted by a silver sparkly leather biker style jacket

LadyOfTheCanyon · 14/06/2018 20:59

I'm rather partial to something like this....

Look up Shoodle on Facebook...the shoe designs look amazing.

Candyflip · 14/06/2018 21:09

My sister got married in the 90s and wore dms under her typical frothy dress. But then again, I think everyone did in the 90s because they were trying to be unconventional.

Racheyg · 14/06/2018 23:04

Thanks all.

I actually have quite a few pairs of dms so if I do decide to grunge it up I have the option.

And I will definitely by a new leather jacket.......all saints here I come.

I'm on the fence about the belt, I'm not very glittery or into sparkly stuff so I may change that up.

You guys are so nice with the compliments about the dress xx

I think changing the belt for a plain black ribbon would look great and maybe a veil hat like this style?

I saw this jacket in Whistles the other day, might not be your thing but I thought it was really different (looked better than these pictures). www.whistles.com/women/clothing/coats-jackets/macrame-leather-jacket-27827.html?cgid=CoatsJackets_Clothing_WW&dwvar_macrame-leather-jacket-27827_color=Black#start=0

EnidButton · 14/06/2018 23:30

I love the leather jacket with a wedding dress thing. I think it would work better if you kept the belt as it is, it would be a good contrast. There's a risk doing too many things will spoil the effect. Gorgeous dress btw.

What does your tattoo say?

Skittlesandbeer · 14/06/2018 23:33

There are Docs with flowers on them?

ComtessedeLancret · 14/06/2018 23:37

Your dress is gorgeous! For my first wedding I had a lovely traditional dress but put my “style” into my hair and makeup and shoes, so I went with a rockabilly hairstyle and makeup and had the most gorgeous sapphire blue satin heels so I still felt like “me” - also I can wear my heels whenever, lord knows I’d have trashed anything white..

mothmother · 14/06/2018 23:41

A deep red silky satin belt would look classy but also quite rock, I think, if you had DMs etc

BlondeB83 · 14/06/2018 23:47

It’s a pretty dress but looking at you I would definitely rock it up! It would suit you.

Everywhereilookaround · 14/06/2018 23:51

Wear whatever makes you feel amazing. It's your day. I went in red. Who cares what others think. Fashion comes and goes, be yourself.

For the person that said you will look back and cringe...pah rubbish. The only thing I look back and cringe about is that I toned my day down to fit with convention.

Ps your dress is fabulous, have a great day!!

HildaZelda · 14/06/2018 23:58

I think it's beautiful. I'd definitely leave it like that but I'd go with funky shoes. Something from Irregular Choice maybe?

Serendipite · 15/06/2018 00:34

YES!

Dr Martens and Leather Jacket. During the ceremony, remove the jacket. Then wear it outside.

I agree. You will look back and will smile remembering you wore a leather jacket and DMs to your wedding!
