What do fat people wear?

I’ve lost my way a bit, I’m very fat and living in jeggings and t-shirts and quite frankly boiling in this heat!

I’ve been looking at what other mums in the playground around my age and size and loose/lightweight patterned trousers with a plain top seemed popular so I’ve got myself some against my better judgment. They’re pretty loud and not something I’d usually wear but thought I looked ok. That was until my kids saw me and pissed themselves laughing. Argh!

What the hell am I supposed to wear??!

I'm an 18/20 and I consider myself too big. I'm losing weight though. I wear a lot of maxi dresses. Also a good fitting pair of jeans and some longer tops might help. I live in leggings too and usually pair them with my shorter dresses or tops that cover my bum. I stay away from skinny jeans because my knees are misshapen so they look weird. Well fitting clothes will help.

Seasalt have some nice trousers with soft waistbands which are great.

Wear what you feel comfortable in, and what you think suits you. Don't let what you think other people think about you or what you are wearing to define you. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things.

Following with interest.

I'm the same size and shape - bigger on bottom

Currently I wear leggings with converse and a long over bum vest top and another long top as a top layer

No idea if I look a state or ok though

I'm an 18-20 and short. I wear linen trousers in a neutral colour and a plain or co-ordinating patterned top that comes to the hip. If slightly cooler weather maybe a sleeveless top with a loose shirt over. Trousers are loose but not mega-wide so I don't look like I'm wearing a tent (M&S ones fit me well). I do have some patterned trousers but I think plain ones are smarter.

Otherwise I wear a long skirt with a slightly more fitted top. Or knee length patterned jersey dresses that are fitted at bust with a more flared skirt. I find leggings or jeans too hot in summer (I'm sure being fat makes me feel hotter!).

@amazonianwoman I can’t see a dress on the link but it’s called oversized babydoll dress (I think!) I got it in xl and it’s HUgE

amazonianwoman · 13/06/2018 20:33

Oops link fail! I've found the babydoll dress though thanks Kenworthington. Love it but not sure if long enough? I'm 5ft 9. Might order the green, deffo my colour Smile

Kenworthington · 13/06/2018 21:27

amazonianwoman I’m 5’8, it’s a fine length on me/ about low thigh, longer st the back because it kind of droops

RadioDorothy · 13/06/2018 21:35

Well I'm 14 and a half stone but I'm a size 18/20 as I'm short and have broad arms/shoulders.

I'm actually fat from ankle to face so have difficulty finding something stylish - I look like a wrestler in everything. I go for loose fit boxy, floaty tops over a bright white vest and harem pants in the summer. Or a woven vest that doesn't cling. I have a rectangle shape so anything waisted just looks hideous, I avoid elasticated waists or waist ties and try to get something loosely fitted that skims. I don't mind shift dresses, I have some of those.

Deathraystare · 14/06/2018 09:27

I am a 18/20 apple shape. I always wear trousers as I could not stand the thigh rub business anymore. Today I am wearing M&S peachy colour jeggings and a printed top long sleeve with asymmetric hem black background /sunflowers or something like in foreground. I no longer wear black from head to toe as I am no longer a ninja(!). I just think I would still be fat but very hot and cross! I prefer to have some colour in my life now!

Deathraystare · 14/06/2018 09:30

One of the porters has (jokingly) asked why I am wearing all orange? I have a coral bag (Kipling) and my M&S peachy colour jeggings on. He said I should only wear orange if I am going to Portugal!! I am unlikely to afford a day trip to the Isle of Wight this year so Portugal is deffo not happening!!

Applepudding2018 · 16/06/2018 00:38

My clothes for normal British summer are

Jersey harem trousers - plain / geometric/ subtle pattern with v neck slightly boxy T shirts low hip length

Navy leggings with tunic top / short dress on top (again mainly jersey fabric)

jersey fabric maxi dress in slight A line shape (non clingy)

SleepingStandingUp · 16/06/2018 00:46

Leggings with denim or cord skirt, pain tips. Primark have surprisingly decent leggings with a good crotch to waist length.

Knee length shorts with baggy top. Might not be the height of fashion but its preferable to sore inner thigh rub

SnartyFartBlast · 16/06/2018 01:16

ASOS have some lovely empire line maxi dresses which skim over my hideous mum tum. And chamois cream for the chub rub, sorts it out nicely.
