Dress help Wanted for tall larger ladies Debenhams Principles North

saltedliquorice · 06/06/2018 23:26

Hello lovely Mumsnetters I am after a dress for a special event I am 6ft tall and trying to loose weight frantically but I am still a portly size 22.

I really like the two dresses below but they are out of stock in my size and my local Debenhams only has them in a 20 which ashamedly won’t fasten. Please could I ask anyone in the north/north west or Scotland as far as Edinburgh Glasgow if their local store has either of these dresses in, in a 22 please? If you let me know I can phone the store and then visit as they won’t transfer. Many thanks

Or failing that has anyone seen anything similar style midi length or maxi as long as these, cut style that would fit a tall cat person such as myself please? I prefer to hide my knees ( I love coral, jade green, red, purple, yellow).

I have exhausted Dorothy Perkins, Monsoon, Phase 8/Studio and Long Tall Sally, ASOS Tall.

Many thanks

M&S surprisingly
Floral

BigFatBloomers · 07/06/2018 01:50

Chesca
A beautiful one on Amazon but I can't tell if it's from China or not

BigFatBloomers · 07/06/2018 01:57

Another amazon. It actually says that these are made to order in India and the few reviews that they have are very good.

saltedliquorice · 07/06/2018 06:43

Ooh I like the Amazon one it depends on fit and whether it will meet but they do se m to do it in tall and plus size so I will definitely investigate this one. I think the Debenhams ones have a slight stretch, good length and cut so looked quite flattering but wouldn’t quite fasten.

Hi saltedliquorice
you might have tried this already but still letting you know.....Once i wanted a dress ok my size my local Debenhams checked it on the System and then called to hold a dress while i could pick it up ...

saltedliquorice · 07/06/2018 08:06

ShopoholicIn - thanks I asked in store and they referred me to online which was out of stock in my size. I phoned them and they checked the two stores nearest me and nothing they refused to check any other stores for me. :-(

Can you do click and collect? If it's on the web site you can get it delivered to your local store. You could even order both and try them both on in the fitting room ( my local store has a fitting room especially for online orders). You can then return the one you don't want.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 07/06/2018 08:07

Oops, cross posted, sorry

MrsSlocombesPussy · 07/06/2018 08:08

Can you order direct from Principles?

saltedliquorice · 07/06/2018 08:28

Unfortunately it’s out of stock online ShopoholicIn or I definitely would have done that and the Debenhams sale prices were quite reasonable as I’m not really a dress wearer or event goer and trying to loose weight.
Unfortunately with the Eshaki dress I am between sizes.
I can’t find details for Principles Direct does anyone have these?

I have just rang Debenhams and the lady said she had checked another for stores for me and nothing. :-(

My knowledge was of date. Unfortunately it looks like Principles doesn't exist outside of Debenhams these days.

Try Scarlett and Jo

www.scarlettandjo.com/

saltedliquorice · 07/06/2018 23:32

Thanks unfortunately the tall collection on Scarlett & Jo is very limited. A lot of the dresses look like skirts with black tops. A tight fitting red dress which wouldn’t suit my tummy and I don’t like the other dress which looks very unflattering on the model. I don’t know what I am going to wear and I need something nice that I like and feel good in by next Friday. I had a few options in things ordered but they either didn’t fit or I didn’t like myself in them when they arrived.

Sorry to hear you’re having such a hard time to find something you like salted.

Would you consider getting a maxi and having it hemmed to a midi length?

There are a couple here and here that would look lovely shorter.

Alternatively, are separates a possibility?

goose1964 · 08/06/2018 11:00

this site has a number of dresses in the tall plus size range

goose1964 · 08/06/2018 11:06

how about this
www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_120010234605_-1

I have a similar print from lindybop but my flowers are smaller it's gorgeous

saltedliquorice · 08/06/2018 21:41

Thanks all. I wasnt keen on the high waists at Fatfrocks as they look like they might emphasise my big tummy. I liked the Debenhams Poppy one but the reviewer had to size up two sizes and 24 out of stock. I have ordered two new ones from ASOS curve tonight fingers crossed and returning another one back to Dorothy Perkins Tall as it wasn’t flattering or dressy enough.

I have some empire (ISH) line dresses and if they are pleated correctly they skin over rather than emphasis the belly

saltedliquorice · 08/06/2018 23:24

Thanks for all your help today goose. I have tried several and my tummy starts to stick out more than it should from just under my boobs so the empire line just makes my tummy look even worse. I used to be very skinny when younger which makes it worse but now with a number of health issues and getting older it’s a real struggle loosing weight and I so wanted to wear something I felt good in that I liked the style and colours of for this special event i’m attending. I haven’t even got anything I could make do.

Have you looked in Monsoon? I'm 5' 9" and apple shaped, and a lot of their stuff suits me. I bought loads of dresses at the Cheshire Oaks outlet a while back, although I appreciate that's hit and miss. Also Wallis is cut forgivingly and might work. Some of my Wallis stuff is even petite, which I most certainly am not.

keepmoving · 09/06/2018 06:35

Have you looked in phase 8? Some of their dresses go up to a size 26. As a fellow 6', some of their dresses come up long and have worked for me. What about one of these?

One more for you - Boden go up to 22 and do tall lengths.

How about this one m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-dresses/day-dresses/w0094-nav/womens-navy-jade-dress

saltedliquorice · 09/06/2018 14:55

Thanks I think the phase 8 one with the embroidery looks lovely and classy but the dark colours would drain me. I’m less keen on the other one as I didn’t want it to look I was wearing a top and skirt or have the black colour so close to my face. I like the Navy Boden one.
I might order that one. This is exhausting!!
