If you were going away for 10 days to Greece...

what would you pack?

It's been a good 2 years since we last went away and my summer clothes really had already past their best before dates before then, so i'm starting with nothing.
I've always been one to over pack, but as i'm starting from scratch I don't really have that problem. But I don't know what I should be going out getting.

I've fallen out with the rest of my wardrobe so nothing I can use from there either...

Thank you!

When are you going?

Iamblossom · 29/05/2018 18:14

If in the summer I would take;

5 bikinis (I have loads)
2-3 pairs shorts
2-4 nice t-shirts
2 pairs of sandals (one day one evening) and some comfy trainers if planning to walk
Beach towel
Some floaty trousers and vest tops
Black leggings to wear with floaty cool tops
Cool shortie pjs
Underwear
2-3 beach dresses
2 playsuits/pretty dresses to wear at night

Karcheer · 29/05/2018 18:19

We are going at the end of June. I think mostly in the day we will hang around the pool, but I guess we may venture out once of twice. In the evening we will be going out for dinner.

I would agree with blossom and also those kimono style cover ups. So handy and even in the evening.. they can be dressed up.
Also beach bag.
Pattern light trousers

Jaimx86 · 29/05/2018 18:22

What areas and what will you be doing?
We're going to Mykonos and Syros in July. For Mykonos I will be buying lots of dresses for the evening, and taking a few pairs of black denim shorts for the day to wear with vest/bandeau tops. We like to get a quad or cycle so I need shorts rather than skirts.

The nightlife in Syros looks a lot more relaxed and so my Mykonos dresses will look out of place. I'll get some nice tops to wear with shorts, and midi-length dresses.

EdWinchester · 29/05/2018 18:25

I am the queen of packing light.

I take 3 pairs of shorts, several vests and tshirts. About 3 little dresses and a couple of wafty long ones. Running gear, trainers, 2 pairs of sandals.

2 kaftan top for over bikinis and 5 bikinis and one hat.

Iamblossom · 29/05/2018 18:25

Sunglasses
Sunhat
I always take a small bag to take out in evening too

Laska5772 · 29/05/2018 18:26

We are lucky enough to go to Greece for a few weeks every summer .. I have these dresses ( I have several more of this style also from previous years collections ) Best.thing.ever.for hot holidays ( and they pack up really small and wash and dry easily).
and Accessorize woven flip flops , I take 2 pairs and wear them both to death ( and usually dump them on the way home) .

2gorgeousboys · 29/05/2018 18:32

We went to Skiathos for 2 weeks last summer and I took;
4 bikinis,
5 pairs of shorts
3 or 4 vest tops
2 or 3 smarter tops
3 beach dresses
1 beach cover up
1 kimono type top
3 dressier dresses for evening
3 pairs of sandals
Straw bag
Clutch bag

We'd not had a beach holiday for a few years so I was more or less starting from scratch too. I chose a colour scheme and bought things that went together.

I tended to wear shorts or beach dress over bikini for the pool or beach, some evenings wore a dressier dress and some evenings denim shorts with a dressier top or vest top and kimono.

I had washed things and they dried the same day.

Hope that helps? Have a fab holiday! This year we are camping in Cornwall and then skiing at Christmas so it's a completely different wardrobe all over again!

Doobigetta · 29/05/2018 18:41

Bikinis and beach dresses for the daytime. A few proper summer day dresses for sightseeing. Depends on where you're going for the evenings but it might be a bit cooler in June so I'd consider taking jeans and tops for evening rather than dresses. Maybe a mix of both just in case. Flip flops for the beach, comfy flat sandals for sightseeing and wedge sandals for evenings.

Laska5772 · 29/05/2018 18:49

I only take 2 bikinis for 3 weeks .! also only 5 pairs of knickers .. wash and dry..!
We are also jgoing end of June (we may be on the same plane out!) I have known it to be extraordinarily hot then, far too hot for jeans .

Karcheer · 29/05/2018 19:06

We are going to Crete.
I’d imagine I’d take 4 bikinis.
I definitely won’t be doing any washing whilst I’m there, apart from washing out swimwear.

OP posts:
specialsubject · 29/05/2018 20:17

black denim shorts in greek heat??? wow. ditto black leggings.

three sets of swimwear is plenty, take in the shower with you at night, hang outside, dry next day. 3 evening outfits max. rash vest and boardies for swimming. a few t shirts. a pair of knickers per day.

Karcheer · 29/05/2018 20:21

What are rash vest and boardies?

OP posts:
specialsubject · 29/05/2018 21:00

rash vest is the adult version of a kids uv suit, stops you frying in the water. boardshorts are quick dry swim short s, much better than soggy knickers for swimming. choices of lengths available and also keep the sun off.

Liz38 · 29/05/2018 21:05

I only have one swimsuit! I love the idea of taking 5 bikinis on a holiday. But my beach wardrobe is jeans, wellies and a woolly pully. You're all much more glamorous than me and apparently better at hot weather too.

Atalune · 29/05/2018 21:05

5 Bikinis all mix and match
1 denim short, blue, one white
1 linen short black, one striped
1 beach cover up
1 hat
1 midi dresses
2 shorter dresses
1 midi skirt
3 vest tops
1 jumper
2 silky blouses

Iamblossom · 29/05/2018 21:50

special black cotton leggings for evening - I have worn these in 40 degrees in Spain Greece and Marrakech with sandals and a floaty top and felt cool.

Strongbeatsskinny · 29/05/2018 22:45

I’d take what lambbloosom, gorgeousboys and atulune has suggested. Looks like what I take for a ten day holiday to a hot country. Have a fantastic time.

princessbear80 · 29/05/2018 22:47

Following for ideas! I’m going away for a hot summer holiday for the first time in four years, also first time as a Mum. I know I’ll leave my heels behind, and pack a slightly smarter pair of flat sandals for evenings out. I’ve bought this dress from next, which I’ve already worn in hot weather here and love it: www.next.co.uk/g76116s1. Trying to stick to denim/white/navy so I can mix and match.

@specialsubject - are board shorts designed to wear with nothing underneath or on top of bikinibottoms? Tempted to get boardies and rash vest as I know I’ll be jumping in and out of the pool a lot with my energetic DS and nephews, and don’t want to be constantly readjusting bikini. Thanks

DaizyMaybe · 29/05/2018 23:01

Watching with interest but I'm only going for a week.

Have ordered that dress princessbear80 I normally do maxis and have these in pink and navy - love them.

I was diagnosed a few years back as an HoC Autumn so I’d like to keep within those colours, so I’m thinking orange, brown and off white.

Although I’d love a maxi I’m only short, so they’d swamp me, unless I could find a petite one.

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 30/05/2018 11:18

these linen blend dresses from Next come in lots of different colours & petite fit & the fabric is ideal for Greece.

I'd take more cotton tshirts than some have suggested.

beenandgoneandbackagain · 30/05/2018 11:26

For 2 weeks I will be taking

3 bikinis
3 shorts
5 vests
1 shirt/cover up
1 beach cover up which doubles as top
2 lightweight dresses for evening
1 pair stout walking shoes (worn on plane to save space)
1 lightweight coat (worn on plane to save space)
5 knickers
2 bras
2 socks

A few years ago, when I went on holiday I did my usual packing and then put everything I hadn't worn to one side. I realised that I had worn very few clothes and over-packed, made a list of what I had actually worn (shorts/vests/dress) and now just stick to that list. We always go self-catering so have access to a washing machine.
