I don't understand, why is Boden so expensive?

£90 for a pair of fugly sandals! Their clothes aren't high end or top quality so why are they so bloody expensive?!

Well, they have frequent 20% and 25% off offers, so I don't see the 'up front price' as the real price that most people would pay.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/05/2018 21:35

Demographics? Client base or something.

Their shoes are too narrow for my trotters but I've got Boden cotton dresses that are years old and still beautiful.

Not bought any recently as see above!

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/05/2018 21:36

yy never paid full price. And the lined boy cargo pants are indestructible.

MikeWyzowski · 26/05/2018 21:37

I have fourth-hand children's clothes from Boden that are still like new. I've only ever bought their children's clothes but, in my experience, they are amongst the best.

Ohyesiam · 26/05/2018 21:38

The kids clothes last and wash well, so if you have 3 of the same sex, it’s good value.
The colours are seldom sludgy, and even if you don’t do internet you can shop without going shopping.
Their stuff used to be better quality, so I think it’s living on that reputation too.

TheNumberfaker · 26/05/2018 21:38

It's a status brand. You want people to know that you've spent quite a lot on your clothes.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2018 21:39

I like Boden but I would never pay full price. I have no issues with the quality usually.

Their shoes are ridiculously expensive though.

bellanotte22 · 26/05/2018 21:40

The kids clothes last really well. Very handy if you have more than one boy or girl.

SoftSheen · 26/05/2018 21:41

No-one really pays full price. I never even consider buying anything until there is at least 15% off, and preferably when I have been sent a £10 voucher. Recently I bought a top which was listed as £60, but with a 20% discount code and a £10 voucher the price was actually £38- much more reasonable.

MelanieSmooter · 26/05/2018 21:43

A) I never pay full price
B) The quality really is excellent - I can pass Boden down through three boys and still have it in good enough condition to resell.
C) It holds its value. You can sell on when used and buy more.

I bloody love Boden.

QueenOfIce · 26/05/2018 21:45

How long before a code pops up? Are their jersey dresses any good?

OP posts:
EdWinchester · 26/05/2018 21:48

The quality is really good. I passed on Boden kids' clothes after being worn non-stop and they were always like new.

Nanasueathome · 26/05/2018 21:49

Boden have a ‘sale’ and reductions most weeks
Sign up to their website and then wait for the offers
Never ever pay full price
I have Boden clothes that I’ve had for ages and they still look good
The children’s clothes are fabulous. Good quality and can be passed on to others so lots of wear in them

FiloPasty · 26/05/2018 21:49

Yes washes really well and the resale value is great.

VivaKondo · 26/05/2018 21:51

Because that’s one of the very few brands that actually fit me.
Their style is what I like
The quality is good - I have a few tops for example that are a few years old now, still in good condition when most other brands are death after a season (summer/winter).
And yes I rarely buy the stuff when it’s full price.

ilovecherries · 26/05/2018 21:53

The other thing I think they've nailed is customer service. Prompt delivery, easy returns, prompt refunds and if I've ever had a problem it has always been dealt with to my satisfaction. The chummy emails make me grind my teeth a bit, and I don't care for their fun and jolly prints but what I do buy is usually good quality.

BlueAnchor · 26/05/2018 21:54

eBay, always check; lots of new clothes straight from ( I assume) the factory. Great prices.
I do find Boden ( fitted) dresses so hard to get on and especially off.

shins · 26/05/2018 21:54

They aren't good quality in my experience, and haven't been for years. Viscose and polyester dresses, ugh.

CopONNotLinkedIn · 26/05/2018 21:55

I don't think they've nailed customer service. Once they had this deal where if you recommended them to your friends you got a discount. I recommended them to the requisite six friends, or gave Boden the email addresses of six friends (this probably wouldn't be allowed now!) and then they wouldn't honour it because I am in Ireland I think! But they never mentioned that in the blurb! I've bought the odd thing from them but it wouldn't be one of my go to sites.

CopONNotLinkedIn · 26/05/2018 21:57

my kids' clothes always got so stained that even if they held together, it wasn't worth passing them on to anybody!

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 26/05/2018 22:00

boden is not sexy, it's frumpy clothes suitable for little girls..... made in adult sizes. its not aspirational, surburban, and should only be worn in doors. NO WAY

theredjellybean · 26/05/2018 22:01

I think the quality is good.
I have clothes from years back and recently that all wash well, colours stay true etc
Kids clothes were fantastic, been through both my dds and then passed on.
I also like the fact the pre teen stuff is not sexualised, no inappropriate slogans etc just nice practical but pretty age appropriate clothing, ditto the teen range.
The shoes are same price or cheaper than similar brands like hobbs or lk Bennett and often creative patterns or designs.
I think overall stuff I have bought has been good value

theredjellybean · 26/05/2018 22:03

And I guess it depends what you find sexy... I have several amazing wrap dresses from few yrs ago that are most definitely sexy...

Rudi44 · 26/05/2018 22:04

Their sales are great and back when DD fitted into the kids clothes I loved them because the girls stuff was bright and fun and not pastel pink, plus very hard wearing.

pictish · 26/05/2018 22:04

I think the quality is there as the fabrics are good.
