Are these 'old lady' sandals?

Been wanting some flat metallic sandals for ages, but I haven't been able to find any which (a) are my size (9E), & (b) fit without digging into my toes/ankles. I need them to cover up the front of my foot, so can't buy thin strappy ones and I can't wear heels, apart from low wedges.

In desperation I've got these from Gabor - they are really comfortable & I like the colour, but I suspect they might be old lady shoes - am I right?

I am a wide 9/43 and was well chuffed to discover that the biggest size Saltwater sandals fit.

Doingreat · 02/05/2018 21:26

They're not old lady at all OP!! They're lovely and a bit retro. Which is what all fashions are in one way or another

UsernameTaken2 · 02/05/2018 21:35

Sorry but I'm really not a fan. Would something like this be any good?
£25 from next and they have them in loads of colours

I like them, but they are quite 90's and I may have questionable taste!

GreyGauntlet · 02/05/2018 22:33

They are not old lady sandals but they are really unfashionable I am sorry to say!

PingPongBat · 02/05/2018 23:16

thanks for all the comments. A reasonably even split, slightly more think old lady (or just yuk) than not... for clarity, I'm 52 (I think) so I'm more of an old lady than you Macavity! Thanks for the nice comment about my jeans Chippy.

I'm not a big fan of Saltwaters (which also seem to split MNers opinions) but if they fit a wide 9 then I may have to try a pair. I'm definitely a 43 not a 42 so quite a few of the size 9s I see online are too small. Do Ecco 42s come up large?

Gabor are a bit old fashioned. Or for older ladies.

BigFatBloomers · 03/05/2018 00:22

Menorcan sandals up to a size 10.5 here plus free delivery and returns.

I haven’t tried this company, but I have tried a couple of others and always find them very comfortable.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/05/2018 00:28

I'm not keen OP. How about a metallic Birkinstock? It's another one that tears MN down the middle but I quite like them Grin

Ummmmgogo · 03/05/2018 00:36

they are nice but they don't go with the jeans. they will look nice with hotpants, or any length skirt.

Frankiewears · 03/05/2018 01:05

Fly London has loads of styles that fit your criteria like these....

I think they look quirky and you've styled them well with turn ups. I like them. There are a lot of those style sandals out there at the mo. Wear them!

Alpineflowers · 03/05/2018 08:09

The uppers don't look too bad but what is the heel and sole like?

A proper shoe or sandal I think should have a solid heel and sole. (I can't stand them if they are spongy, but that's just me)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/05/2018 08:10

They look fine to me, not old fashioned at all, comfort is everything. 😄

notgivinga · 03/05/2018 08:25

No I don't like them and wouldn't wear them and I'm old 57 but as I always say I don't have to wear them Smileif they are comfy and you like them wear them

SooChef · 03/05/2018 09:19

Can we stop using "old lady" as a derogatory phrase? Just ask if people like them or not.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 03/05/2018 09:39

I'm not keen but then I despise all sandals. Years ago I bought Birkenstocks purely because everyone on MN seemed to love them, and they ripped my toes to shreds.

I think they fit your criteria and you have cute feet, with nice nails, so you're fine by me! Grin

OdileDeCaray · 03/05/2018 11:31

They are horrible but if you like them it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

OdileDeCaray · 03/05/2018 11:34

I wouldn't wear these myself but they are better than the ones you are wearing!
