Anyone else HATE summer dressing?

When the weather turns warmer I always feel like I totally loose my stride outfit wise. I think the crux of the problem is that I have GIANT thighs so shorts just look absolutely hideous on me - I have tried a million pairs and never found any that I am 100% happy with.

So all those pair shaped ladies out there - what are your summer staples?

I'm good with a dress but skirts / dresses just aren't always practical.

Can't help, sorry, but I also have a problem with summer as in what to put on my FEET!

I am only really comfortable in boots. My feet tend to be cold unless I'm actually in a hot country and shoes that are not laced up fall off my long narrow feet (and anyway I hate the boatlike look of them in my size).
I want summer boots! Any ideas?

trigger2 · 27/04/2018 19:10

Ooh yes I dislike the summer dressing also, much happier in layers and long trousers

CountFosco · 27/04/2018 19:17

Maybe you should move north. Today I wore jeans and a cashmere jumper Grin

CherryBlossomSeason · 27/04/2018 19:33

Yes absolutely. With current body I can't make my wardrobe work

IJustLostTheGame · 28/04/2018 08:46

I have large norks. In the summer I look fat and dowdy.
I am neither.
Damned floaty shapeless clothing.

Babdoc · 28/04/2018 08:49

I live in Scotland. What is “summer”?!

IJustLostTheGame · 28/04/2018 09:12

It's when all the midges come out babdoc

Babdoc · 28/04/2018 09:13

Oh, yeah, Ijustlost- you mean the few months when the rain gets slightly warmer, too?!

JellySlice · 28/04/2018 09:24

Thighs. Chub-rub. Lovely, floaty, cool dresses? Ha. Ha. Ha.

missmouse101 · 28/04/2018 09:28

4ft 11, size 18-20, large saggy bust, calves and ankles like upside down milk bottles.....it is a total and utter nightmare. I nearly cried just typing this, reminding me of the horror.

IPokeBadgers · 28/04/2018 17:38

Count me in....5'4, size 20....big tits and tummy. ...I look shit in summer. Thankfully northern Ireland doesn't get a lot of heat, and only my husband sees me in summer clothes when we go abroad.

CowesTwo · 28/04/2018 18:56

Even when I was slim I hated summer dressing. I much prefer autumn and winter clothing. Now that I'm a big barrel of lard, summer dressing is even worse.

TheClitterati · 28/04/2018 19:55

Size 18-20. In sUmmer I live in wrap dresses, a line skirts and T shirts. And a few other dresses. For cooler days I have a couple of blouses I wear with jeans.

I use Udderly Smooth Chamois cream on my thighs which revolutionised my summer wardrobe. No more chafing!! Put it on once and I can walk all day in comfort.

TheClitterati · 28/04/2018 19:57

Oops wrong thread 😀😀

I like summer dressing now (without chafing) better than I used to.

TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 28/04/2018 19:59

Urgh, yes. So white I'm almost blue and no ability to tan. Unlovely skin and huge tits. I HATE summer. I just wear jeans and a long sleeve top every day and sweat it out.

inthekitchensink · 28/04/2018 20:15

Huge boobs, blue skin, saggy arms & tum, nice legs and horrible hooves here. In the summer I whimper for autumn but my pear shape survives in wide legged silky casual trousers & fitted sleeveless tops, maxi skirts & tees, harem pants, a-line skirts and cocoon shaped knee length dresses. No shorts, cami tops, shirts/blouses or god forbid bandeau tops. Thick wide straps, no peasant/floaty/boho/drop waist or pleats. Jumpsuits are a saviour if you don’t have to pee all the time. It’s hard

Spartacunt · 28/04/2018 20:18

I'm pair shaped too - you could get a pair of people into my body shape. Grin

Summer is hideous. I was so happy today when I could put my tights on again

Ski40 · 28/04/2018 20:31

I hate summer. I'm ghostly white, burn in under 20 minutes in the garden and I can't hide my (cough) post baby flab Grin under my beloved fluffy jumpers. Ugh. I just feel hideous in general in the summer.
Roll on autumn again...

I also hate how at the first signs of warmish weather everyone sees it ok to come out everywhere in sandals and flip flops. With very unloved, cracked, hideous feet in them. For the world to see. I hate feet in general but aaargh, if you must show them, please please TRY to make them pretty. At least hidrate them...
I spotted someone the other day doing the school run in flip flops... in the pouring rain, dirty muddy toes squelching at every step.
I came back home feeling a little queasy... 🤢

RavenLG · 28/04/2018 20:42

Can't help, sorry, but I also have a problem with summer as in what to put on my FEET! I am only really comfortable in boots.
Me too!! Only for comfort reasons not cold feet as you said. I find all summer shoes utterly painful to wear. I have just invested in a pair of skechers that look like ballet pumps which are ok but make my feet sweat to buggery and have started to smell after 3 wears!

I hate summer. I'm short and fat. I sweat like a pig from my forehead and neck / all my head. I walk for a minute and I'm too hot and out of breath. I hate my arms being out so always have to have a cardi on. I'm glad it's raining / I'm already looking forward to November!

DairyisClosed · 28/04/2018 20:44

I wear dresses all summer long. Long linen ones mostly. Since discovering long linen dresses I love summer.

Katescurios · 28/04/2018 20:49

As a have some linen cropped trousers, just below knee length and quite wise legged so really comfy in heat.

For work i wear Dorothy Perkins jersey midi dresses all summer, comfy and smart enough for work while being easy to wear, practical and stop me over heating.

Katescurios · 28/04/2018 20:51

Oh and for shoes i have to wear those silly little sick things that just cover goes and heels, otherwise my feet sweat and my shoes stink. Sketches ballerina style and comfy and supportive but without the socklets they stink and sweat.

Thebirthdayparty · 28/04/2018 21:22

I like the ‘idea’ of summer but have blue white skin that sizzles in less than fifteen minutes.

I often stick to jeans but there comes a point where jeans look ridiculous in warm weather and are uncomfortable to wear.

Long skirts are my savior. I’m short 5ft 2 and read everywhere not to wear long skirts but I love them.

Shoes though.......are a huge problem. What do people wear if not converse???

TheClitterati · 28/04/2018 23:49

I mostly were sandals all through summer:
Fit Flops
Wolkys
Birkenstock

plipplip · 29/04/2018 08:10

I think for most of the British summer we can absolutely get away with jeans / long trousers and a t shirt. I've bought some just above the ankle length trousers from gap which I wear with loafers and a bare ankle. Very summery Wink

Having said that I just found a brilliant flattering mid length denim skirt at hush which I plan to wear very hot day we get.

I think the key is getting some comfy cotton well fitting t shirts.
