This for a wedding?

I think I might be way off the mark here, but I’m a very unfortunate shape at the moment, so really stuck for something to wear. I’m a tall, size 16 apple, (though currently trying to lose some weight - have lost a few pounds and need to lose a few more before I’m a healthy bmi. Ideally, I’d like to lose more, but I’ll take healthy bmi to start with). Anyway, I had my second dc by cs 3 months ago, so my already big tummy is even bigger Sad.

I saw this:

...on the mn ‘swears by’ and thought it might be ok. I am breastfeeding and this looks like it won’t let me bf, BUT, I will have a room in the venue where I can slope off to feed. Also, I pump more than I feed at the moment (it’s a long story), so can feed the baby a bottle of bm and also go and pump at the venue.

The other thing is that the bridesmaids are wearing navy... hmmm it’s seeming less and less likely that this is the one isn’t it? The wedding isn’t for a couple of months, so maybe I could wait and see if this comes out in another colour by then.

I don't like it. I'm your size/shape but a short arse and this type of dress just makes me look fatter/pregnant.

Given you're bf too I'd have thought a wrap dress or wrap top with skirt or wide leg trousers would work better.

Wrap style gives us apples a waist (well the illusion of)

Hi

Tbh I don’t much like it for a wedding. Is it a family or friend wedding?

I’ve seen some lovely navy outfits/dresses that would suit a wedding. Have you looked on the JL website. They have a great selection.

Plus the dress you posted would be too big for you as it starts at an 18 and you’re a 16.

Hope this helps.

peachypetite · 23/04/2018 08:41

It would be okay for a BBQ but don't think it's suitable for a wedding OP. Try a couple of department stores?

What is your budget if you dont mind me asking?

Or in this colour? Precious link shows navy colourway I meant to link to the green.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 08:41

Thanks both.

I didn’t realise it started at 18. I prefer plus size clothes as they tend to provide a bit more coverage and are more flattering. Most start at 14 or 16.

Hmmmm ok, not this then.

It’s a family (or in-laws) wedding but I want to avoid all navy really, as don’t want to look like a wannabe bridesmaid Grin!

My dd is a bridesmaid / flower girl, so I know they’ll be in navy.

I’ve tried a flared skirt and wrap top, which I ordered online and the skirt just made me look huge. Would wide trousers not have a similar effect, as my skinniest bit is my legs? I thought the skirt would balance me out but it managed to just make me look bigger all over.

Having looked at it on the regular model (as at size 16 that is the range you would need to buy it from) rather than the plus size model i think it is a nice enough dress but would be very short on you of you are tall. There are better dresses i believe.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 08:42

Oh x posts. I’ll have a look at those links now. Thank you.

Budget could go up to about £250 for the whole outfit. Though I’m a bit thrifty and partial to a bargain!

A straight skirt and wrap top would work, trousers tend to be wider at the ankle so give the impression of narrowness at the waist again.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 08:45

Yep, it does look short actually. I was wearing something similar yesterday over leggings and my mil said the shape suited me, which is why I thought it might work. But I definitely can’t wear leggings to a wedding.

I like the wrap dresses, but ideally would like some sort of sleeves.

Maybe some trousers then and a wrap top?

No not too casual they're gorgeous.

Graphista · 23/04/2018 08:57

Not keen on 2nd pair bit too "jeans-y" ?

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 08:57

I really like the Quiz one and the Oasis one too. They don’t look too tummy clinging either do they? Like the split might draw attention away from my tum?

I recently bought some flared culottes type trousers from Zara (longer than culottes, ankle length on me). They skim the legs then start to flair out at the knee. They look fab or so I’m told.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 08:59

Oh good, glad the terracotta ones look ok to someone other than me! I might order.

I do think the quiz one is very pretty and very well shaped. At least you have height I'm just dumpy Grin
