My god daughter holy communion is coming up, would this dress be suitable?

What shoes?

Can't get the link to work

Shock really? I've never been to a holy communion service but that dress is altogether way too revealing for a church IMO.

VladPutin · 22/04/2018 18:27

No. Too short etc. Think more workwear.

VladPutin · 22/04/2018 18:27

Workwear pr day wear rather than night out

holycityzoo · 22/04/2018 18:28

Sorry but no way.
It's too revealing and too short. I wore a knee length fitted dress for my daughters and most others wore similar. Some wore top and trousers or skirts and tops but it needs to be more modest.
It's a lovely dress but not for this event.

JustaLittlePrick · 22/04/2018 18:28

Er, nope.

Herja · 22/04/2018 18:29

Err. No. Absolutely not.

It's holy communion. Your shoulders need to be covered and preferably your knees too. If not covered, then with your hemline at least approaching knees.

Abetes · 22/04/2018 18:30

You need to have covered shoulders. That dress is completely inappropriate.

ised · 22/04/2018 18:31

I was thinking it would prob be longer in real life.

Did wonder about shoulders but someone told me it was only for weddings in Catholic Church Hmm

Shoes that go up to your chin if you're wearing that. Grin

Massively unsuitable for holy communion! Think work wear / going out for a family meal.

JoyceDivision · 22/04/2018 18:33

Covered shoulders for church attendance.

VladPutin · 22/04/2018 18:35

It’s rarely warm enough for that anyway. And churches are cold.

LavenderDoll · 22/04/2018 18:35

Not suitable at all

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/04/2018 18:45

I've seen this in Oasis, it's much nicer in real life. If you're short, it should sit just above the knee.
You could wear a pashmina in church, and nude tights and black sandals/wedges.

If it's very short, opaques and black shoes/ankle boots.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/04/2018 18:47

green fitzwilliam
This is perfect though. :)

VladPutin · 22/04/2018 18:48

Black shoes and nude tights ? 🤮

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/04/2018 21:24

Wedges or sandals, yes, or nude. Or bare legs if they are browner than mine. :)

ChablisLover · 23/04/2018 08:06

Have to say this wouldn't look out of place for holy communion round me.

But agree it's too short and too revealing. Something more knee length and sleeves

NeverTalksToStrangers · 23/04/2018 08:14

I'm irish catholic and the covered shoulders thing is bollocks over here. I know it applies to brides getting married in Rome though. Is it the same for England?

But yes, it's too skimpy to wear anywhere other than a beach resort/club.

oohyoudevilyou · 23/04/2018 08:16

No. Too much flesh for a catholic church ( might get away with it in one of those happy-clappy community evangelical places, though)

NeverTalksToStrangers · 23/04/2018 08:17

We also uncover our knees, wear jeans to mass (not that I go often) and black to weddings. Shock

Dailymailisshite · 23/04/2018 08:18

As a Catholic ,who has attended many first communions, in my opinion anything goes these days. I have seen many outfits more suited to Race day than a sacred place but nobody even blinks an eye. Black bra under a see through yellow halter top? Why not? Tiny shorts showing bum cheeks - most definitely. Full skirt with a split up to the waistband with a thong underneath? Of course !
If it looks good on you and you are comfortable wearing it just go for it. It will not by a long chalk be deemed outrageous.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 23/04/2018 08:35

I'm with dailymailisshite.
When i said it was skimpy looking I meant I wouldn't wear it as it's a bit young looking, short and probably unforgiving.

But if you're slim/shorter than the model/ young it would look fine.
