any one have a Protected Species jacket (esp in white)?

I was looking for a smarter jacket that was still waterproof, and was recommended the ones from Protected Species. They're hugely expensive, so I will have to wait for a sale I think! They do look nice, though, but the only colours that really appeal to me of the one I liked (the shorter one) are either the black or the white. And I have mostly black coats already for other seasons.

But I've had white coats/gilets before, and some of them seem a magnet for dirt, and some of them are utterly fine! And I don't know how to tell beforehand- must be something to do with the type of fabric. The gilet I have now always gets a filthy looking neck from any makeup or anything on my jaw, it gets a mark from the leather from bags worn on my shoulders or across the front, it picks up seat belt marks, the under arms get black looking from dark clothes underneath, it gets newspaper ink transfer if I carry one, etc. Way worse than previous white coats/gilets.

So I'm wary about another one - but yet when they don't get dirty so easily, it's a really nice light colour for a jacket.

I'm also not sure that the short one is long enough, but the long ones seem too long for me (I'm quite short - but I do often wear tunic type tops to hide my shape a bit, and those then stick out of the bottom of jackets, which I am not keen on). I can't really tell if this one is long enough for that or not.

Does anyone have any of their jackets - are they really worth the price? I hope they do have sales at some point!
Does anyone have the white version of any of them, and can tell me how easily it gets dirty with just normal every day wear? (I know you can wash them, but not every few days!). thanks.

There is a 20% off code usually if you look online.

I have a long grey commuter and I want the new navy short one they have opened the list for.

Brilliant, totally waterproof and damn stylish. I am very pear shaped, the parka did not fit me on the hips would be my only comment Smile

boxoftoads · 21/04/2018 00:34

EGG20 is the code I spotted earlier

PickleFish · 21/04/2018 07:04

oh thank you, glad to know they are nice. Worried about the hips though - I was looking at the short one.

Didn't know about lists, though! I assumed they were just generally available.

Thanks for the code, that would help somewhat.

I still like the look of white, but am doubtful of staying clean...

The high neck on the white short one would catch any foundation on my jaw line.

BrassicaBabe · 21/04/2018 07:44

I've got the Mac in red bloody love it

Redact · 21/04/2018 08:05

I have the Mac in grey and love it, mostly wear it for work but also for leisure when I need a waterproof. I am also considering a short one for summer as they're so lightweight and easy to roll up and carry to use if it starts to rain or get chilly. The rain really does run straight off them.

DazzlingMilton · 21/04/2018 08:05

This is why I love MN, I have just found my perfect coat. Thanks op!

PickleFish · 21/04/2018 09:05
Smile

I'm still being a bit indecisive, but reassured by all these positive reports. It's the jaw/collar issue that bothers me, some light fabrics pick it up easily and others don't. Or dye transfer from straps and seat belts.

Wish I could try on to see if the length is enough for tunic tops with the short one, but it seems to be online only. Guess I can try and return. I'm now getting codes on my FB ads too because I've looked at the site enough but not bought!

I have a blue Mac I bloody love it

I purchased it in September. It’s been worn a lot, traveling to London on the tube and wotnot. I haven’t had to wash it yet as it seems to deflect dirt. The fabric is very unusual - soft and smooth - the rains runs off it and I also think it doesn’t absorb dirt, iyswim?

PickleFish · 21/04/2018 13:26

I do know what you mean, and that's what I was hoping it would be like. I think my first gilet must have been like that, as it barely got dirty, unlike my latest one, which seems to pick up every bit of dye or makeup or anything. Sounds like this might be one of the better ones then!!

I have the black parka which I wear mainly for dog walking. It frequently gets muddy with my dog (and other dogs) jumping up on me with muddy paws. I just wipe it with a damp cloth and it cleans straight off. I have had it two years, wear it most days and it looks brand new. I get compliments about it all the time.

I also wear make up every day and haven't had an issue.

PickleFish · 21/04/2018 20:57

Great, think I might give them a try then, soon as I can afford it!

@AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth that's great news! I've been terrified of getting my red mac dirty. It looks like grease in particular would be a bitch to remove. (Still got young kids with grubby fingers). I keep meaning to contact PS for cleaning instructions.

Scabetty · 21/04/2018 22:12

Omg they are tempting Shock I have just realised I need a short one or my life will be an empty wilderness.

lal17 · 21/04/2018 22:22

I have the short one in white - had it for about 2 years. I totally love it. The cut is great. Such a clever design - the sleeves curve down over your hands, it’s super light but so weatherproof it’s a great thing to have on a windy day. I wear it pretty much all year round. Never had a problem with make up or dirt on collar (and I do wear make up). Am often asked where I got it from. And it does wash really well and dries quickly - we live in the middle of London so it gets a bit grubby after a while. I probably wash it twice a year for normal wear but it’s so useful I take it camping too and it usually needs washing after that.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 21/04/2018 22:43

Thanks for posting OP - I've had an open order on the Protected Species website for about 2 weeks (dithering) and was able to get 20% off using the above code.

Cheers, @boxoftoads - my new jacket should arrive in 2 days! Star

boxoftoads · 21/04/2018 23:43

I'm thinking of charging PS commission 🤣

I've had so many compliments, it got a bashing on a recent trip to London but it still looks brand new.

I was wondering if I could wash it with Nikwax or something similar

BrassicaBabe · 21/04/2018 23:51

Find myself wondering if I need a second in shorter style....

Scabetty · 21/04/2018 23:57

I think you doWink

PickleFish · 22/04/2018 07:35

Glad this thread has been useful for others!

Good to know that other people have a white one too, and I'm not totally insane for considering white clothing to wear outdoors, which does sound a bit mad, but it's my favourite one. Maybe it's my handbag and my seatbelt that I need to change :)

Do you find the short one comes down far enough to cover long tops? I'm only about 5'5", and I would get either the largest or second large size, which might make it a few cm longer than in the picture. But unless I get a long coat (which never fits on my hips), then tops always stick out the bottom like a frill!! Maybe the largest size would be best then. I'm a 16 in general. The sizing seems a little different depending on which model. Some of them have 14-16 and 18-20 as the two bigger sizes, but the City Walker (short one) seems to have 16-18 as the largest one, so I suppose that would be better. I might have to buy and return I guess.

I don't think I saw a navy short one? They were grey/red/white/black and a sort of green I think.

It really is beautiful in white. Good choice.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 22/04/2018 11:26

I'm thinking I need a white one now...

Redact · 22/04/2018 13:55

Is the white pure/bright white or a creamy ivory type white? Thank you!

Scabetty · 22/04/2018 18:55

One review describes the white as a warm cream.

boxoftoads · 22/04/2018 19:42

@PickleFish navy short ones are not out yet but on preorder.
