Starting in a wine bar "and then we can go somewhere else if we fancy it"....

Everyone will be in workwear. He's coming straight from work.

Whhhaaaattttttt do I wear? Help!

I am early 40s, usually wear Boden dresses, opaques, jacket, jewellery, a bit artsy... He wears casual (but not jeans)....

OP posts:
VladPutin · 13/04/2018 15:13

not a boden dress.

littlepill · 13/04/2018 15:17

I did think that - but whhaaaatttt?

Although I have non-patterned, plain Boden dresses, which are stylish (I think!).

I look stupid in jeans. Am size 8-10, 5'6'' short legs, athletic but with hips.

PLain dress with ankle boots of a cool nature?

Ohyesiam · 13/04/2018 15:20

Denim dress with boots?

littlepill · 13/04/2018 15:21

Jacket? Or cardigan?
Wahhhh. I am so stuck.

I have this dress from Oliver Bonas:

Too dressy? I know it's not plain...

Oliver Bonas dress here

Ohyesiam I have this denim dress, but I think it's a bit too mumsy. Looks a bit baggy on me, too:

freya one is TOO Plain

go have a blow dry then no one cares

VladPutin · 13/04/2018 15:25

i like the OB one
But you must have heels

JesusTapdancingChrist · 13/04/2018 15:26

Don't wear that denim dress OP. Or any denim dress tbh.

The Oliver Bonas dress is nice especially if your style is artsy/bohemian. A dark red/berry lippy would look great with it. What boots/shoes/tights are you thinking?

Lobsterquadrille2 · 13/04/2018 15:30

The Oliver Bonas dress is perfect for what you describe - slightly workish, especially as so many do casual Fridays, dressed up but not too dressed up. I'd wear hair up, hoops and heels.

littlepill · 13/04/2018 15:36

Or I have a plain, black, v-neck t-shirt which I could wear with a black and gold patterned pencil skirt?

Decisions decisions...

OP posts:
JesusTapdancingChrist · 13/04/2018 15:40

Can you post a pic of the skirt?

littlepill · 13/04/2018 15:52

Will try to find a pic of skirt, Jesus

Veering towards OB dress with black opaques. I have black ankle boots, similar to hers, or snakeskin high heeled ankle boots from Clarks - maybe a bit too platformed?

Normally wear hair half-up with OB geometric slides... hoops, yes, and I love berry lipstick.

Argh not sure, though! It feels a bit too 'sexy' with the split back...

The boden denim dress is absolutely fine and comfortable and looks good. Great with tights and boots. Not mumsy at all.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/04/2018 15:57

Like the idea of the black tee and pencil skirt combo. The OB dress is gorgeous but quite dressy.

TroubledLichen · 13/04/2018 15:58

Love the OB dress, yes to that with black tights and ankle boots. You’ll look perfect if the place is popular with an after work crowd. Hope the date goes well!

JesusTapdancingChrist · 13/04/2018 15:59

First boots sound perfect 👍.

I think the back detail is lovely. The front of the dress is very demure so the back adds just the right amount of sexy imo.

Mind you, I wore skintight black jeans, an oversized vintage leopard print shirt with a black lace bralet under (and visible) on my last first date so my demure might well be other people's sexy 😂. We're now an item though so it worked Grin.

Where did you meet him? Are you excited?

littlepill · 13/04/2018 16:03

The other skirt is a bit like this, but less dressy and not scalloped - I sometimes wear it for work on a Friday:

similar skirt

Have either black velvet t-shirt or chiffon black blouse (might look too sexy!)

Thank you! Flowers Getting nervous!

Grin Jesus!

I wish I looked good in jeans, love the idea of black skinnies with a print blouse....

I met him online but I already knew him IRL must change distance to further than 10 miles This is date #3 and I said 'just as friends' as first, which he has respected. But mmm maybe some more would be nice, now.

I think he's the kind of guy to get scared off by too foxy, so might tone down the dress with the plainish ankle boots.

Oh god, what am I doing?!! Grin

OP posts:
littlepill · 13/04/2018 16:07

Thank you, Neveradullmoment... I am wondering if the dress is too dressy...maybe I could add a black cardigan? Mind you, I think the skirt is a bit dressy, too....

Argh!

Shall I just wear a black Boden dress?

I have three!

OP posts:
JesusTapdancingChrist · 13/04/2018 16:08

Skirt looks really lovely but definitely too dressy for Fri night drinks imo.

Go with the OB dress, opaques and the more casual boots! Hair in messy updo. Bit of lippy. You'll look great!

neveradullmoment99 · 13/04/2018 16:14

Love the skirt and the top combo. Nice, casual, pretty and sexy without being revealling.
Think the OB dress with a little black cardi would be fine too. Show the sexiness later when you have had a few.

littlepill · 13/04/2018 16:24

Or:

Boden Cressida Dress - scroll down to middle one!

Black double layer

Black double layer

not sure if those links will work.

Nervous? Moi? Whatever gives you that idea?!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/04/2018 16:29

OB one or black double layer one, with ankle boots. Lovely.

I'm going out tonight and am thinking of wearing a black prom dress thing, just because I bought it and now think it should get an outing. I'll be far too dressed up but I might do it anyway! Leather jacket and ankle boots should dress it down enough.
