Stylish plain trainers - are these ok!?

Looking for something fairly simple but comfy for everyday wear and also for a forthcoming city break in Paris (lots of walking!). Ideally I want something that will look 'cool' with cropped jeans and cropped black trousers etc ... Would love your opinions on these!

www.clarks.co.uk/c/Tri-Etch/p/26132529 and also these!

I just don't trust myself!!

The first pair look a bit weird in real life. Not seen the second. Neither will look particularly 'cool' but they will definitely be comfortable. Clarks 'tri' shoes are gloriously light and easy to wear. I think for a city break, either would be fine, and nobody will be looking at your feet.

Cousinit · 03/04/2018 09:03

I think the first pair look weird even in the picture. I like the second pair though.

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 03/04/2018 13:52

I like the second pair. The first look a bit like bowling shoes.

autumnkate · 03/04/2018 14:34

Have you tried a pair of Adidas Stan Smiths? They’re classic and very comfortable.

These Clark shoes are definitely not ‘cool’. Sorry.

Spottyyellowdress · 03/04/2018 14:37

ASOS have a pair of plain white low cut trainers which look like unbranded Stan smith types for £18.

Ellapaella · 03/04/2018 21:29

I have to agree with Autumn that neither of those are cool. Personally I really don't like either of them, there are so many other nicer and far more stylish trainers out there right now. There is a long thread currently running here on style and beauty about stylish trainers with loads of great suggestions.

Scabetty · 03/04/2018 22:06

Stan smiths.

BusterGonad · 03/04/2018 22:07

Personally for me I'd never buy an unbranded pair of trainers (or Sketchers), it's impossible imo to get cool trainers in Clarks! Just saying! 😂

Windowbasket · 03/04/2018 22:50

Hmm. But surely buying 'branded' trainers is just following the crowd? Perhaps I can make the Clarks trainers look cool Wink.

Op I love Clarks shoes. I have several pairs. But those trainers you have linked are frumpy in the extreme.

These are very comfy and have been much-admired. I toured all over China in them at Xmas.

RulaLenskasHair · 03/04/2018 23:42

Horatio those Adidas look like the answer to my prayers! Thanks Smile

PickAChew · 03/04/2018 23:45

The second pair look most comfortable with the cushioned cut out heel. Ignoring the odd looking style of the first pair, I suspect they'd slip around or fig in.

MayFayner · 03/04/2018 23:47

I have looked at both links and I can also recommend Stan Smiths.

ShadesOfHoratio · 03/04/2018 23:58

Rula you're welcome. Forgot to mention that they are really light too Smile

autumnkate · 04/04/2018 07:48

Op I don’t think shoes from clarks are exactly breaking away from the crowd!

Windowbasket · 04/04/2018 10:07

Hmm - thanks, everyone Smile - Horatio, those first Adidas ones are nearly the sort of thing. I basically want something that looks good with navy trousers, black trousers and jeans. I do love the Stan Smiths but kind of wanted something a little bit different - also was worried about the white not being very practical!

I’ve got some really nice creamslip on trainers from French connection.
Comfy and look good with jeans, shorts, dresses and smarter trousers
Sketchers are your comfiest bet though, visit a Sketchers store if possible they have loads of styles

IWouldLikeToKnow · 04/04/2018 16:46

I recently got these from Office. Really comfortable and I consider them reasonably stylish. They have cushioned soles. Currently on sale for £28. Failing that, I recommend Stan Smiths. Have a couple pairs also

I would go for a brand like New Balance or Nike. Super comfy trainers. I agree trainers are the way to go for a city break when you’ll be walking all day but walking boots are a bit much.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 04/04/2018 17:08

If you’re a particularly frumpy 80 year old, they might be what you’re looking for.

Just buy any of the low top shoes that are in all the shops these days. They will look way better.

Alibaba87 · 04/04/2018 17:12

You can’t go wrong with superga’s!

tigerrun · 04/04/2018 19:51

Just no! Also nearly £70!? Wow.

The most 'comfortable' trainers I own are the Nike Internationalist & they come in loads of colours - although I like the grey and white best. Might be worth a look.

RulaLenskasHair · 04/04/2018 21:44

Do Superga not just wreck your heels?

My feet are temperamental...
