Stylish plain trainers - are these ok!?

Looking for something fairly simple but comfy for everyday wear and also for a forthcoming city break in Paris (lots of walking!). Ideally I want something that will look 'cool' with cropped jeans and cropped black trousers etc ... Would love your opinions on these!

www.clarks.co.uk/c/Tri-Etch/p/26132529 and also these!

I just don't trust myself!!

You can get Stans in a lovely nudey pink colour that is more forgiving than white and looks great with navy, black or jeans. I love mine!

MozzchopsThirty · 04/04/2018 21:54

OP. Sorry but both are hideous.
My gran would wear them, she's 86

I have these in black and pink (also come in white and lilac) currently in the sale at Aldo so I've ordered some more.
They're funky looking (my 21 year old dd borrows mine) and super comfy, I originally bought them in nyc after my feet were bleeding from all the walking

Oh gosh how old are you OP? The Clarks ones are maybe for more mature ladies? Superga or Converse type in leather. White Stuff or Fat Face have nice pumps too.

worldslaziestmum · 04/04/2018 22:01

No, especially not for Paris.

Mrscog · 05/04/2018 07:27

@Iwouldliketoknow do those office trainers come up big or small for size? I’m seriously tempted!

IWouldLikeToKnow · 05/04/2018 07:33

@Mrscog I find them pretty true to size. I ordered in my usual size 6 and they fit well

Mrscog · 05/04/2018 07:47

Thank you!

MinisWin · 05/04/2018 07:54

Another vote for old school Vans lace ups - quite simply the comfiest thing you’ll ever put on your feet, from the word go. No breaking in required.

brogueish · 05/04/2018 07:57

Stan Smiths are not the most comfortable trainers, I find them very flat. Vans as already suggested are a better option, and more current too.

ToriRay · 05/04/2018 07:59

I live in Vans at the weekend! Look smart but feel like slippers!

Alibaba87 · 05/04/2018 11:41

Oooo I don’t know Rula, I’ve never had issues, though I have quite flat feet! Grin

Fianceechickie · 05/04/2018 12:43

I find vans too chunky. I wear the slimline version of converse as I've got narrow feet and they look dainty rather than chunky.

I love converse, but they ruin my feet if I do a lot of walking in them. I bet a good inner sole in any trainer would help though! I just find them a bit too flat.

SadieHH · 05/04/2018 13:00

God knows I’m no dedicated follower of fashion but both of those are more hideous than I imagined when I opened the link! I’d definitely go with the Stan Smiths or similar. Unless you especially want your feet to look like a pensioner on a trip to a garden centre Wink

puma suedes?

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 05/04/2018 14:29

Op I bought these last year and it seems to be a style still in stock on the Office online store.

Mine were grey though, but I loved them so much I went back and bought a flesh coloured pair. Think I might look at these this year too.

They are incredibly comfortable, light as air and I had soooo many compliments on them. Plus they aren't apparently obvious Nike's.

The only downside is that they are woven so not so waterproof or windproof.

Can't wait to start wearing them again though, they've taken a battering for a summer and still look great.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/04/2018 15:10

Here's what I take from your original choices: you wear quite conservative clothes in mostly dark colours and favour comfort over fashion.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

However, the choice of footwear only reinforces your take on your clothes. I saw a lot of Middle Aged women in Italy recently wearing very similar footwear around Milan, and they just looked like mum bots.

The beauty of a Stan Smith or a Superga or a Converse or a Gazelle or a Campus or some Vans is that they are a visual shorthand for "Don't worry everyone! I've got this!"

You're not saying that you are the trendiest person in town. But you are saying that you've still got a dog in the fight, sartorially speaking.

Cripes, you lot don't take any prisoners! LOL at some of the comments although I appreciate them and take your point, peeps! OK, here's the deal: I am fifty. But that's fine. Based on some of your comments though, I am now a teensy bit worried about the rest of my wardrobe Grin - I have just purchased these www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/moto-mid-blue-straight-leg-jeans-7357248 - although not sure I want to know your comments!! So - what about these shoes then - would these be ok or no Grin www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/6/2365266908

Love the jeans and love those trainers! Much better than the Clarkes! Those jeans and trainers will look lovely with a cotton tshit and blazer!

I like the black Cortez or the adidas. I've owned the Cortez before and the sole gets a bit grubby quickly. Adidas a bit more stylish imo

Windowbasket · 05/04/2018 15:47

Thanks, Tori - although have just noticed that the Adidas ones are a man made material so may be sweaty!! I do like the Cortez, maybe they'll be a goer. 13 year old dd mad about Adidas and may not want her aged parent sporting similar shoes!
