Body con dresses?

I've got a big night out coming up and I want to look good for once. Trying to step out of my comfort zone of jeans but all I'm seeing is bloody bodycon dresses!

I have 'shaping' pants at the ready, but can big boobs and a squashy, slightly portly (I do mean slightly) tummy. Will I be able to pull it off?

No, sorry, I think body con dresses should only be worn by the totally flat of stomach. I'm a size 10 with a small pot belly & I would never wear one! Get a frock that skims over your tummy instead.

Alison100199 · 29/03/2018 16:54

I would not, no. I'd go for smart skinnies and a flowing top.

LayerShortOfALasagne · 29/03/2018 16:59

Well I am a size 12 hourglass apple and I look bloody knockout in body con! If you feel good you’ll look good. Go for it!

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/03/2018 17:01

Honestly I'm an 8 and no way would I wear one, I'm 40 and have lumps and bumps.
They show everything.

Frouby · 29/03/2018 17:06

Try some on. I am apple shaped and had a couple of cheap ones I wore 1 summer as sundresses. Got loads of compliments.

It's surprising when you try new things on. We tell ourselves we can't wear certain styles but actually we can wear whatever we want. Try some on and take some photos and have a few days looking at them before you decide.

seven201 · 29/03/2018 17:09

It really depends on the type of apple you are. I have small boobs one and a big tummy - I would look 7 months pregnant in a bodycon dress.

I don't think there are only bodycon dresses on sale at the moment. A shirt dress or a wrap dress could be good?

Paintbox · 29/03/2018 17:10

Layer, what’s an hourglass apple? I thought the two contradicted each other?

CuriousMama · 29/03/2018 17:12

I think with suck me in pants you'll be ok.

I've worn bodycon and I'm blessed with a tum. Although It's going with exercise.

I agree with taking pics or get opinion of an honest friend.

LayerShortOfALasagne · 29/03/2018 17:14

Big boobs and a tummy but shapely? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😂

notheretoargue · 29/03/2018 17:20

I'm an apple and i tried one on last week and I looked dreadful! But I am a particularly flabby apple

foolserrand · 29/03/2018 17:21

Thanks all!

Will see how good the suck me in pants are. Doesn't sound hopeful though!

I'm so sick of going out in jeans. I've got amazing legs and want to show them off for once Blush

bitofabelly · 29/03/2018 17:28

Why don't you wear tunic type dresses or a-line that skim the bulgy bits and show off killer legs?!

AnaViaSalamanca · 29/03/2018 17:29

depends on fabric and the cut. if the dress is clingy, don't; but stronger and thicker fabrics might work, and also if the dress has structure around the shoulders might very well work

WrenNatsworthy · 29/03/2018 17:30

I do.

Theromanempire · 29/03/2018 17:32

paintbox I think I might be an hourglass apple too. From the front view I have broad shoulders and hips and have a definite indent at my waist. However from the side view my belly sticks out from just under my boobs Hmm I am a size 16 and tis very weird! However there is no way I would wear a bodycon dress - would look great from the front but hideous from the side.

Op- I would have to say no aswell. Try a wrap dress or a skater dress (Dorothy Perkins have some lovely ones)

Haircutdilemma · 29/03/2018 17:33

I did at a size 8 but by a size 12 I literally look pregnant in one. I carry all my weight on boobs and belly with skinny arms and legs.

Haircutdilemma · 29/03/2018 17:33

Like a PP I look great from the front. It's the side view that makes me look pregnant.

DarkRoomDarren · 29/03/2018 17:37

Oh I think you can get away with some of them actually. I am an Apple. I’m fat atm, but when I wasn’t I had a nice dress which looked like it was bodycon, but was lined and skimmed the tummy bit instead of clinging. Just try it on and be ruthless with yourself- no sucking in when you look in the mirror!

Don’t do what my friend did and go on a crash diet before a big night out, squeeze into a vair tight dress and then eat a big (or normal) meal. I kid you not, she bloated so much she looked 6 months pregnant and she was very slim at the time. Luckily she found it quite funny.

foolserrand · 29/03/2018 17:41

Thanks all!

No, no diets! I'm just not that kind of human.

Can confirm, the pants are amazing. Not sure I'm going to be able to get them off, but they definitely do what they promise. Grin

I'm only a 10, but am quite paranoid about my tum. I think a skater dress might be a better idea.

OP posts:
Mulberrysilk · 29/03/2018 17:45

I'm a small apple too. Skater dress is a good idea. You want to be able to sit!

MrsGloop · 29/03/2018 17:47

No such thing as an hourglass Apple, I’m
Afraid. By definition - apples are rounded in the middle, hourglasses have defined small waists. I wish I was hourglass!!

NigellasGuest · 29/03/2018 17:51

I'm a body con-wearing Apple! I think if its good quality thickish fabric with overlapping panel thingies around the waist are a it's fine

foolserrand · 29/03/2018 17:54

I'm now questioning my shape! I carry any and all excess weight on my stomach and chest, but I've got a very obvious waist.

This is why I usually stick to jeans! I'm crap with all this.

OP posts:
DarkRoomDarren · 29/03/2018 17:57

I’m the same @op. Even at my current chubby state, I have a definite, high waist, but also skinny legs, no bum, giant (bfing) norks and big tum. I’m an Apple from the side, but it’s less obvious from the front. I reckon Gok Wan would tell me I’m an Apple though.

RandomMess · 29/03/2018 18:00

I'm s slim apple and no waist, look awful in skater dresses!

I wear shift or slight A line short dresses and fool everyone into thinking I'm skinny...

Get hold of the Trinny & Susannah book and work out what shape you are from that - 10 shapes, you may be more of a Vase shape?
