Sketchers - old lady shoes? Trainers?

Neolara · 28/03/2018 13:11

I need some trainers to walk around in with jeans. Are sketchers old lady shoes? Bear in mind that I am -ancient- late 40s and what can look granny chic on a stylish 20 yo might just look granny on me.

Or if not sketchers, any particular kinds of trainers look better than others? Am rubbish at shopping.

Who cares if they are? They’re very comfortable btw, but not great if it rains.

BexleyRae · 28/03/2018 13:13

I wear sketchers with skinny jeans with turned up hems, I'm 38 but maybe not exactly considered stylish as I do like leggings with dresses

Knittedfairies · 28/03/2018 13:14

My Skechers Go Walks are more comfortable than my slippers, but not great in the rain.

Greymisty · 28/03/2018 13:17

I'm in the 25-30 bracket and wear sketchers. Some designs are a little bit frump depends what you pick.

Also converse are for any age group. And classic Vans (just high tops similar to converse).

Depends what you need out of a trainer sketchers have different soles and support whereas converse are a good basic everyday no fuss kind of footwear.

Outing myself here but I am in my seventies and would never ever wear trainers but I do have 2 [pairs of skechers 'go step lite' which are like normal slip ons and so comfortable. Not old lady shoes at all Hmm
I have bought them on ebay for half the price of these new

Sketchers. Just don't. If you wish to get trainers there are literally hundreds of different options out there. Don't have to be expensive at all. But Sketchers, for me, are seriously a big NO.

Knowivedonewrong · 28/03/2018 18:44

I live in my Sketchers. They certainly aren't grannyish.

buckleten · 28/03/2018 19:06

Love my Skechers (3pairs!), they are by far my most comfortable footwear, and there are loads of styles to choose from. I am mid 40's.

fruityb · 28/03/2018 19:09

I had five pairs of Skechers at one point - only one pair were Go Walks and they were the greatest trainers I ever owned.

I love Skechers - nothing wrong with them at all.

leccybill · 28/03/2018 19:09

Skechers Go Walks are incredible. They are comfier than my own actual feet.

Aragog · 28/03/2018 19:13

I struggle with many shoes. I have some Sketchers. I got them for a disney holiday and they were a revelation. Fashion wasn't the priority; reducing blisters was. And they helped a lot!
I have a pair for running too and some dander and pull on styles for holidays where we walk a lot.

I have another pair of trainers (Adidas) and other canvas pumps (converse, vans) and just ordered a pair of Ted Baker fashion trainers. Yes, they probably look nicer but they don't compare for comfort by a long shot! I can't wear any of the others for any length of time or walking.

Depends on your priority.

RapunzelIsHere · 28/03/2018 19:15

Sketchers are a big NO for me too. Just thinking about them gives me the shivers.

There are so many different options out there, converse, vans, Nike and Adidas trainers.

The Nike trainers with the thick sole are so comfy. I’m not sure what they’re called but you can get them in Sports Direct for around £30-40. Also, Nike Rose trainers are really comfy and stylish- they’re around £70.

Honestly, trainers suit any age. I can’t think of any trainers that would look silly on anyone.

RapunzelIsHere · 28/03/2018 19:16

Nike Roshe*

Try Sports Direct, Schuh and Office!

BrownTurkey · 28/03/2018 19:38

Dd (14) has had two pairs, they look great and are so comfy - I suggest spend enough to get good looking plus comfort.

Gran22 · 28/03/2018 19:48

I love my Skechers! I bought a pair last summer and I'm buying some more. They're the comfiest footwear I've had, and as a pensioner, I've had loads. They may not be elegant, but I don't care. 👍🏼

Tronkmanton · 28/03/2018 19:50

I used to love Skechers...however now my MIL and her MIL (87) wear them I can’t even look at mine Grin

DollyPartonsBeard · 28/03/2018 19:57

I'm 48 and I bought some Nike Air Max Sasha last week - they're super light, very cushioned, and the top bit is that meshy neoprene stuff so they fit like a glove. I've been wearing them nonstop with ankle grazer jeans and think they're pretty stylish. I've heard that the Skechers are comfy (mostly from my dad) bit I'm afraid for me they're not very stylish AND I see lots of people wearing Shoe Zone style knock-offs of them which puts me off further.

RenardeRenarde · 30/03/2018 14:30

I have some “Bobs by Sketchers” that are that old school trainer shape in suede which are awesome, but their other styles are a bit old hat. I don’t think they sell the Bobs type in the UK though.
Have you looked at New Balance? Insanely comfy and very in, with no negative “old lady” connotations.

Tantpoke · 30/03/2018 14:39

Some sketchers are hideous and I wouldnt be seen dead in them, however I have a pair of sketchers that just look like normal trainers and they are my go to comfy trainers when I'm doing a lot of walking and need trainers for the purpose they were designed for, bounce and comfort.

AiryFairy1 · 30/03/2018 18:07

See, I think these are quite nice

Having recently been on a trainer search to the end of the world and opted for ones from Dune that I’m not really IN love with - I bet these would be super comfy and they’re quite unusual which I like!

TERFragetteCity · 30/03/2018 18:13

See, I think these are quite nice

I see those and think Florida retiree on a golf trip.

HermioneWeasley · 30/03/2018 18:19

Last time i went to Orlando I’d say half the women I saw in the parks were wearing sketchers - you cannot beat them for comfort. Who cares after that?

JudasPriestley · 30/03/2018 18:26

'Negative old lady connotations?'

Can you people hear yourselves?

LoniceraJaponica · 30/03/2018 18:33

“My Skechers Go Walks are more comfortable than my slippers”

Yes they are. It is like walking on cushions.

“There are so many different options out there, converse, vans, Nike and Adidas trainers.”

There are so many more uncomfortable options out there - converse, vans, Nike and Adidas trainers.

Seriously, nothing else I have tried compares with Sketchers for foot comfort. On a Disney holiday or any type where you will be walking all day long you can forget about looking cool. All you will care about is not having sore feet. Converse may look more stylish, but they offer absolutely zero support. I couldn’t care less about looking stylish these days, but when I looked in the Sketchers shop the other day it looked like they are upping their game style-wise.

BestIsWest · 30/03/2018 18:41

I have several pairs of their lace up trainers. They are seriously comfortable. They are very plain too.
